I have 6 boxes left and don't know what to do with them, I know they cost me like crazy but I don't need them anymore. Any suggestions?

I too have a lot of Lovenox left over and need to find out how to donate it. I won't just send it as that is illegal. But if someone needs it I can send to their physician and let them handle it.

The FDA actually has a specific set of guidelines on how to "properly" dispose of any unused portions of Rx medication.

On their website they mention that some communities have what's called a "drug take-back program", in which you can take your medication(s) to a particular location for proper disposal. If you'd prefer to go that route, they just recommend contacting your local city/county household trash and recycling service to see if it's available in your area.

If not, there are also a number of other suggestions displayed on their webpage that may be helpful:

I know it's not always easy to dump something that you originally paid good money for. But for safety reasons, It's probably just best to do whatever needs to be done to get rid of it and call it a day.

I can send mine to your physicians office if it is the right strength. I am not willing to just send it privately, but I am willing to help through your physicians office. If you would like to provide me with contact information for them I can see if they will work with me.

My heart breaks for the people who have to take Lovenox injections and can't afford them. Our medical system is screwed up. I have been very blessed and have been able to afford them or my insurance has paid for them. However, no one pays any attention to the amount that has been given I only needed 8/ 100mlg shots for this up coming surgery and was given 60 with 4 refills. Seriously?! When my family member brought my script back I was stunned to have this package filled with SO many shots. They will expire in less than a year and are ridiculous in price. There HAS to be a way to donate these unused shots to someone who truly needs them and it NOT be illegal. These shots are $100 a pop!! Seriously?! There has to be a better way then throwing them out.

I had this "problem" as well just a few months ago when my wife died. After many inquiries and a lot of online searching, I finally found an organization that would take what I had and put it to use in Haiti, the Konbit Sante Cap-Haitien Health Partnership in Maine: konbitsante.org.

The drug manufacturer has a program to provide Lovenox at no charge to people with limited income. I'd urge you to contact them directly--or ask you MD or hospital to do so on your behalf.
