I just started Jardiance today in the morning together with my insulin and Metformin XR 1000mg. I have been feeling nausea all day, not been able to do much. Can I take this tablet in the evening so I can sleep away the nausea? I didn't have to run to the toilet a lot but it may change as I continue. ## Hi. I'm curious about taking it at night as well. How is it working out for you? ## Hello Karen, According to the manufacturer's directions Jardiance is to be taken first thing in the morning with or without food. My research has found that this is primarily due to the way that our bodies handle insulin after a long resting periods without eating. When my wife was diagnosed with gestational diabetes she was instructed to eat foods at very particular intervals and take her med...

I’m into month 4 on this journey… I just got my bloodwork back and it’s worse than when I started this drug (Jardiance 10 mg). It seemed to help in the beginning when my morning glucose was 100-105. I have not lost any weight on this…may have gained a few pounds though. So my starting blood sugar was 116-120. Well that has not changed according to my new bloodwork. Starting A1C 6.5, now it’s 6.9! Lipids are higher because I added avocado and nuts to my diet. Starting lipid panel was showing my total cholesterol at 246, now 298! This is frightening… it’s not working. Maybe I should have tried Metformin as it’s been around for so long. ## Hello Sue, how are you doing? Has there been any change? Have you also made other dietary adjustments al...

I’ve only been on jardiance for 3 days. Day 1 and 2 we’re totally fine, and it’s been working great for my blood sugar. But I was having some abdominal pain and tested my ketones and it came back as moderate. Does anyone else always have ketones on jardiance? ## Did you only check that once, or did you check more? What you've described was only one check, so that doesn't really translate into always having ketones while on Jardiance. However, people have been known to experience diabetic ketoacidosis, while on Jardiance, so you should make sure to check your ketones regularly, and inform your doctor of the results. Other side effects, as reported by the FDA, may include nausea, increased urination, waking up at night to urinate, hypotension, and arthralgia. Ref...

Well, I have been on Jardiance for 4 months now. I have lost 42 pounds. I have reduced meds. But I have to say, I am peeing every hour, and am fairly incontinent. I also have a funny ashy taste in my mouth. Is there anybody else out there on this stuff? ## Hello, Rebecca! How are you? I'm sorry about the side effects that you're experiencing. As listed by the FDA, Jardiance is used to treat type 2 diabetes and help boost weight loss. The increased urination is normal, that's how the medication eliminated the excess sugars from the body, other side effects may include nausea, hypotension, UTIs and hypoglycemia. What dosage are you on? You may need an adjustment, if it's pushing you to the point where you are experiencing incontinence. ## I go back to the doctor next week....

I was taking Jardiance 10 mg at night before bed, it did keep my sugar down. Now I take metformin in the morning and radiance 25 mg before bed. I haven't had a yeast infection in years, and wondered if anyone else is experiencing this kind of reaction? ## Hello, Christy! How are you? What have your blood sugar levels been? Women with diabetes often experience yeast infections, when their sugars are out of control, as reported by the NIH. Thus, it may be more due to having it under better control. Can any other women who are diabetic chime in? ## I've been taking 25mg X11 wk. Yesterday I noticed itching. Sugars around 130 in am, decreasing to 90-100 during the day. Going to try probiotics. I came off actos due to 20lb weight gain. I also take metformin 500 twice a day. I'm lo...

Hi, I started taking Jardiance in August and then in September I started noticing that my ears seem plugged. I am not diabetic but my doctor put me on it for cardiomyopathy. I’ve been to an ENT doctor and there is no reason for the plugged sensation that I have. So could it be the Jardiance? Has anyone else experienced this? I know it isn’t one of the side effects listed, but I’m at a loss as to what is wrong with my ears. ## I don't see anything listed by the FDA as to it being known to affect ears/hearing. The typical side effects usually include: nausea, dizziness, increased thirst, and increased urination. Ref: Jardiance Information Are you on any other medications?

