How Long Does Suboxone Stay In Your Body

Updated

Lets get this straight suboxones are NOT an opiate it will not show up on a drug test as one they either have to test sepritly for it useally only probation drug tests have suboxone on it most jobs will not test for it because its exspensive an the only reason courts an probation test for it is because people are always messing things up for the rest of us because peoole in jail were getin high on then n people were abusing them well on probation thinking they wouldnt ketch on so now its ruined for they rest of us but the point is its NOT an opiate n jobs usally dont test for it

Suboxone is an opioid agonist/antagonist which means it acts on the mu recepetor just as other opiates but at the same time it blocks other opiates. This is why if you are on a drug like Methadone and you take Suboxone it will lead to severe withdrawal symptoms. Suboxone has a strong affinity to the mu receptor which in layman terms means it has a long effect on your system. Suboxone blocks the effects of opiates, that is the antagonistic property of the drug, while at the same time it binds to the mu receptor stimulating some opiate like effects. In short if you are addicted/dependent on another opioid/opiate do not take Suboxone until you detox from the first or at least bring down your dose so that the Suboxone can "go over" the effect of the drug you are addicted or dependent on.
It takes a specific test to detect Suboxone in your urine, however the test is routinely included in drug tests which are several panel tests. Depending on dose and the length of time taken, Suboxone can stay at the detectable level for 2 weeks or more.
Lab testing for compliance to a pain regimen or a substance abuse regimen (Methadone or Suboxone) will include tests for Suboxone whereas drug tests for employment usually do not. If you have a test coming up you can purchase a drug test from Amazon.com for $2 and if you show positive when you wish to have a negative test try to come up with some kind of ruse to avoid the test or cheat if necessary. Most labs use temperature sensitive testing specimen bottles but even these can be beat, The temperature of urine is between 94 and 98 degrees, using a clean sample of urine stored in a small air tight container and then transported to the lab in a good thermos (to maintain temperature) in a bath of water at 98 degrees should work. Use a digital thermometer for accurate readings and this should work. Make a couple of test runs taking into account the time it takes to get to the lab and the loss of temp to the sample, you should be able to come up with the best temp to keep the bath up to for the best results.

One can pass a drug test...place the clean urine in a pill bottle...watch out some placeswill not take it if there's not a certain amount. But usually it works for employers. Just put the pill bottle in ur underpants right next to ur skin. It will be warm enough.

I quit 4 mg/day cold turkey on dec. 5 and was in the bed until the 20th. It was all I could do to bathe. The withdrawal was longer and much worse than the meds I was trying to avoid. Although i know Suboxone has really helped a lot of people, I don't think it was right for me. I still have enough suboxone in my system to make me freeze all the time and sneeze like crazy. The suboxone website is really vague about how long a person should take suboxone but dr. Drew freaks if a person takes it for 2 1/2 MONTHS. I was on it for FOUR years! You really have to do your research on the doctor you choose or it's just a huge hassle and a racket. And I truly believe my doctor is no better than a shady drug dealer on the corner! Oh yeah, the recommended a 60 week taper! Really, over a year? And I'm sure I would've had to pay $120/mo. For office visits those 60 weeks. It's not about helping patients; it's about money. I know I sound angry and I am but I think that anger helped me through it.

I know exactly what you mean and I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with sneezing fits. I quit in June, supposedly with help from a pain clinic. He prescribed 10 mg hydrocodone, which still wasn't getting past the Sub in 90 days. That is ridiculous. So, he prescribes a new class 2 drug that is apparently covered in Kryptonite and there is no way to tell if it's getting through or not. I know one thing, it is not helping the depression I have spiraled into since I quit the Sub. Frankly, I don't think you ever get over it if you take it long term. Word of this needs to be go out so patients can decide if they want to do it 3-6 months (wish I had done that) or stay on it for the rest of their lives.

I just dropped dirty for opiates being on Suboxone. I take 8mg twice a day, and have been for a couple months. Yes, you'll test positive for opiates taking Suboxone.

I found an article by an addiction dr who really gets it. It can be found at addictionpro.com/article/suboxone - concerns behind the miracle. I have been off Sub for 4 months now and it is finally getting a little easier. I have good days and bad days; I'm taking baby steps. The dr who wrote the article talks about how Suboxone blocks a person's feelings and a higher does will make you practically numb. I completely agree with this. I was on it or 5 years and my family and friends kept telling me I had changed. I did not enjoy ANYTHING, Just getting out of bed took every bit of energy I had. Everyone is different, but I had other side effects also and I am so glad to be off of it I thank God every day.

Actually there is an opiate in Suboxone but it does not show up on standard employment drug tests as you mentioned. The opiate is buprenorphine 8 or 4 mg depending on the strip used and the blocker is naloxone. When in the body the naloxone prevents the opiate from bind to receptors but makes the body think it got its dose of opiate. When testing they are bonded together and don't show up on a normal urine test, but as you pointed out there are special teats for it usually in the court systems.

Suboxone is too an opiate...Bupe is a very powerful opiate..It is a PARTIAL AGONIST....The Naloxone is what blocks other opiates..If you take just bupe by itself it IS consider for pain management..And is ten times stronger than morphine...Please I encourage you to research it as YOUR giving incorrect info...I am a registered pharmacist..Please do your homework...

That is true companies don't test for Suboxone, but make no mistake; once you are hooked on it you might as well be trying to come off heroine.

Hi Sammy! I'm on 24mg of suboxone a day. My doctor does a panel test in his office to make sure I'm testing positive for it. However, he also sends my urine out to a lab to check the levels. I see him every 3 months.( I get refills in between.) I was sick one day recently and vomited up my suboxone no sooner than I put it in my mouth. I didn't want to take more after that because i was afraid of messing up my levels and being a day short on the suboxone. I have a great relationship with my doctor and have always been a model patient. You sound very knowledgable about this so I thought I would ask for your input. Do you think I'll be ok? It will make a little over a month until I see my doctor again.

Re: PharmacistDirector (# 14) Expand Referenced Message

No ur very wrong my fiance was on them for 3 yrs and had to take probation urine test every mth. And never failed once. It's a separate special expensive test. So unless anyone testing u suspects u of using it. They don't test u and it's not a opiate. I'm beyond sure of this. Because he passed every test for everything. And it's not a partial agonist. I'm a 100 percent sure of this. I got my information from a actually Suxboxane doctor.

Doing a slow tapper off Suboxone is the best way to avoid withdrawal. 1 mg per month withdrawal until 2 mg and then a half mg. per month withdrawal. At the end you might want to do one quarter mg per day and then get off. It will work but there will be some discomfort. Hang in there.

Yes very true...Actually one of the active ingredients in Suboxone (bupenorphine) is an opioid but does NOT come up in routine drug tests under opiates. There's a specifically rendered test for used that actually tests for bupe. It has a very long half life (36-40 hours) So it will still be actively in your blood stream for 1-3 days which if given a specific test for sub's you will Only test+ for bupenorphine not opiates.
