Hysingla Experience

Updated

This is day 3 of me taking Hysingla 20mg after taking Norco 10/325mg three to four times a day. So far I've noticed some wacky side effects. The pill seems to kick in at around 8hrs, and I can't keep my eyes open, I get a rush of anxiety and nausea. I've taken EVERY other ER opiate in the world and none of them did this to me. I do notice that it has lessened my extreme pain already and I have taken a few norcos on top of it thru out the day, but the 8hr mark seems to be like a different world kicking in. Has anyone been on this for awhile, went thru these side effects and then came out the other end actually liking this med? I can find NOTHING on the internet regarding much experience or reviews out there on people who are taking this med. I've woken up in the middle of the night with abdominal pains, anxiety and an overall feeling of weird. Then it passes and I fall back to sleep, and I just feel so hungover. Also it's like every three hours or so it will ''kick in'' again with the can't keep my eye open thing, the nausea, etc. I started out the first two days not eating much (took away my will to eat) so today I made sure I ate a large meal before the 8 hr mark kicked in, but still feel so freaking weird! Please, can anyone out there give me some feedback?

I'm very sorry about the way you're feeling.

Hyslinga also contains Hydrocodone, just without the Acetaminophen and in a time released formulation. The FDA classifies this as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

There may be a change in the amount being released at about 8 hours in, which may be causing more side effects.

However, things should improve after 4 weeks, or so, as your body gets used to it. If your symptoms don't improve, or if they get worse, you should speak to your doctor as you may need to try a different medication.

Is anyone else on this medication that can chime in?

I decided to stick with it, and it's been about a week. I still get very tired, but overall my pain level is so much better. I've stopped the nausea, I do get dizzy (orthostatic) when I get up fast or something like that, but all in all things are getting better.
I still have pain and need breakthrough, and I'd be very scared to up the dose of this stuff and go through that whole intro period again.

I have just started taking this medicine. I was taking norco 10/325 4/day with tramadol in between. That worked great but my liver ALT started to inflate so they moved to morphine(which was horrible) then to the hysingla. For me, maybe my metabolism runs at a really high rate but it works really well when it first kicks in. Started taking it about 10pm so it works when I first wake up. It was the best I have felt when waking up in a long time. but it seems like in the afternoon it wears off for me (60mg er). So the evenings and going to sleep aren't as easy as they were with the previous regimen. Up to lnch it takes away most of the pain. It is really hard to get and more expensive than most medications. I have had pharmacists say they would not order due to the risk of addiction and abuse. I have had pharmacists say they would not order due to the obnoxious price it costs to get it (over $1000 for a bottle of 60 for the pharmacy to buy). I will be speaking with my DR on Friday to see maybe other options. Does anyone have any experience with vicoprofen and know if that may be an option?

Hi I'm on my third day of hysingla er and I too get that neauscious feeling a few times a day. 30 MLG. I have severevRa and it does help the pain. I have to admit I do miss the euphoric feeling of regular vicoprofin but I was taking too many. So this is definitely better for me. I plan on sticking with it.

I have been on vicoprofin off and on (mostly on) for about three years. Omg its highly addictive. The withdrawals are dreadful all I did was cry. I finally fessed up to my Dr because i kept running out of meds way too early. He put me on hysingla er 30 mg. Its not great but at least I don't have the ups and downs like with vicoprofin. The pain is better but definitely no euphoric feeling at all. I may ask him to up the dose but I'm going to give it a little time. Peace

I was on vicoorofin 7-325 about 6 pills a day. When I went through 120 in a month I knew I had a problem. I took two at a time three times a day. It helped my pain but I feel its highly addictive. So I told my doctor and he put me on hysingla er 30 MLG. Once a day. He also gives me 30 vicoprofin for breakthhrough pain. Its helped and I don't feel as addictive like with vicoprofin. Just be careful. Peace

Been on the 30 mg of Hysinglia for about a month. Doctor put me on it to try to lessen breakthrough pain, but it is not working at all. Was taking Norco 10/325 which were useless. Goin to ask her today to take me off the hysinglia and maybe try Percocet as she first suggested? Hysinglia just makes me nauseous all the time, have gained weight, but I don't know how since I am not even hungry. Thought this was supposed to kick in when pain was felt, but all it does is make me sleepy while I am trying to watch TV with my family. Just tired all the time. They need to go back and fix this as it does not provide 24 hrs of pain relief as advertised.

yes I was on vicoprofin off and for about 4 years, the problem is I got very addicted to it and was taking more to relieve the pain. I feel it does work better than vicodin and or Hysingla. I currently take hysingla er 40 mg. 1x day with 4 vicodin as breakthrough medication. Seems like a lot but the vicodin is a very low dose. I did feel that the vicoprofin worked better on emergent pain. Hope this helps.