I’ve been on Jardiance for 4 years and I’m suffering from bad side effects. Do I really have to take this medication for the rest of my life? I already take Glicizide, Metformin, high blood pressure pills, plus a cholesterol pill. I was taking ASA 81 mg, but I was told not to take those anymore. Please help me or give some advice. ## It is odd to keep experiencing side effects if you've been on a steady dose for a long period of time. What symptoms have you been experiencing? The FDA lists the typical side effects of Jardiance as possibly including increased thirst, frequent urination, nausea, headache, and hypoglycemia. Ref: Jardiance Information What are your normal blood sugar levels? What cholesterol pill are you currently taking? They can cause a lot of side effects...

I am a 66 year old male. I have been taking Jardiance 10mg for 5 months. I have developed joint pain in multiple joints from jaw to shoulder to elbow to knee that I never had prior. Could this be a side effect of the Jardiance? ## Hello, Keith! How are you? I'm sorry about the discomfort you're experiencing. Yes, the FDA does list that as being a known possible side effect of Jardiance, along with nausea, headache, hypotension, and increased urination. Ref: Jardiance Information Have you consulted your doctor? You may need to try a different medication, or try something to alleviate the joint pain. Are you on any other medications?

After starting Jardiance I developed a dry cough, hoarseness and sinus infection. The coughing was uncontrollable. Could this be a side effect? ## The FDA does warn that Jardiance has been known to cause cough, and upper respiratory tract infection as side effects, along with nausea, dizziness, hypoglycemia, and hypotension. Ref: Jardiance Information Does your doctor feel that these symptoms were caused by the Jardiance? Are you on any other medications? ## I haven’t seen my doctor yet regarding my side effects. My appointment is on Monday. I’ll update at that time.

I was started on 10 mg of Jardiance 1 week ago. Began experimenting severe lower back and abdominal pain and cramping within 24 hours. Stopped taking drug after 2 doses but pain has only minimally stopped. Have been to emergency department and have no uti, tumour or kidney failure, but have completely lost sensation of knowing when to urinate! Last night had a super full bladder but completely unaware until I experienced super sharp pain. Will this get better? What should I do? ## Have you returned to the prescribing doctor to discuss what happened? Jardiance has been known to cause urinary issues, such as bladder pain, and infections, as side effects, along with nausea, dizziness, and low blood sugar, according to FDA reports. Can I take Jardiance? Pre diabetes, my A1C has been holding at 5.7 for 2 years. Can I take this medication to lower my A1C? I also have coronary artery disease. ## Has your doctor prescribed it for you? Sometimes they do prescribe medications for pre-diabetes to try to help prevent someone developing full diabetes. Jardiance may cause side effects, such as nausea, hypoglycemia, increased urination, and feeling weak. Ref: Jardiance Information Are you on any other medications? What does your normal diet consist of?

Paid $388 for a month supply of Jardiance to only use 3 days and told to stop. There should be a refund allowed. Or give samples for high cost medication. ## I am very sorry about what happened, and I agree with you. I'm very sensitive to medications, and have quite a few allergies, so I've spent money on medications many times, only to end up having to stop them to try something else, it is a horrible waste of money. Some companies do provide doctors with free samples that they can provide to their patients to see if the medication works for them, before they have to spend money on it, but not all of them do. Unfortunately, in most cases, you do need to take a medication for 4 to 6 weeks, before it will reach its full level of effectiveness in the body to see if it works, so mo...

Weird, moving muscle aches like I got with statins. I ran out of jardiance for a week and they improved. Now 3 days of back on and miserable. I am female, 68 and I want to be able to walk my dog and ride my snowboard! ## Unfortunately, that can be a side effect of Jardiance, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, and ketoacidosis according to FDA reports. Ref: Jardiance Information How long have you been taking it? Side effects typically hit their peak strength around 4 to 5 weeks of taking one steady dose of a new medication, then begin to taper off, until they eventually go away. However, if your symptoms are severe, you should consult your doctor as it might not be the right medication to help you.

