I am finishing a 7 day dose of clindamycin 300 mg taken once every 8 hours on Friday, which leaves me with no weekend coverage if dental infection isn't gone. My dentist told me yesterday that it can remain in my system for awhile, is this true? If so, for how long?

Hello, Jana! How are you?

Yes, that is correct.

However, how is the infection doing? If the antibiotic is working, there should be no worsening after being on it for a full 24 hours and you should start to see some improvement after taking it for a full 3 days.

The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

Any antibiotic can give upset stomach and diarrhea. If u feel like you have a heart attack then u should go to the hospital. An antibiotic won't give u a heart attack, but it can still give you an allergic reaction. You can also develop C diff, a bacterial infection in your colon after taking antibiotics which needs treatment.

One simple question: How long will Clindamycin 300 mg remain in my system once I stopped taking it? Since taking this I ended up in the ER for pain in my jaw, across my back & a little chest pain. I experienced the jaw pain a few more times and it also still feels like a thickness or swollen feeling in my neck & throat but not like it's closing. My EKG & blood work were all fine. I'm a 56 yr old female, 114 lbs, never smoked, blood pressure always on the low side 110/60. Bottom line, to be safe I am now seeing a Cardiologist to have an Echocardiography & an Echo Stress test scheduled. I have NEVER felt like this before taking this pill & I will NEVER take it again.

I have just finished taking bactrim and clindamycin for 20 days for an abscess I had. I'm all healed now and finished the antibiotics two days ago. Now my feet itch like crazy. Is this a normal thing when you stop taking these two antibiotics together?

I was taking 300mg of Clindamycin 4 times a day, every 6 hours for 7 days, for a tooth infection. When I was finished with my antibiotic I asked my dentist and a pharmacist how long this remains in your system for. And I was told by both that it remains in your body for 1 month.

You may have a serious life threatening dental infection in your sinus, salivary glands and facial bone. See an ENT specialist

That clindomycin is very strong medicine. It will stay with you for awhile. I had that for a dental infection too. It put me in the hospital. Make sure you take Culturelle probotics. Clindomycin kills everything in your digestive tract. Be careful.
