How Long Does Naproxen Stay In Your System?

I have consulted with someone in my family who is a doctor, I sprained my wrist and got a brace. And they told me the best thing to take is an anti-inflammatory called Naproxen. How long does Naproxen stay in someone's system.

I found a bit of mixed information regarding this. Some sources state that the elimination half-life of naproxen is approximately 15 hours, thus it is expected to be out from your system in 30 hours; while other sources tell me that it generally stays in your system for up to 72 hours.

This information however is also dependent on the user's lifestyle, like weight, age, diet, exercise habits, whether or not your are taking other medications as well, etc. Based on the above information it would be safe to assume that Naproxen would be out of the system in a few days time (or less if the user is an active individual with a healthy diet).

My remaining naproxen tabs are 1-2 years out of date. Are they still effective? Or should I request a new prescription?

As with anything, whether it be drugs, food or drink, you should not take them if they are out of date. The date is on the packet for your safety, and you could experience more adverse effects from taking out of date medication.

Also some medications can begin to loose their effectiveness passed the expiration date, so it would be best in your case to just request a new prescription given the length of time it has been out of date. However, if you'd really like to be certain about the pills degradation, you would have to take them to a lab and have them tested for quality. I don't know how to go about that procedure, but I am sure it will be cheaper and less stressful to just get a refill. Hope this helps!

I'm having an epidural spinal injection tomorrow morning, I took two Aleve this morning after running 8.5 miles. Will it be safe for me to get the injection? I have drank a lot of Gatorade ane water since taking the Aleve.

Hi, I've just read your post I'm having the same epidural injection in Monday (4 days) and I've just read the letter from the hospital and it states I should have stopped my naproxen 7 days prior to injection!! Really don't want to cancel it! Do you think I'll be ok?? Xx

I have been taking naproxin for 7 days at 2 a day..my heart rate has gone up to 115 beats per minute at rest...I have stopped taking these..how long will they stay in my system? Was this caused from this drug...should I get checked out and how long should I wait?

The SAME thing happened to me. I went to the ER thinking I was having heart trouble. I stopped taking Naproxen 3 days ago, and still feel "off" from it. What a horrible drug!

The same thing has happened to me. I have a herniated disc and this drug has caused my heart rate to speed up, nervousness, muscle weakness, headaches and ear ringing. I was on it for more than 3 weeks. I stopped taking it 4 days ago and I'm still not back to normal. I wish that I had never taken this drug.

I've took naproxen for 5 days then on and off for the next week (less than what doctor sugested). My hair has been falling out (very distressing) I can feel my heart beat, ringing in ears, constantly need to urinate, am jittery an nervous and have stomach issues. It is only just subsiding (but will need to wait for my hair to grow back) and that's days after my last pill. So the effects can carry on for a while even though everyone is saying it's out o your system in 24 hours. I will never take this drug again. It has been horrendous. Please let others know. There are other ways to deal with pain.

My fiancée took naproxen that was prescribed to her. It caused a schizophrenic reaction. It's been 2 weeks now since her last dose and she is still suffering from this reaction. I read the effects of naproxen can last for a week or so but. How long does this drug circulate in your system for?

Hi sorry to hear of your experience. This drug is really awful, and something so strong is not necessary as the side effects massively outweigh the benefits. It takes a while to leave the system so don't panic but always helpful to see a doctor. However, my doctor said it 'leaves in 24 hours' which is clearly not true as I experienced symptoms for at least 10 days after. A parallel: if you get punched, the fist is on your for a split second, but the effects last much longer!

I just took alleve for past five days, stopped yesterday. Feeling like I am going to die. Cold sweats nausea have not eaten for three days my skin hurts and I have not been awake for more than an hour at a time in past two days. Thought was getting flu at first. I don't think I can do this for another 72 hours.

I took Aleve for about two weeks and I got all the horrible symptoms, constipation, nausea, aches and pains. I stopped about 7 days ago and still feel horrible.

Same thing happened to me. My heart rate shot up and I thought I'm having a heart attack. Got so dizzy I felt like passing out. Was with a friend who was just as scared as I. Read about all the side effects of this drug. Well I'm experiencing a few, still scared. I'm having my doctor check me out. All I can say is if u are my age (67) and actively healthy this drug will scare the s*** out of you. Never listened to a friend. That is what I did.

I was prescribed naproxen 250mg on thursday on friday i started feeling anxious gradually its got worse !! I keep thinking a group are after me !! I hate going out and am on edge when i do ! I hate being alone ! In extremly nervouse and irratant in public always looking for an escape route , i havent slept properly since friday and im now in thursday and tonight i had a very realistic. Nightmare , hallucinations and every bang is making me shake!!! in result iv been pacing the house since 3:58am checking the house is secure i feel like im going crazy !! Spoke to the doc today and they confirmed its the naproxen and gave me propananol for anxiety !! Iv stopped taking naproxen today how long until i feel better again ???

Be patient. Doctors may say it leaves your system in 24 hours but I had residual problems for at least a week after. take comfort in that you know what caused your reaction and try to relax. Be careful being prescribed something else as well, check the side effects of the new drug you're taking.

I hope i will be better in a week or so the propananol is for the anxiety it does take the edge off but not the thoughts away which is worrying.

Was on Naproxen nearly a week for pinched nerve. It helped the nerve but started experiencing the awful side effects. Bloating, gassy & jittery. Thought I was having heart attack symptoms or a panic attack until I read all the posts. This is and awful drug. Will deal with the pain next time.

Hi, I took Vimovo for only 2 days which contains Naproxen. I took 2 pills a day..I am off of this pill for 2 days now. I was getting severe stomach issues, headaches, constipation, you name it, I got it!!! Would anyone know that since I've been off the pills for 2 days now, how long these 4 pills that I took linger in your system?. Would it be safe to drink alcohol?

I took there naproxen sodium pills yesterday to ease a toothache. I took a urine drug test today and failed for meth. I have not done any types of drugs and have only also taken 600 mg ibuprofen today and tylenol. Has anyone ever failed a drug test when taking these and how long does it at at in your system

I looked this info up on naproxen and how long it stays in your system and it says 93.5 hours or over 3 days (3.9 days) almost 4.

I was prescribed naproxen for menstrual cramps. I had the ablation done over 1 year ago and have had severe cramps. The naproxen seems to help alittle but then I start to feel bloated and get severe stomach pain. It's so severe that it hurts to move or breathe. I will be trying to find something else to take because I cannot continue with the naproxen!

Don't worry, I felt anxiety too, hot flashy, sweaty palms out of nowhere. I felt weird after second dose. I'm off it now and seeing sounds of improvement but I will not take this med again.

I had surgery on my hand and was prescribed naproxen for pain. It worked for the pain, unfortunately it also caused some stomach distress and bad gas. I had a hard time eating. I felt like I couldn't leave the house because I needed to be close to the bathroom because of the diarrhea. I stopped naproxen after 3 days and I'm still having symptoms 3 days later. I will be happy when it all finally leaves my system. Be careful while taking this, it may help for pain but the side effects are worse than the relief