Since starting on Jardiance, my urine after my morning dose has an odd odor like the odor from new vinyl seats in a car. ## It would be best to inform your doctor, since Jardiance has been known to cause both ketoacidosis, and urinary tract infections, as side effects. Ref: Jardiance Information Many medications, and foods, can change the smell, or color or your urine, but it is always best to seek advice from a medical professional to be sure. I keep reading that you should start at the 10mg dosage but my doctor prescribed me the 25mg to start. Is this normal and ok? Right now I am taking 2.5mg glipizide and my fasting blood sugars are running around 100-120. She also didn't tell me if I should stop glipizide when starting Jardiance. ## Usually, Jardiance is taken along with your other diabetes medication, but you should double check with your doctor to be sure. I'd suggest also consulting them to be sure about the dosage, since you are correct, it is usually started at the 10mg dosage. Ref: Jardiance.com It's typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, hypoglycemia, increased urination, and dehydration. Are you on any other medications?

Hi I take 25mgs of Jardiance after my breakfast and 2000 mg after dinner. Because of having to visit the bathroom much more with the Jardiance in the mornings, could I take it after my evening meal and the Metformin after my breakfast? This would only be while I am away on holiday and then go back to normal taking the tablets as before my holidays ## You should take the medications as instructed by your doctor, if you feel you need to make any changes, even temporarily, you should check with them to make sure it is okay for you to do so. Increased urination can be a typical side effects of these medications, as well as an effect of diabetes. Other side effects, as reported by the FDA, may also including nausea, gas, bloating, stomach pain, diarrhea, and lowered blood sugar levels. How l...

I am waking in the night with severe stomach ache and bloating in my mid stomach pancreas area. Has anyone else had this? Does it go away? I'm also on Lansoprazole and Telmisartan. ## Jardiance has been known to cause some gastrointestinal issues as side effects, including stomach pain, but you should have this checked out by your doctor to be sure. Hi, I am on heart medication because I have Cardiomyopathy. I wanted to start Jardiance because I need to lose weight so my doctor put me on Diabex first then intends to put me on Jardiance. My sugar is always high. Is it safe for me to take so many medications? ## If your sugar level is always high, then it is highly likely that you are actually diabetic, that is one of the most obvious symptoms of diabetes, according to the NIH. Other symptoms are listed as possibly including headache, weight gain, frequently feeling hungry, and frequent urination. Do you experience any of these, symptoms? ## Hi yes I have all those symptoms Verwon I am always Up every night peeing. My doctor told me I'm pre Diabetic so I guess that's why she put me on Diabex. Which one is better for managing blood sugar levels, Galvus Met or Melmet? In addition to these medications, how effective is Jardiance in controlling sugar levels & does it have any side effect on ladies using this medicine? ## Galvus Met contains the active ingredients Vidagliptin, and Metformin, Melmet contains the active ingredient Metformin, and Jardiance contains Empagliflozin, so though they all treat the same condition, Diabetes, they are different. The best one to use depends on what your doctor recommends, and what works best for you. These medications aren't gender specific, so the possible side effects remain the same for everyone, and may include nausea, dizziness, headache, low blood sugar, and stomach irritation. What has your doctor advised you to take?

I just recently started on Jardiance to assist in stabilizing blood sugar. I have Type 2 diabetes and struggle in keeping my A1C within normal range. This drug was added to help reduce sugar and possible weight loss. I am wondering what type of weight loss people are experiencing and what side effects if any. I am only on this med 5 days so far but urinating frequently, does it slow down after some time? That's what my doc said. Thanks. ## Hi Sue, I have not tried the medication known as Jardiance (empagliflozin) for stabilizing blood sugar levels, but did want to share a brief general list of side effects I came across, courtesy of the FDA [1]: - Hypotension (low blood pressure) - Impaired Renal Function - Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) - Genital Mycotic Infections - Urinary Tract ...
