I take Flecainide twice daily and have just increased from 50 mg to 100 mg twice a day. I am experiencing blood in urine but have no kidney of bladder infection. Read that a side affect of Flecainide could result in blood in urine. Has anyone experienced this issue? ## Hello, DB! How are you? Is this still occurring? Anytime you have blood in your urine, you should consult your doctor. While it may be due to a medication, there is also a chance that it could be due to some other serious health condition and it does need to be checked out as soon as possible. Learn more Flecainide details here. Have you contacted your doctor, yet? ## Yes. I just increased from 50 to 100 as well. The next day I had dark red urine. This morning was concerned so I bit one in half making it 75. Still have da...

Should Amiodarone 200mg Tab ZYD be prescribed to someone diagnosed with Amyloidosis? My amyloidosis is causing a very irregular heart beat, stiffness in my wrist, legs & jaw. I have taken Amiodarone for one day (3 pills) and stiffness appears to be worse & was unable to sleep. I have a history of being very sensitive to medications. ## It is normal to experience some side effects, whenever you start a new medication. The FDA lists those as being possibly side effects, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased urination. Having only taken 3 pills, it would be very odd to notice a significant change, but we are all different, so the possibility cannot be ruled out. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change? Are you on any other medications?

What is the name of the RX? I was given it for rapid heart beat. I will look it up on the internet once I have some details where I can find it. ## Watson lists this tablet as containing 150mgs of Propafenone. The FDA lists its typical side effects as including nausea, dizziness, headache, low heart rate, and low blood pressure. Are there any questions I can help with?

i need an antibiotic for a UTI and i use Tikosyn..what antibotic is safe to use with tikosyn? ## Hello, Susan! How are you? Unfortunately, there are far too many antibiotics on the market for me to be able to check them all for interactions with the Tikosyn. Have you consulted your doctor? They should be able to prescribe one that you can safely take, your pharmacy will also double check for you, when you have it filled. Alternatively, if your doctor prescribes one, you can feel free to post back here and I'll gladly check for you. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Do not take any super antibiotics such as Bactrim or Ciparo Dr gave me Macrobid Otherwise it will affect your QT ## I have been prescribed Levofloxin for sinus infection . Is this safe to take with Tikosyn ? ## I...

I am prescribed with regular Sotalol for my A Fib, but the insert says it's for ventricular fibrilation. Wondering if maybe I have the wrong version? ## HI, Rog! Yes, there are 2 version of this medication. Sotalol AF treats A-Fib, but the regular is only used to treat rhythm disturbances of the lower heart, which would be the ventricular fibrillation or tachycardia. Thus, you'd specifically need the Sotalol AF. The pharmacy can't just switch it for you, however, so you'll need to contact your doctor for a new prescription. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thanks. That's what the insert says, so I called the cardiologist's office and was told by her nurse that the regular Sotalol is appropriate for my A Fib! She was aware of the AF version. So now I...

After an ablation I had a monitor on for 30 days. The doctor said I had Afib and put me on 100 mg of flecainide twice a day plus 5 mg of eliquis twice a day. I seem to be having constipation problems. Plus blood in rectal area which could be from something else as I have had that problem before. ## Hi Nancy, Sorry to hear about your situation. From what I could gather, "red or black, tarry stools" are listed as a side effect of Eliquis (Apixaban) on medlineplus.gov. "Black, tarry stools" + "constipation" + "blood in the urine or stools" are all listed as side effects of Flecainide on nih.gov. It sounds to me like either medication could potentially be the culprit, but I would encourage you to contact your doctor about this just to be on the safe side. Hop...

I am 64 yr old female. 200mg a day. How dangerous is this drug. My Dr. did not want to give it to me, but nothing else worked. Am looking to have an ablation soon. ## Hi sue, I did some research on this medication, and the information I have found is not so promising. There have been deaths linked to this medication and from what I can gather, those deaths have a lot to do with how toxic the medication is. A couple of the black box warnings associated with Amiodarone state that arrhythmias can be worsened and that it may cause significant heart block. If your doctor is afraid to give this to you, I would honestly listen to him and not take any chances. There is no way to know for sure if it will cause you any problems, but is it really worth the risk? Is there ANYTHING else that you can...

On our prescription label for sotalol hcl tabs, the sequence aptx2 appears in the bottom right hand corner. What does this sequence mean? ## What manufacturer named APTX2 makes generic atorvastatin? ## I think it is this Canadian company. Apotex. apotex.com/us/en/products/search.asp?qt=All&qs=&t=All%20Products ## Jim is right. I just got on their website. I have just been changed to this generic and have a suspicion that it is what is causing my recent brain fog and fatigue. The website does not tell what country it is made in.The fact that Canada is where the company is does not mean that that is where it was made. I did not feel this way when taking the former generic I was on or when I was on Lipitor. Has anyone else had trouble with this drug? ## That stands for the manufact...

Is it safe to take betapace opened up instead of taking the capsule? ## If your doctor or pharmacist have not said it was alright to do so, then I would avoid it, as some medications do not work as intended when they are released into the body all at once. ## I have been taking Betapace the brand name for 20 years because generic Sotalol does not work for me. This year my copay for 100 is $1200 and I don't know what to do? ## Betapace is not a capsule. It is an oblong pill.

