Is It Safe For 8 Year Old To Take Adderall And Resperdal

My son is 8 years old diagnosed ADHD he is taking adderall and now because of the mood swings effected by the adderall the doc has now prescribed risperdal. I am wondering if this is safe for him?

I have a grandchild whose taking Adderall for adhd, but she has no appetite most of the time she has lost a lot of weight and she was already small. This medicine gives her headaches makes her stomach hurts. I am worried about my g-child this stuff suppose to help but I have seen so much bad things about this medicine also deaths. please help me tell my daughter WHAT'S UP WITH THIS MEDS.

I have a son that is 12 years old, he has been on Adderall and risperdal, for about 6 years now. He has been on medication for ADHD since he was 2 years old. When he was 6 years old the doctor diagnosed him with ODD and ADHD. The risperdal is for the ODD which he takes before bed. In case you don't know ODD is oppositional defiant disorder. You should talk to the doctor about your son getting a blood test when taking the risperdal as it has caused males to have enlarged breasts. Gynecomastia is a condition characterized by abnormally large breasts in males. It is caused by excessive breast tissue growth, not excess fat. The condition is often caused by hormone imbalances in the body. In the case of Risperdal the problems stem from an overabundance of the hormone prolactin. My son test came back fine. My son has benefited from taking these medications, his grades in school are A & B's but has gotten a few C's.

It is always best to follow the instructions provided by the doctor.

The NIH lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, sedation, and somnolence.

As Angela has stated, results can vary from person to person, especially regarding children, or elderly, the FDA does warn that side effects can be more pronounced in them.

How is everyone doing? Has there been any change?

I wouldn"t think so in the long run its a psycotic medication and these meds can have long devastating side effects i would try something more natural like vitamin B-12 these psycotic meds messes with your childrens chemical imbalance in the brain which isn't good and eventually the Drs will trying keep them on this medicine and prescribed higher doses every time until there addicted and messed up in the head

Don't do it. This is always their answer to everything, psychotic meds to mess your child up. There's other alternatives like st. johns wort, b-6, b-12, etc, more natural alternatives... but they get your child hooked on all these psychotics meds and then your child starts having all these horrible side effects that they say is normal but is actually messing your child up in the long run. Then when something bad happens they put them on something way worse. Please don't trust these people. Their name means nothing especially if they don't care about your child's well being and most don't, they just to pretend to so they can make their money inj. your child with these drugs. Trust me, I know, I'm a parent who's going through it and it hasn't been easy but heartbreaking. Everyone's different, yes we are but we're all human and deserve to be treated that way. Am I angry? Yes I am. My child didn't deserve what she's going through and neither does yours, so please take my advice and be aware.

Risperdal is a mood stabilizer I gained too much weight. I was changed to Lamictal which is the generic name and works wonders!! Risperdal work wonders for me except for gaining 50 lb I did research and found that Lamictal will work just as good I have been on it for at least 5 years, with no problems, I take 200 in the morning in 200 in the evening for bipolar.
