Based on my research there are drug interactions listed between these two medications. Quoted below are the precautions you should be aware of:

"Using Alprazolam together with Oxycodone may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience some impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications. Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor."

This interaction may have something to do with the xanax not working as well as a it once did; but if you continue to take xanax, you may want to change pain medications. Although I don't have experience taking either of these drugs, I do hear a lot about people abusing oxycodone for a specific high. And I'm thinking that this "high" may also be interfering with the "high" associated with xanax, if that makes any sense?

I hope this insight helps!

ZANAX Is one of the most addictive benzo and like all benzo s after a while your body gets used to it and you need more to reach the same level you had the first weeks! I dont know if the other stuff u r taking make any diffference, but i think that you are just getting used to it and need more and higher dodes of zanax!

Please dont self diagnose and self medicate it can be so dangerous. If your med is no longer working the same its probably because your system has gotten use to it. Sometimes we need a "medication vacation" from the drug in order for it to later start working again. You need to talk to your prescribing Dr and tell them it's no longer working instead of upping your dosage yourself. That dose could be dangerous for you. It's possible your Dr could prescribe you something else for a short while to give your body a break for a bit. Please note lots of people have accidentally overdosed and died taking meds because their body had gotten use to it and they had to take more to get the same affect. Please consult your Dr on what to do and be very careful.

How long have you been on that dosage of Xanax? I was on 1 and a half mg for sleep for 12 years. My doctor on a visit a year ago lowered it to 1mg and I can no longer sleep. I have tried talking to him but he is more concerned with all the new rules with the DEA and the government, I am trying to find a new doctor with no luck. I have always passed my drug panel. I have been seeing him for seven years. Unfortunately because of all the people selling this stuff and other prescription drugs on the streets it has made it hard for people who are in pain and need to sleep to find a doctor willing to treat us right.

Honestly, I have taken both. The oxycontin/oxycodone have never had any euphoric effect on me. And neither has the xanax. I never experienced any of those side effects either. NOW my husband worked in construction, here in Manhattan New York, when one construction worker told him that they called this (oxycontin) the hillbillies morphine. Now this scared him and when I went to my pain management Dr I asked him if I could stop that medication. He did, and now I'm on hydromorphone and the pain patches Fentanyl. On these patches I stopped on my own the oxycontin.

I too suffer from insomnia, a bad one as well. That was and still is the reason for my xanax. But when I enter my menopause, I stared having panic attacks, very nervous. So I, not a Dr, decided to go see a psychiatrist. Actually, when I started I really didn't tell him everything. He started me on ambient and xanax. And I actually wanted to keep going. It felt good to led out all of my issues (or monsters) as I used to call them and still do. Because as I've noticed in life, when we release these monsters we have carried and have made our lives so missable, a new one will ways come into our lives. What they DO NOT TELL US is how can we NOT ALLOW NEW ONES TO COME IN. We just continue going and going into new ones Dr's as well. I never worried about alcohol as I did not drink. Once in a real blue moon I might have a beer. Those side effects that I've been hearing here, I a woman now of the age of 61, have never suffer from them. But also even with these Fentanyl patches, the hydromorphone, Lyrica and gabapentin, all these from my pain management and my personal physician I get the xanax and the ambien! And still I cannot sleep!! These I wish someone would answer for me. But here is the part or actually the part where a Dr must do and promise to do when he takes his oath! DOCTOR DO NO HARM!!!!!

Yeah sure, these Dr's when they put u under these medications. If they see ur not taking as it is. Or as they say, the looks u get are remarkable. DR'S DO NO HARM!! They evaluate your urine, this is i personally understand. But if they see ur not "supposedly" taking according to this U/A, the looks u get, the accusations u get, are incredible. So now ur anxiety and nerves are getting worse. Because u know as a fact ur not doing anything wrong. DR DO NO HARM!!! When u first went, to this pain management and kept going. One day one of ur rx is missing. U went back and tell the Dr it's missing. They insisted they gave it to u. U say ur not leaving until that situation is settled. Then one of the nurses or Dr's assistant found it in HER DESK. In the meantime ur nerves again are racing, faster than a race horse. Then at the beginning when u said it, again the looks u get. But when u confront them and say "see why had it"! They tell u to lower ur voice BUT when they're saying it, they raise they're voices to you!! DR DO NO HARM!! I can continue with this...AND I wish I had the time. But I will, maybe this night!! Because Dr's harm us in so many ways. And we do nothing.

When we do try to do something, the Dr always wins in some ways. Because THEY, THE DOCTORS THAT HAVE SWORN TO "DO NO HARM" have gotten away even with murders, because they do not want their reputation ruined. BUT OURS CAN GET RUINED BY THEM! And this too I have gone through. Again those side effects I've never experienced but we are not all alike. I always say try it, if it works for u great. If it doesn't then stop it and ask for another similar med. And remind them, all Dr's, DR'S DO NO HARM!! They've done harm to me and continue to do harm. But I must get dressed, Easter Sunday. Going to Dr's to eat dinner. Later if I remember I will come back. HAPPY EASTER TO EVERYONE HERE!! GOD BLESS U ALL!

I took alprazolam Xanax for panic attacks. One doc years ago had me on 2 purple 1 mg X3 daily. I wend down on mg by half..(I went from 6 mg to 5 etc etc until I was down to the one. So explain to me why some say it wears off...after 10 years it should have worn off by now). and got down to a safer level. .50 X 2 daily. So I went from taking 6 mg a day to 1 mg a day. I've been on this for 10'years and I don't need to take anymore..it keeps me from panic attacks.

I just wrote about decreasing Xanax..I was wondering why it works different on some people? I have a theory. I was told I had a chemical imbalance..(maybe not chemical...but some imbalance in my makeup?) so 1 mg helps with that compared to people that take it for other reasons. I think I'm imbalanced..just my makeup..I always had an anxious feeling since I was born..at least as far back as I can remember. So my question is..why doesn't a doctor even listen? I moved here in 2012 and got a primary care physician..I told her that I took 2 Xanax a day..point 50. They said no..go to another doctor because I don't or won't prescribe it. I found a different doc and finally he put me on 2 per day.. I had a MAJOR Panic Attack in his office. The heart racing, nauseated, shaking, perspiring, dizzy and crying. That's when he put me on the 2 per day. If he cuts them off I guess I'll have to sit in the ER until they give me something. I DON'T THINK PPL KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE. ITS LIKE A TRAIN COMING AT ME ..ADRENALIN RUSH. I get the feeling but there is no train...I know I'm not goofy..just panicky! Thanks.

Hi Bettyboop, I take 1 mg xanax 2 times a day, was taking 4 times a day and now for exact same reasons you stated I only get 2 times a day now. My Dr put me on a sleeping medication and it is a benzo as well so I do not mix both, I have really bad insomnia and have had it for years, you might want to talk to your Dr about maybe getting a sleeping medication to help you sleep.
