Ok so I had gotten a fever one morning and the day before I felt really drained of energy. then I got some little white sores on my tongue and my gums had become swollen and extremely sensitive, so much that i hurt to brush me teeth and to even eat. i went to the clinic to see what is wrong, i was tested for strep and mono but both tests came back negative. the doctor said it was just viral and to just take ibuprofen or Tylenol for the pain. well it had gotten worse so i went back and the new doctors said that i had the virus herpes simplex but did not say specifically which one. anyways she gave me a prescription on acyclovir to take for 10 days. the medication worked but now i noticed that my gums above my wisdom teeth are still very swollen and have a sort of flap on them. could all of this have been caused by an infection of my wisdom teeth or is it for sure herpes? my boyfriend told me that he got cold sores once in a while but since i have been with him he has had no sores or anything could he have given me the virus even if he didn't have any open sores? we have been together for almost 6 months and this barley happened now.

It's difficult to say for certain what may have caused the herpes simplex virus without a deeper examination or diagnoses from your doctor. It could just be that while you were sick, your immune system was low enough to catch something that would otherwise be fought off naturally. Herpes viruses are said to spread very easily. You can catch this virus if you have intimate or personal contact with someone who is infected or if you touch something that is infected with the herpes virus, such as infected razors, towels, dishes, and other sharedÂitems.

You can learn more about herpes simplex in the link below:

I hope this helps!

I had a similar experience. Two days into a corse of the antibiotic Bactrum. I woke to a mouth full of bisters and torn , hanging skin. Eventualy it covered every mucus membrane in my body. After all the blisters ruptured, I was left with no skin at all. The absolute worst 3 weeks of my life!
At the ER a culture of the sores were taken. It was thought to be one of two things. Viral Herpes or the Stevie Johnson Syndrome. A Severe but a rare allergic reaction to sulfur. The Bactum I had been taking was a sulfur based antibiotic that caused my alergic reaction.
