Hi Chel,

Just so you know, if you were prescribed this medication then you don't need to worry about testing positive for it. Presenting proof of your prescription prior to the tests will be enough to get you by.

To answer your question though, it really depends on how much, how long and how often you were taking it. Most pharmacists consider that after 3-5 "half-lives," close to 90% of the drug has been eliminated and is no longer affecting the body. The maximum wait to achieve five half-lives for Vicodin would be 5 x 3.8 half-life = 19 hours.

I'd suggest giving yourself about a full week or so leeway with the amount you took. Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables while staying hydrated throughout the day will significantly help your body detox quicker and speed up your waiting time. Besides getting plenty of rest each night I'd also recommend getting at least an hour each day of exercise in to help sweat out any toxins and get your lymphatic system flowing (which will aid in detoxification as well).

I have severe anxiety, and have been self-medicating with opiates (about 15 milligrams of hydrocodone daily for 6 months). I am aware that this isn't ideal, and once I have a prescription for some anti depressants and some valium or xanex I will completely stop self medicating.
