My husband has a prescription for hydrocodone 5/500. How often can he take it for back pain? Like every 4 hours? Or 6 hours or what? He doesn't use it much and can't remember the frequency. Thank you for any help!

This is a generic for Vicodin or Lortab, which contains Acetaminophen and Hydrocodone and the directions are usually to take it every 4 to 6 hours, as needed.

Since it has the Acetaminophen in it, there is also usually the caveat in the directions to not exceed 8 of them in any 24 hour period and not to combine it with any other medications containing Acetaminophen.

Learn more Vicodin details here.

How is he feeling?
