Isotretinoin Reviews

Updated

My dermatologist reccomended the medication Isotretinoin for me and strongly suggests it. But while reading over the side effects, me and my father had a lot of second thoughts and said we'd think our decision over. Our doctor said the only side effect that would mainly occur are chapped lips and some depression. If anyone can help me out with either their experiences or has known someone who has taken it, let me know. I'm still a 'kid' and need to know what i'm doing before taking action.

Some depression wow... My son was on the drug, now depressed and can't sleep. The guilt I have is overbearing. Type in isotretinoin and brain at google scholar and research. The Dr. has apparently never been clinically depressed.

I don't think it's that bad. I took this medicine for 3 months, but had no side-effect other than dry skin which I actually liked after so many years of oily skin

So i can deffinitely see there's a differance for everyone. The side effects matters on the individual. It's the matter or taking the chance and facing whatever side effect gets thrown at you.

This medication is primarily used for the treatment of moderate to severe acne.

And yes, medications can affect everyone differently, some people may not have any side effects, while other may get slammed with a lot of them. The only real way to find out is by trying the drug and seeing how it works for you.

Some of the most common side effects may include: acne, skin peeling, rash and nosebleeds.

Is there anything else I can help you with?

This post is misleading... Isotretinoin (accutane) is a Chemotherapy drug. They discovered the effects on the skin so started to use it as an acne drug.... I did not know this until it was too late for my 16yr old son who now suffers Joint, muscle and bone pains along with many other side effects...

I took this medicine for over 6 months but only 2 tablets a week for most of the period. My doctor made me undergo some medical tests ( cholesterol, lipid profile) before prescribing the medicine to assess any possible risks. And he told me certain things to be avoided while i took isotretinoin ( like donating blood , getting pregnant) . Only side effects i experienced was daru lips) while the acne cyst vanished.

I would 100% recommend it. My parents and I worried for over a year about it, but having just finished the treatment I can say it was worthwhile.
I was bullied alot and always felt insecure with acne. The confidence you get from having clear skin is worth the side effects.
You do get chapped lips, dry skin, and other things occasionally like conjunctivitis and mood swings, but in all honesty if you want clear skin it is worth it.
I feel happier in myself and 6 months of side effects is worth getting back your self-confidence.

please for the love of your own life, do not take this drug ever. my younger brother has suffered from schizophrenia due to taking this medication. I know he took this on high dosage for i am not sure how many cycles. But i am sure after his first cycle, he was rushed for the hospital for severe back and stomach pain. doctors could not figure out what was wrong with him. actually my older brother took this medicine also and suffered great back pain as well after a month. I am sure your pimples will just go away after puberty and just eat properly and drink lots of water. taking a chemo drug in your teens and early years of life is the dumbest thing you can do. maybe better to do natural treatment or even natural drugs instead of this wild synthetic chemo drug. dont let pharma companies fool you. america is full of deceit and people are misinformed about the truth. side effects are irreversible and last forever.

I, too, had second thoughts when I read the side effects, and also within the first month or so when the side effects were bad and it seemed as though the medication was not even doing anything. But trust me, 6 months down the line, I could not be happier that I decided to stick through it and take the medication for the time span they recommended. If I were you, I would risk it. Definitely worth it if you have issues with acne. Of course, don't get me wrong, I do still get spots now, but they're no longer huge, or anywhere near as frequent. My chin used to be completely covered in painful, headless spots beneath the skin, but it's clearer now than it ever has been, and the redness is dying down. For the first time in years, I can go out without piling on the makeup to make my hideous face look somewhat normal again.

I experienced depression, however I cannot say whether it as the medication because I've been prone to depression for many years now, and also had the experience of leaving home for university 4 months into the treatment, which in itself is a depressing and traumatic thing, so there's not telling whether I was affected by it. As for the other symptoms, I experienced one nose bleed, which was a shock at the time since it appeared to come from nowhere, but that was easily handled by rubbing vaseline inside my nostrils with a cotton bud daily. I also had dry, chapped lips, which medicated Chapstick easily cured, and moisturising daily kept on top of my dry skin. I also had dandruff at one point, but a simple anti-dandruff shampoo cured that and afterwards I used Aussie's Miracle Moist shampoo and conditioner and have had no problems since.

The one thing I did find a bit annoying was the fact that I was recommended to avoid taking painkillers, but I learned to cope with that.

Hope that has helped you out in your decision a little.

Hi like many ppl on these forums suffered since teen years, tried everything gp could advise tetracycline cream is good for external redness and swelling if any1 would like to know, also tried old folk tricks like taking brewers yeast tablets/ this is whay i would recommend younger ppl to take firstly before going to accutane as i went through everything then decided on accutane admittedly i should of taken about a year earlier when 22-23? Would definetly recommend the treatment. 8 months ago had swollen spots all over forehead, temples cheeks ect, thought at first they wouldnt be as bad, unfortunately i was wrong :( this treatment has been a god send to person of my age and ive got the right amount prescribed to me individually. Been on it for 3 months gradually increasing the dosage 20mg atm 3 p/day, get the odd. Depressed day mostly today in fact and thats when started looking at forums and reading of othe people has made me feel much better as other ppl in the same boat so no1s alone who is on accutane on here :) got 1 question though as I'm still on meds but does anybody experience a lot on they're back? This is where it can be bad for myself as they will go at work sat in office with a white short its very very noticeable to ppl around and feel :( hope some of this will help anyway.

Also going to add any1 who is thinking of taking the treatment try different products on the market and things your gp can prescribe before going on this as many mau have read of awful things happening to other users but the drug has moved on a lot since 2006-2009 and anyone on the treatment and experiencing dry skin/ almost rash lookin on your body apply e45 cream morning and night and that's working well for me atm just like to add :)
