Indiana Doc Prescribing Tramadol

Need doc in indiana willing to prescribe tramadol for busy mom in desperate need of pain relief. Longtime sufferer of rheumatoid arthritis in spine and fibromyalgia. Please help!!

Hello, Kccol! How are you? I'm sorry that you're in pain.

Unfortunately, there is no listing of doctors according to what they will or will not prescribe that I can refer to for you. Additionally, due to the new directives set forth by the DEA last year, if you require such a medication on a long-term ongoing basis, you'll need to see a pain management specialist. A general practitioner won't prescribe it.

The FDA classifies this medication as an opioid analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Do you currently have a PCP that might be able to refer you to someone? If so, that might be the quickest and easiest way to find the help you need.

Can anyone recommend a good doctor in that area?

I've seen a pain specialist in the past. The doc is currently under investigation for, of all things, over prescribing pain meds. To get into a new doc means waiting several months and I would have to have all the expensive tests done again. I can't take the stronger pain meds like darvocets, hydro condones because I'm really sensitive. I've had tramadol in the past and know it works. Thanks for your response!

A general physician can and will prescribe Tramadol, even today. The person that said they will not has no idea what he/she is speaking of. I have been on Tramadol for 10+ years and have never had to see a pain management specialist.