Since taking Hexarone my husband has complained of sore itchy breasts. He also feels his vetiligo has worsened. Could this have been caused by the Hexarone? ## Hi llona, Hexarone (amiodarone hydrochloride) actually has quite a few side effects that in my opinion appear to be the cause of your husband's discomfort. I think the symptoms mentioned in the links below can help to pin-point certain aspects of what he may be feeling or experiencing: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0000870/#a687009-sideEffects home.intekom.com/pharm/hexal/hexarone.html#SIDE-EFFECTS It also seems obvious to me for Hexarone to be the cause of those conditions if he hasn't experienced any of this until shortly after taking the medication. Do you know if he is taking anything else with Hexarone that could ...

I've been on Flecainide for around 8 years and so far no issues. My last major breakthrough was March 2011. I have the occasional PVC but nothing major. I got a new set of prescriptions and one of them was 150mg tablets from AvKare. I started with these and about a week later I started having issues. Numerous PVCs, episiodes of afib that lasted anywhere from 1 to 2 hours. I had some leftover tablets from the prior prescription and stared taking those (while taking the new prescriptions for the rest of my meds) I'm feeling better and episodes are only occurring when I'm sleeping and I'm hoping by the end of the week I'll be back to normal. I'm thinking I got a bad batch of pills but I don't know how to confirm it. Any suggestions? ## How are you doing, now? Ha...

Have been on 50 mg Flecainide twice daily and 125 mcg Digoxin once daily for one year due to sporadic episodes of tachycardia and one incident of Afib that landed me in the hospital. My rhythm adjusted itself after 12 hours. I noticed an increase in hair loss a month or two after I started taking it. I thought it was due to stress levels several months previously because I had experienced hair loss in the past due to stress. That subsided and the hair would grow back but not entirely. However, it has been continually falling out an alarmingly steady pace since. I have seen my dermatologist who said everything seemed normal and to try rogaine. I just had bloodwork for several issues to see if this mystery can be solved and have not gotten the results. It dawned on me that the time frame ...

Hello everyone! I have been on Flecainide for 3 years for constant PVCs and now since my heart rate has been in the 40s and 50s the dr has told me to stop it the 16th of this month (June) and then on the 19th of this month I will have a heart ablation. I asked if I should wean myself off and he said not just stop taking it 3 days before but I am really scared to do this. Can anyone shed some light on their experiences with this procedure and stopping this medication? Thank you all so much, Margue Mack ## That is the normal procedure, and it is always best to follow your doctor's instructions. Have you had the ablation, yet? If so, how did it go? The FDA lists the typical effects of abruptly stopping Flecainide as possible including elevated heart rate, elevated blood pressure, and r...

I am quite frankly very scared about coming off of sotalol. I have been taking 80 mg twice daily for about 15 years for SVT. I am in the stages where I am thinking about getting pregnant and my cardiologist suggested that I try coming off medication as a first option. If that doesn't work the second choice of his would be to switch to Propranolol but it is not his first choice as there can be risks with pregnancy and that drug. Anyone have any experience weaning off of a drug like sotalol? I am worried because anytime I have missed a dose I have felt like absolute crap, kind of like a weird heavy feeling and shortness of breath. I'm also terrified of the hospital so the idea of having to go there to stop the potential SVT is also terrifying. :( Anyway just curious to hear some o...

I have been on 50mg twice daily of flecainide for 14 years. My heart dr is concerned with my long term usage have had no issues at all since I've been on it should I be concerned? ## Hello, Lynne! How are you? Not all damage may be immediately noticeable, some medications tend to cause problems very slowly and no one notices, until it's too late. There have been some cases of people developing peripheral neuropathy from long-term use of it, anywhere from 2 to 10 years, which means that they also took it for a long time, without any issues. Thus, if your doctor thinks you should stop taking it and switch to something else, then it would be best to follow their advice. The FDA lists the other side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrh...

I have search for almost 2 hours now over the entire Internet to no avail. I honestly have no clue as to what it is; when given to be I was told it serequel but after identifying serequel I know that cannot be it. If you find any information it please inform me aswell. I had an A-fib episode in 2008 and was put on 120 MG of Sotolol taken twice a day (240 MG total daily consumption). Tested well with this drug during 4 day hospital stay and never seemed to have any side effects. Took Sotolol until 2014; then my EP said I no longer needed it if I avoided my A-fib trigger...spicey food. All went well until recently when I had a return episode (first in over 8 years) and was hospitalized and put back on the same dosage of Sotolol and have now been on it for 23 days. This time I am experiencing bad side effects: dizziness, shortness of breath, nausea and overall weakness. Will these side effects dissipate over time? (They disappear every evening when my morning dosage wears off.) Cardiologist suggested I reduce dosage to 160 MG per day but I fear the A-fib...

I've recently been diagnosed with pleurisy and arrhythmia and want to know if there is any treatment for pleurisy? ## Hello, Kim! How are you? I am very sorry about the issues you're experiencing. It depends on what's caused the pleurisy, according to NIH reports, the underlying condition that caused it must be treated, in order to resolve the pleurisy. Sometimes it is due to an infection, cancer, congestive heart failure, TB, or other health conditions. Were you prescribed any medications? Were any treatment options suggested?
