I Have Been Taking 30mg Of Methadone For 6 Weeks And Changed Script Now Take Percocet How Long Will It Me To Stop Having Withdrawls
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I have been taking 30mg a day of methadone for 6 weeks and wanted to switch to percocet and changed script now take 45mg of percocet a day. How long will it take for me to stop having withdrawls symptoms from methadone? I am feeling sick even while I am taking the percocet. Is it possible to still go through methadone withdrawls even while you are taking the percocet?

I agree with you so much on methadone being a miracle drug. I have severe chronic pain that being on 3000mg of OxyContin would not touch a day to living a sort of tolerable day with 175mgs of methadone a day. But from experience methadone is the hardest drug besides Straight Herion to come off of bc you will hurt for 3-5 months after you come off methadone. Doctors tell you that methadone doesn’t get into your bones and joints but I don’t believe them bc that’s the first thing that hurts when you come off it. I was told by my heart doctor that I’ll never be able to come off methadone bc been on it for 31 years and everyone that's tried has had a heart attack. I think if I was the guy on Percocet I would go back to methadone instead of taking all those pills a day and still have withdrawals. But that’s my opinion.

That makes no sense, I agree with p450.

I switched from methadone to fentanyl patch and Percocet with the help of my pain Mgmt dr. I had no problems and I had been on maintenance for 6 years. The only thing I can think is that methadone is long acting and Percocet isn’t. Maybe the long acting fentanyl patch would be better as it keeps a steady level in your system, like methadone. Good Luck

I would contact your dr. I don’t know why you where take the medicine methadone But your Dr. knows he would know best . I know methadone can be givin for pain so so... I would not want to talk Suboxon that is used for people who are an addict too many types of drugs as is Methadone. But like I said methadone can also be used for pain so that may be why they put you on Percocet so consult your doctor he will know best

Ok I’m not sure if this says it’s from 2011 but if it is it should not be on here because it says it was updated a month ago? Anyways if you are on Methadone then it’s because you have been addicted to street drugs of some kind. No doctor will put you on methadone here unless you have a history of drug usage. And what stupid doctors would take you from methadone to Percocet?? That must be what you want to do? Well they will not do it! You need to smarten up, I’m sure you're not that stupid to know that Percocet is a strong opioid and that methadone is to get you off stuff like Percocet. You need to grow up and stop wanting drugs for recreational use!!

It loves 4 days to have the methadone out of your system enough for another opioid to work. This also depends how your metabolism is as well if that was a high dose for your body. Otherwise methadone withdrawl is usually about 10 days if not taking any opiods

Re: Barry (# 10) Expand Referenced Message

Right. I took it for 5 years but only like 10 to 20 mgs. per day. I have a relative that takes like 300 mgs. per day PLUS about 800 mgs. of morphine. He say's that the methadone is the only thing that helps his pain, I have to laugh because that stuff never touched my pain. It does nothing for pain!! Doctors had been prescribing it for pain for the past 15 years or so but I don't they are anymore. I think my relative actually means is that it's the only thing that'll get him high. He's been on narcotics for 30 + years, so...I had withdraws from my light dose for about a month. The worst was the hot flashes and not being able to sleep, but I was on a light dose compared to most. In my opinion it should only be used to help people get off narcotics and only in light doses because anything more it just creates a high.

Very strange, but it just goes to show how different each of us is put together both physiologically and psychologically. I took high doses (can't remember the dosage but it was the maximum) for a few months and felt just a slight bit of discomfort after sudden w/d (went to work, carried on as usual etc) but experienced nothing at all like what you went through. If I were trained formally in medicine or pharmacology I could give you accurate advice but all my "college knowledge" was in a totally different area (and era). I have read and digested the standard pharmaccy academic texts Gilman and Goodman's "The Pharmcological Basis for Therapeutics," Remington's well-known tome, The Merck Index, etc, including over 50 (yes, fifty) years of my own "independent study" complete with personal notes, illustrations, charts, logs, photos, and horticultural texts.

That being said, I would either talk to a bona fide addiction expert, search through online peer-reviewed journal, such as PUBmed but, unless I misunderstood that you have no health care provider available (hard to believe in this day and age) and you are considering doing something rash that could hurt you, good old Valium has saved my ass more than once. Remember, it is safe (UNLESS MIXED WITH ALCOHOL or serious opioids) in a pinch. It won't make the heavens part and you won't be serenaded by cherubic beings, but it will take the edge off which can buy you some time to exhaust other tried and true remedies (rehab, addiction doctor) etc. BTY: I heard the FDA/DEA is re-reviewing pregabalin because of mounting complaints like yours. Best of luck.

There is a product called Clenz Blendz or Puri-blend tea, they sell it in GNC but it's not on the shelf, you have to ask for it. You drink it 3hrs before the test, it detoxes your body so you test clear. I've used it 5 times and every time I've tested clear. This might be something you could try.

Re: Barry (# 10) Expand Referenced Message

Sounds like u had a tolerance built up and needed a higher dose of methadone. Doctors can do a peak and through to see if you need a higher dose. I'm just a nurse who happens to be on methadone for pain. So I understand. If u need someone to talk to, feel free to write me back. {edited for privacy}. Even if u just need a non-judgemental friend. Take care.