First time on Hysingla ER and it is the worst med I have ever taken. I only stayed on for three days, but that was enough...hot flashes, nausea, drowsiness, out of it in general. After only three days, I experienced withdrawal symptoms when I stopped the medication. Terrible drug.

I had been on hydrocodone 10-325, 3or 4 for several years. I have had an allergic reaction to every long acting pain med my doctor tried so when Hysingla became available I asked my doctor if I could try it. I have been on 40 mg now for almost a month and feel terrible. It has helped with my back pain, but I am now experiencing more joint and bone pain then ever before. I also feel like I have the flu all the time, plus itching, rash earaches, can't eat and feeling drowsy and yet keep waking through the night. Overall I feel terrible and am going to stop today to see if these things go away and will call my doctor and inform him. I wanted this to work so badly but the trade of isn't worth it. I just don't understand because I thought it was pretty much the same as what I was taking. Feeling very discouraged!

Hi chronicbackpaingirl ,
I also was experiencing many problems with Hysingla in the beginning > see my other feed back here < . One thing I did do different was I starting taking it at night instead of the morning. I am now well into my second month and the pain relief is amazing for me. I still have to take 1 or 2 Norco's for breakthrough pain _ some days 0 . I am glad I hung in there because some of the things I thought were being caused by the drug turned out to be due to a infection from something else. I am having problems with constipation, but had that with the Norco as well and will work with my doctor on that. I only feel nausea occasionally now, I find I do better with eating small amounts throughout the day rather then large meals. But the bottom line is I now have better pain control and a sense of freedom from constantly watching the clock for my next dose_ I now have days I can actually do things without the constant interruption from pain. I am sorry that you are having so many problems on it and wondered if it has gotten any better for you? Wishing you the best~

I have been taking Hysingla ER 60 mg now for 2 days. I have not had any side effects other than it is just now at 0700 on day 2 making me feel a rush of pain relief. I am extremely drowsy bit cannot fall asleep. I laid in bed all night last night with my eyes closed but zero sleep. I was previously on Norco 10/325 qid. For almost 4 years. Started this horrific back injury journey 9 almost 10 year's ago. I am not taking any other medications for breakthrough pain. But I seem to get the same rush aka high as I did with the Norco. Maybe your dose isn't high enough. Dr. Started me on 60 mg due to my tolerance for the hydrocodone. Might ask about that.

I'm having a terrible time with this drug. They started me on 40mg and I suffered severe headaches and much more. I felt stoned. I hate it. Just changed to 30mg. The headaches are awful. I understand why the doc wants to change to hysingla, but I was so much better functioning with 4 10 MG Norco. This sucks.

I've been on the hysingla er 20 for 1 month. Well for the last 3 weeks ive had the worst headache ever and nausea every minute of every day. Even ended up in ER over a week ago for the headache and nausea. After reading all the comments and the side affects, im not taking this stuff anymore. Ive lost over 20 lbs. Not good when I was only 130 to begin with. I dont eat. And I hurt worse now then I did before. This hysingla is horrible.

SAME, I have never been SO miserable in my life. I felt like I was in withdraw too. I had been taking methadone for long lasting pain w/ 10 mg. Hydrocodone 3 times a day. Mind you I have severe pain having Spondolothesis, stenosis, scoliosis, arthritis and a fracture in my back. My legs and back ached SO bad all month long on this. I have been off the methadone for 3 mos so no withdraw from that anymore. I felt severely depressed and anxious, almost like I felt doomed in a way, dreadful. Like I was absolutely miserable on this crap. It seems like it takes around 10 to 14 hours to kick in and the only way I can tell, as the pain doesn't ease up, it's that I start feeling weird. My head feels full like I'm on speed or something, can't sleep well, have a rash on upper arms and my urine barely comes out. I read somewhere that these kind of meds are full of glue. I decided I'd dissolve one in some water, to see how long it took to dissolve. Never dissolved, it swelled to the size of a huge nickel and to about 3/4" thick! I took a fork to see what the consistency was and OMG, it was the stickiest, stringiest crap ever- like glue, went back and checked it after it dried and it was like that tacky glue they use in retail packaging or to hang pictures, it wadded up just like that stuff and the ball was about 2" around in size!!! Unbelievable this crap is on the market. WAY overpriced too. DO NOT waste your time and money trying this for severe pain. Absolutely did not touch my pain and made me feel depressed, doomed, and anxious. It was the 10 mg. I'd rather suffer in pain than feel like this again, can't wait til it's completely out of my system. Still feel weird and haven't taken one in 36 hours.

