I Take 2 30mg Of Amphetamine Salts Er A Day And I Am Tired

Updated

I have been on adderall XR for several years now and it has always worked great. Recently my pharmacy switch me to the generic form, Amphetamine Salts ER 30mg Cap. I am tired all the time now and I all I ever want to do is sleep. Is this normal? Is there a difference between Adderall and the generic form?

The proper generic for Adderall is mixed Amphetamine Salts, so you may want to double check your prescription.

Your body can also get used to the same medication and dosage if you have been on it for a long period of time and it may no longer work as well. This may require a medication switch or dosage adjustment.

And yes, there can also be differences between the name brands and generics. The generic is actually allowed to fluctuate in the active ingredient by as much as plus or minus 20%.

So, all three of these are issues that you may wish to look into and discuss with your doctor.

Have you tried talking to them or to your pharmacist, yet?

Are you serious?? How can they fluctuate the dosage as much as 20% They are given the same standards of compliance as the actual Adderall and I find if very difficult to believe they can allow a drug to be 20% less or more than prescribed. You would be looking at a legal suit if someone were to die from taking what they thought was a 30mg pill but it was actually 50mg of amphet. ALL drugs are subjected to the same standards. Why would you even suggest such a thing? I am sorry for speaking up here but you cannot actually believe that simply because a drug is generic that it does not have to follow the same set of standards of all drugs. Where would you get such an idea?? Maybe the fillers they use are different but there is no way they can just toss in whatever they feel like and get away with it. Do you think they just check the name brand drugs for quality and safety and allow any generic to be sold with no diagnostics. I don't think so..Why would you say such a thing? Where are you getting your information?

Dear Suzzy,
As someone who has independently noticed a difference between generics for the three medications I take daily (including Adderall 30 mg), I was seriously astounded by the naiveté in your post. Sweetie, you must be very young, or very privileged, or perhaps both; in the real world, the FDA is just as subject to bribery and corruption as every other governmental agency. The pharmaceutical industry in the United States provides Millions of Dollars to politicians in the House and Senate, who in turn supply them with funding, make laws to protect their patent rights, etc., etc. Please take this the right way, but have you ever read the History of the United States? Try telling the Native Americans that the government would never steal away their lands and corral them onto impoverished "reservations" (and, if I interpret your post correctly, you have rarely been exposed to the injustices that the majority of the world experiences daily--so please don't reply that Native Americans live in poverty because they are alcoholic bums--guess who got them hooked on liquor at the outset before they had a chance to acquire the requisite genes/proteins to metabolize alcohol, unlike their European conquerors?) When you were in school, didn't it seem odd to you that the Native Americans would just sign "Treaties" giving away the land for absolutely nothing in return? (Sorry, they did get some beads.) The indigenous people who inhabited North America before Europeans so rudely took over the continent were bloody bombed out of their minds from the White's "Fire Water." I could go on and on ad infinitum about the corruption and injustices of the world; however, I hope I supplied at least one example of why "we" should not simply "trust" our government and corporate businesses to be concerned with our welfare. "Follow the Money," as the Watergate whistle-blower told a young Woodward and Bernstein....always follow the money....!!!

The 20% difference in a 30mg pill (either higher or lower) would be a range of 24mg to 36mg not 50mg, as you stated. 50mg would be a difference of approximately 67%.

10% of 30 = 3 (27-33)
20% of 30 = 6 (24-36) a 20% difference in a 30mg pill could range from 24mg to 36mg

Think 50% off a $30 item would be a savings of $15

30% of 30 = 9 (21-39)
40% of 30 = 12 (18-42)
50% of 30 = 15 (15-45)
60% of 30 = 18 (12-48)
67% of 30 = 20 (so it would equal 10 mg if 67% lower or 50mg if 67% higher

Interesting fact: my new policy for 2017 does NOT cover the generic amphetamine salts ER caps, but they cover the brand Adderall XR caps. I've had both and the difference isn't even close. Brand by a mile. Which makes sense but there are some reputable companies making the ER generics. None of them come close. With the IR tablets there are 3 solid generics that are as close as possible to the brand. What gives?

Blue Cross...it's a great plan as far as copays and deductibles go, but I found that odd, plus my doc had been giving me 90 15mg IR tabs, but that exceeds their monthly limit of 60 tablets...so my doc just switched me to 30mg 1/2 three times a day....but we had a very interesting conversation about how the insurance companies are gaining more and more power and in my case basically vetoing my doctors orders and making her use a loophole. Scary to think these companies could eventually be doctor, pharmacy, and coverage. Every year the list of doctors covered seems to get smaller and now this year they have limited what pharmacies I can use, not drastically but still I have to wonder what their ultimate goal is. Because it's obviously not providing convenience to the patient. What's next? Not filling a script that isn't written by one of their choice physicians? I'm lucky to have a great Psychiatrist that doesn't take insurance and only charges $60 a visit and I've been with her 8 years. When I first started seeing her she was on my list of covered providers. It's scary to me and people need to be informed because I've never switched policies, but they keep switching their coverage. And I never thought twice about it until I saw the look on my doctors face and heard the way she talked when we discussed this.

To answer the first question, the generic and brand name adderall XR or ER are both junk. My dog has had an unlimited supply of both forms and the name brand Addy XR SUCKS SO DO THE GENERIC, switch to the IR as it stays with you just as long and doesn't make you feel like crap all day, also consider cutting your dose, 60mg of adderall daily is a veryyy high dose my father is a psychiatrist and has explained to me that it's all a marketing scam and there would be no addy XR or ER if there were still a patent on Adderall IR. He does not prescribe XR as they are useless and the reason you are tired is because your probably not taking breaks.. my dog takes a 2 day break every week to keep tolerance down and he only takes 1 30mg generic addy a day. And has found it to be great. Been on that same dose since 2011 and it's 2017. Be careful don't let adderall ruin your life because it can fast and furious. It's a tricky drug useful when needed but if it's making you tired your possibly abusing it or just simply taking too much in one day and may I ask if you take breaks? Without a break weekly you will never reap the benefits fully of this medicine. It's powerful and to be respected..also how is your diet? Stay away from caffeine and foods with high alkalinity as they speed up the absorbtion of adderall.

I have to ask....why is your dog on adderall of both forms? I mean no offense, but aren't dogs the definition of ADD?? Just curious is all.

I can't find a doc (my pshc. retired & my primary is not available all of a sudden) after 2 major fusion surgeries, taking vicodin 10/325 every 6 hours and 15+ years of adderall 70 mg daily up until 2 months ago; menopause, just had a stereotactic biopsy, waiting on results, split with hubby. I am one hurting human being in more ways than one. To top it off i have one of the best health insurances (if you want to call it good). Any suggestions? Sorry for my outburst but I'm a hurting, tired miserable b**** at this time. Sorry. Thank you.
