Kratom Availability

Updated

DEA has suspended action to declare Kratom a schedule 1 drug. It will allow until 11/30 (I think) for comments from the public, doctors, etc. and then reconsider the matter. Until then, those who use, or want to use Kratom can legally buy it from a number of US websites at greatly reduced prices. Contact your legislators as well!

There are studies which show that kratom can help people kick opiates and I truly believe it should remain legal. What do you all think about that? https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3670991/

The US National Institute of Health actually posted a (rather vague) clinical study on Kratom depicting its efficacy towards alleviating opiate withdrawal:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3670991

They conclude their observations by stating that, "the predominant alkaloid of kratom, mitragynine, binds mu- and kappa-opioid receptors, but has additional receptor affinities that might augment its effectiveness at mitigating opioid withdrawal."

From what I understand, not much research in the US has taken place to augment the DEA's decision to effectively ban Kratom, which I believe is one major reason why they had to withdraw their initially haste 'misinformed' enforcement tactics. While other countries such as Canada embrace this alternative treatment option, my strong opinion is that Kratom would surely disrupt the profit margin of US pharmaceutical companies and that there is no other logical reason why they'd want to ban it; as no deaths have reportedly occurred by Kratom use (in and of itself - but only when combined with certain pharmaceuticals that weren't being taken as prescribed).

By contrast, millions die every year by pharmaceuticals of all types, so why are they not opting to ban their own medicine first and foremost? The truth is, these greedy companies and agencies put profit before ethics.

2017 Update: The American Kratom Association (AKA), released an 8-factor analysis news update yesterday January 18th, 2017 stating that the DEA has completely retracted their stance on banning Kratom. A full article can be found AKA's webpage; however, to sum things up, the title reads: 'Pinney Associates' Scientific Abuse Potential Assessment of Kratom Finds Evidence of Public Health Benefit and Little Harm.

This is quite the opposite of what the DEA proposed, misnomingly labeling Kratom as a serious public health threat.

I think the Pinney Associates Assessment of Kratom is a large scale step in the right direction for the Kratom community who have spoken and voiced their educated facts / opinions to prevent the ban from ever reaching second base.

With such a strong user-base that include the likes of doctors, university professors as well as other professional / institutional figures of importance, the DEA surely stands no chance in taking another swing at Kratom, only to be bogged down again and again by scientific and real life evidence of safety.

We as a Kratom community justifiably won this game once and for all.

Kratom can be used in various ways like kratom tea, kratom powder, etc. It has gained so much popularity, just because this medicine does not give any kind of side effects.

Hi, Can you please tell me if Kratom is only available to purchase online? One couldn't find it in a GNC or A Natural Herb store? I've been so interested & curious about Kratom for about a year now and would very much appreciate any information you may have about purchasing Kratom and any other advice or information about it. Thanks in advance!

Hi Kimberly,

You can purchase Kratom in person at local "smoke shops", albeit the general consensus (that I've been made aware of) in regards to obtaining Kratom in this manner, suggests that the quality is sub par versus that of various online retailers.

Personally, I've had a positive experience with Kwik Botanicals, KratomOne (based in Santa Barbara, CA) and Kratom Therapy. Kwik Botanicals has been my go to for quality Maegn Da Green and Red Bali. I also prefer them because they offer free shipping and have better prices than other vendors, but I don't think you can go wrong with any of those options. There's also another company by the name of Phytoextractum that offers tinctures (extracts) that I've been wanting to try as a way to avoid the bitter taste of Kratom, but I haven't gone through with any orders yet since it costs a pretty penny.

NOTE: In my trials and errors I find that the Tri-Force blend by KratomOne is unprecedented in its effects but requires a higher threshold dose than other strains (aka - downing more of that nasty taste LOL). I think it could be beneficial for day or night-time use. Maeng Da green however is a staple for day time use and Red Bali is excellent for bedtime. The red strains are more sedating and the greens are a balance of stimulation (endurance) and relaxation. The white and yellow strains are for pure energy - like strong coffee. Effects last anywhere from 4 hours to 8 hours depending on dose and quality. My personal dose of Maeng Da or Bali is 1 to 1.5 teaspoon, whilst the Tri-Force blend is 1 tablespoon. I would probably encourage you to start off at the minimum amount that you feel comfortable with before upping it, as too high of a dose can make you feel very drowsy for a few hours. As a general rule of thumb with all Kratom, smaller doses are more stimulating and higher doses are sedating.

If you're new to Kratom, something else to be aware of is that the taste can be harsh, so I've found that prepping it in the form of hot tea (and adding raw honey) really makes a big difference. I've also tried putting it in capsules before and that worked too, but it takes a lot of 00' capsules for 1 dose (maybe like 5-10).

Hope this helps! :)

Where in the U.S. can I purchase Kratom to legally withdraw from an opiate? I am 85 and live in chronic pain, but the DEA has withdrawn my brand name pain med, with no where else to purchase it, and I'm afraid the pain will kill me if I can't withdraw reasonably! I am suffering from more than 18 auto-immune diseases! Thank you!
I read that at this time Kratom is legal and for sale on U.S. websites but didn't say where!

Re: marin5 (# 9) Expand Referenced Message

Kratom is currently illegal in the following states (& cities) in the US:

Alabama
Arkansas
Indiana
Vermont
Rhode Island
Washington D.C.
Wisconsin
Sarasota County (Florida)
San Diego (California)
Jerseyville (Illinois)
Denver (Colorado) – banned for human consumption

Apparently, in Denver it's legal to have it, but not consume it? LOL - In my opinion, it's pretty obvious that these sporadic laws are a political agenda and not setup to protect responsible consumers.

Personally, depending on your location, I think your best bet would be to order it online. There are many retailers to choose from, but I would just encourage you to do ample research before deciding which vendor may be right for you. I'd also recommend trying more than one vendor in order to gauge comparisons in quality.

I am not affiliated with any vendors, but have had consistent positive experiences with a number of different ones, including kratomone, kwikbotanicals, & kratom therapy. I've also heard good things about kraken kratom.

Hope this helps!

Re: marin5 (# 9) Expand Referenced Message

It depends on where you live some states have made it illegal so can't even get it on line. Like me I live in Tennessee were it's illegal so I have to go out of state to get it. Will have to try headshops like I get mine Google it and see if it's legal in you're state and take it from there. Hopefully this has help you some.