I have been on narco 10/325 for about 15 years now in combination with whatever was out there to help reduce my pain. I am now 72 with osteoporosis, degenerative joint disease, complications from an auto accident, and more. Fentanal patches almost killed me. Over the past five years I was on OxyContin, with hydrocodone which worked well but began to slowly fade out. My Pain Specialist changed me to hysingla about six months ago and it is now working great for me. It took a little time to adjust my medications so they would work best for me. I now take hydro 10/325 3X a day at 8am, 2pm, and 10pm and hysingla ER 30mg two times a day at 8am,and 10pm which seems to balance effectiveness of each. My pain level holds around 6 to 7 with spikes as high as 9 at times but not that often. I can take another hydro if needed to reduce the pain but try not to. My life is better now with a tolerable pain level. I very seldom go to a 6 even with bed rest and know this is for the rest of my life. I hope this might help someone with similar problems.

Hi all, I was on oxycotin twice a day, with Percocet 10 mg for breakthrough pain. I was on this combination for a few years. After receiving a letter from my insurance company stating they are no longer covering oxycontin for anyone anymore, and they recommend Hysingla. I took the letter to my Dr. He had not heard of it, my pharmacy had not heard of it, etc. That was a little scary to me that no one has heard of it. The last time I saw my Dr he prescribed Hysingla 60 mg, with Norco for breakthrough pain. This is by far the best drug that has ever worked for me. It lasts the full 24 hours for me. I take it in the morning with my coffee. It doesn't make me feel tired at all, in fact the oxycontin did make me feel tired. I am able to do more now, go places with hubby, I feel like I have a good quality of life back. I have no side effects from it at all. Getting that letter was the best thing that could have happened to me, because I never would have heard of Hysingla if I hadn't. My Dr. did some research, if you're on a high dose of your previous medication then you'll need a higher dose of Hysingla. To find out just call your insurance. I was on 30 mg of oxycontin before, so 60 mg of Hysingla is workable. I may ask to go up to 80 mg. I've been on the Hysingla for 2 weeks now, I'm willing to give it a chance. I find if I take it in the morning, then a Norco when I go to bed it carries me through the night. The other bonus is I have slept better in the last 2 weeks than ever before. For those of you getting on it give it a shot, it works for me, and I have a friend who was recently put on it, he has no complaints either. It works better then any medication out there that's long term.

Re: jonepal (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

I know this is an older post, but for the sake of a return visit, or anyone scrolling through & stumbling across it down the road, like myself, I'll answer what I'm familiar with (as far as the Vicoprofen).

I used Vicoprofen several years ago, as an alternative to regular Vicodin. I Can't Remember (Why) I Switched to it, or from it, back to Vicoden/Lortab, but it Worked Well for Me. The Difference between the Two Are Simply: Vicodin/Norco= Tylenol, and/or Motrin. Hence, Vico(profen), Vicodin with Ibuprofen. Not Sure Why Vicodin isn't called Vicolenol, but Hopefully You Get the Gist of it. For Me Personally, I Like Tylenol for Certain Types of Pain (Non-Inflammatory), and Motrin for Other Types ie: (Menstrual Pain, Joint Pain from Inflammation). These Days I Use Norco 10/325, with Motrin 800.

Thank you so much for your positive post! I just took my first 30 mg Hysingla today, and I took it right when I got it at 1:30 today. But if that doesn’t work out I will take your advice and try taking it at night. I am only wanting to read positive posts as I’m hoping this new med. helps me.

I've been taking Hysingla for about 8 months now. I have very few problems with it and it seems to help my back pain. I do take Norco 5/325 twice daily for breakthrough pain. The one that I do notice is that it takes maybe 5 or 6 hours before the Hysingla starts to work. I pleased with it, taking it only once in 24 hours is a plus. I have no complaints. I wish you the best with this medication.

I have been on hysingla w Norco 10's twice a day for break thru pain. I haven't had any extreme side effects or pain relief either. It is a time release hydrocodone, which is the same ingredient as in Norco. Hysingla has no added tylenol. Lortab was hydrocodone w 500mg of tylenol, Norco is lortab only w less tylenol, 325mg. Hysingla works vert subtly on me. I have to supplement it w ibuprofen. The break through medicine isn't enough either. I exercise, and ice my back. I practice meditation. I know Alabama is suffering from an opioid epidemic as dr. Are prescribing the highest per pt. In the country. I feel I can't ask for an increase in hysingla 30 mg. As in your situation I might get ALL my medicine discontinued. I hope u can find a better long acting med for ur pain.
