Codeine is usually clear from your urine within about 3-4 days, regardless of how long you have been taking it. However, quitting cold turkey may be a bad idea. Depending on your general health (blood pressure, heart condition, etc.), it could be dangerous. This is not to say you shouldn't quit! It is just safer to taper off. Unfortunately, this will lengthen the period of time you "crave" the drug. Detox is tricky and can be very unpleasant. The longer you have been using and the higher the dosage used (sounds like you've been using quite a bit), the more severe the symptoms are liable to be.Many people experience severe runny nose, chills, shaking, muscle aches and stomach cramps. I strongly recommend you get assistance with this process. At least, don't try to go through it alone.

Hi All. I have been Codeine dependent for about 10 years. Most of that time has been in the employ of the Mining Sector. My daily intake of Codeine (in the form of Panadeine Extra) peaked at about 200mg. Every drug test I took was a non-negative, but I kept my job as I declared it, and it isn't a banned substance in Australia. The use of Codeine for this length of time, and at this dose has destroyed my teeth and appetite, so the self esteem got a beating as well - I was on the road to a more serious and rapid decline. I decided enough was enough, and went off them cold turkey - OK, maybe not the ideal approach, but I believed, after researching, the amount I was taking was moderate compared to others that did not succeed. I also braced myself for the withdrawal. First 3 days were a nightmare - the restlessness and insomnia were at their peaks. Other than a few stomach pains and diarrhea, that was about the worst of my physical symptoms of withdrawal. It's now been 2 weeks and I feel a lot better for it. The money I save from not buying the OTC meds will, one day, get the teeth done, and I'm looking forward to passing a drug test for once. If anyone out there is struggling with this type of addiction, you can beat it, but as my current success was initiated by a sudden stop, which isn't preferred, go and see a GP. Don't be afraid to share your story or come clean about it - we are all human, and there are others in the same boat.

I also took one Tylenol #3 with codeine on a Monday night and had a urine drug test done on Tuesday morning.was informed that I popped up positive for opiates (which I knew I would) but I also popped up positive for high concentration of morphine. I was informed that this could happen. I looked this up and yes it could happen.

I have been taking tylenol with codeine for 4 days and 2 pills each day, so that would be 16mg of codeine... My Dr did a surprise urine test and I was wondering what will show up because I read that codeine comes up as morphine in a urine test... With such a small amount will I be under the cut-off level?