Re: Stephen (# 22) Expand Referenced Message

I also take methadone for chronic pain. 110mg a day. I've found when taken in higher doses like this once a day, that my pain is mostly controlled. Yes, I have breakthrough pain and take medication for that, but my pain isn't nearly what it used to be. I also take adderall but forget often and end up with 40 leftovers a month. Lol. I'm also a nurse who works in a clinic where the patients come in and meet with the doctor/nurse/therapist/and groups. We give scripts to the patients for all meds, including methadone, so it isn't a conflict of interest for me to work there.

Re: Kady (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

Dont listen to these guys. Please I’m begging you, because it takes 30 days to quit withdrawals from methadone without any drug to help and it hurts in your bones, but it takes 44 days to quit withdrawals from suboxone and zubsolv the same and you will hurt 10 times as more coming off suboxone than methadone. Please just quit cold turkey. Be strong. But if you do take percocet to help your withdrawals it is only postponing your real withdrawals. I am a recovering addict. I’m 33. I started when I was 14 and I just don’t want you to listen to the other people. I’m just keeping it real and I promise you cold turkey sounds hard but if your honest with yourself and really do want to quit please just take it one minute at a time. Then you go one day at a time. Then before you know it you will be clean. It is hard but when your craving something please try this for me because I believe in you and anybody who can be strong enough to want to quit is stronger than anyone else on this planet. So do this when you’re craving, don’t take any other medicine, just look up to the sky or god (I believe in god but if you don’t just stop thinking about your withdrawals) and think of everything that you have been blessed with in life and everything that you are happy about. If that doesn’t work imagine all those kids at st. Judes that are dying with cancer and fighting for their life every day and here we are trying to hurt ourselves and cry and blame everyone else but ourselves. Sorry if that is offensive. Please just think of the great things you have in your life and if you don’t have great things then when your depressed and wanting to use, make your mind up to go out and get good things for your life. No other drugs will get you off drugs. {edited for privacy}. If you ever need a shoulder to lean on or an ear to listen I will love to help you. It’s easier than you know, trust me please.

Definitely you are going to feel the withdrawal symptoms of methadone even when you taking the Percocet because methadone is way more stronger than the Percocet that you're taking. You just need to stick it out take some 800 ibuprofen I'm just letting you know that I came off methadone and came down off of it from 70 mg a day I got taken down 2 mg every day and after that I came off pf it i couldn't eat, sleep, for 4 months for it was awful. I might get an hour here an hour there its worse 4 months of my life I'll never forget it ever and I had nothing else to take I couldn't get a prescription or anything. I had nothing to take so it was like cold turkey it SUCKED. I'M glad you have those Percocets and keep taking them if you have to take one and a half maybe that will help you but don't keep going up on the Percocets because you're going to have to come off are those eventually unless it's the pain management good luck God bless

Yeah Katie, I was kind of wondering about that when I read your first post. If you understand that if you don't have chronic pain to an extreme extent then you don't know we are looking for relief, not someone to preach at us like the government is right now. They give us some quality of life back then after a few years snatch it away. No you can't have quality of life. Wonder why? Our wonderful exciting government and different agencies of course. They think that if you're in that much pain then most likely you're on disability. that's like most ignorant people, they think disability is a drain on our society. well I've been paying since I was 11 years old working and getting a paycheck. I have paid for Social Security. This is not welfare, this is not a handout, but they would just assume that we just go ahead and die because there will be more so-called overdoses. The overdoses are actually more like suicides. Most families don't want suicide known outside of your family, especially certain religions not being able to bury their family member in consecrated ground. But suicides yep there will be a lot more suicides. People can only stand pain for so long. It's like being tortured every single hour, every single minute/second of the day. You have to find a doctor that will give you some quality of life back. A lot of your pain gone. Amazing science is a wonderful thing. You have a few years of quality of life participating with your family and all of a sudden it's snatched away and you no longer can have quality of life. It's possible but we as a government or we as a country have decided that it's best that you live in this torturous pain. Maybe you'll go ahead and commit suicide and no longer be a drain on our society. Am I being paranoid? Maybe, but most likely not. Have a lovely day Katie. I truly hope no matter my opinion of you and your opinions that you're not a chronic pain patient especially if it's to the extreme. I would not wish this on anyone. I would not wish this on my worst enemy.

NO! Ask about Clonidine!!!!! Many concerns exist aboug getting off Suboxone, usually far more painful that whatever you are getting off. Dr. Drew does not recommend it for replacement therapy, either. I heard something about trips to Europe and doctor's training to prescribe and treat with it.

R u freaking serious? 30 days withdrawal just from 1 or 2mg of methadone??? I just s*** my pants hearing that because im so not ready for 30 day withdrawal from methadone! S*** id rather go back on opiates aha because that withdrawal lasts like a week and nowhere as bad as methadone withdrawal. I'm getting so tired of this crap, literally. Feel like I have a damn ball and chain.

Look at an opiate equivalence chart. As long as you have the Percocet to take immediately upon cessation of the methadone you shouldn't experience any sickness. However mixing opiates with methadone is dangerous due to strong receptor binding affinity for both drugs and the long half-life and lipid solubility of methadone.

The withdrawal from methadone is probably the worst and longest of all opiates, and unlike most opiates is known to cause seizures during withdrawal. Oxycodone is bad too but that is more because of its high bioavailability and the fact that is has been shown to affect the nerve endings after habituated usage.
