Pauline Says:

My husband is HIV positive and is taking Lamivudine, Zidovudine,Efavirenz and Ilvitrim. he has been told at the hospital that his creatinine levels are high. He has had a blood test and must go back next month. Do any of these tablets make these levels higher. Also why would he be taking ilvitrim as I believe this is an antibiotic.

Verwon Says:

Pauline, his level of Creatinine could be up due to the medications, or from several other factors, such as decreased kidney function or dehydration.

Have his doctors said what they believe is causing it?

As to the antibiotic, they are commonly given to HIV patients to prevent possibly infection, because it does cause suppressed immunity, so they can develop infections much easier than someone normally would.

Pauline Says:

Hi, No they have not given him a reason. They just said that they cannot give him 3 months supply of tablets only one month then he must go back to the hospital for further instructions.
Kind regards, Pauline

Hi Dr. I'm currently on TB treatment for almost two months now. And I am HIV positive CD4 counter 188. I've started taking Tribuss two days ago and still continuing with my TB meds. Bt my doctor advised me to take these medications on different schedules, I take TB meds everyday at 08:00am and my Tribuss at 20:00pm.

So what I want to ask is will this pill (Tribuss) work well together with Rifafour e275 for TB that I'm on? The other thing I occasionally drink alcohol (Beer) maybe once or twice a month and I smoke everyday about 5 to 6 cigarettes a day of which I'm trying to quit. So how will this also affect efficacy of my medications? Thanks.

I was having flu like symptoms and I went to the gp who gave me ilvitrim to take twice daily and other meds for fever & pain. Am hiv+ and has being on arvs for over 5 yrs, immediately after my first dose i started feeling funny even worse than before i went to the dr, i was nauseas, stomach burning and very dizzy. I took a decision not to continue with the antibiotic and took some green tea & 3 spoons of pure coconut oil to flush out whatever was wrong. It's been two days, am not hundred percent fine but much better. And i decided to do some research on this antibiotic only to get my blood pressure high. I still do not understand why a dr who holds a PDM(hiv/aids) & family physician can make such a mistake. My viral load is undetectable and cd4 count is way above 1300.
