Hydrocodone After Surgery

Updated

I have had two surgeries and on hydro.10mg|325 tabs. I have winged myself down to 1 every 12 hours. Ive noticed that after about 9 hours it seems like im catching a cold. I push myself to go the 12 hours. Once i take the med. im fine. I have probably been on them fo 3 months.. Really i may need a smaller dose but ill try taking maybe about 5 ibuprofen's for a little while. Is there a easier way to taper down, how can i taper down or do i just have to crawl under the sheets and die. I hate these pills, don't want something else controlling me.

Sounds like you have been on them a while, The reason you feel like you have a cold is that your waiting to long to take one, if you want to tapper down start with the dose you were on, then your next dose wait an additional hour and so on. Your tappering down to fast and your waiting to long for the next dose. I hope this helps you.

I also wanted to ad that if you take to many Ibuprofen's that could cause you to have burning or upset stomach.
so you also should be very careful not to take to many of those.Your hydrocodone also has eiither tylenol or Ibuprofen in it so taking 5 extra on top of the other is also not good for you. Just be very careful as to how much you take,.

I have on them for 4 months. after surgery, was on 1 every 4 hours, then went to two 1 every 6 hours, then 8, then 10, then 12. as of last night i stopped taking them at 3am. IM having a rough time now, almost 10 now and 3 more hours will be 24 hours. after reading your post i can see i didn't do this right.guess im cold turkey now! i must be highly addicted. since ive went cold turkey now do you know how long these symptoms will last. WOW THIS IS TOUGH!!! i am 49 years old trying to do the right thing.... Another problem now is a lot of the pain is back but will deal with that later,,,,,sorry for the misspelling im shaking some and..............

To the best of my knowledge (and I'm not a doctor, though I have some experience in the matter) the worst of it should be over in about two weeks (possibly four or five days), though I suppose that depends on how high of usage you have maintained and for how long. You should be more or less completely over the withdrawals in a month or so. It's not a fun experience though.

There's also the taper off approach but that really only helps if you have access to more hydrocodone (or any other opiate). However in most cases if you had access to more you wouldn't be in withdrawals in the first place.

If the above suggestions aren't an option then being miserable for a while until it does subside is your best bet. I;m so sorry i couldnt help more , I will pray for your speedy recovery and fast withdrawl. If it gets to bad please try to get out patient help in a substance withdrawl center where they can place you on medication to help the withdrawl experience.
God Bless.

Have you spoken to your doctor about this?

They should have ideas to help you discontinue the medication and minimize the withdrawal effects.

In addition, you really do need to be very careful taking that much Ibuprofen, at once. As has already been mentioned, it cause severe stomach issues, including severe ones like Gastritis. On top of that, it can cause elevated blood pressure and fluid retention, which may cause congestive heart failure.

Have you tried getting your doctor's assistance?
