Heart Ablation

Updated

I had radio frequency ablation twice due to having A fib. The first one was performed Dec. 2015. It made my palpitations less frequent and lighter. The only sign of A fib after the first procedure was I could just be sitting in a chair and I would get short of breath as if I could not get enough air. Sometimes no palpitations at all. I had second procedure Feb. 2016. I went off the Multaq April 15th. Wore a heart monitor from June 13 to July 13, 2016. Just got the results July 26th. I am A-fib free. I am overjoyed with the news. I have had Paroxymal A fib for six years. I planned all vacations by searching for hospitals in case I had to go to ER for conversion. It has been a journey. So if you have A Fib you might consider having an ablation. I stayed overnight in hospital rested at home for a few days and got on with my life. I don't regret having the procedure at all. I am 66 and have hypertension also. The procedure is expensive but I had Medicare and Blue Cross Federal. Both procedures did not cost me a cent. I am truly grateful for good insurance. So please if you can afford it, think about Radio Frequency ablation. Good health and happiness to you all.

Wow! I am so very glad that you found a solution that worked for you! That's awesome!

These medications can potentially cause some serious side effects, according to the U.S. FDA, which may include liver and kidney damage, or failure.

However, I would also like to make sure that everyone is aware that high blood pressure can also cause a-fib and palpitations, so sometimes, it is simply a matter of getting it under control and all symptoms will disappear, though this is not always the case.

Is there anything I can help with?

Verwon, I have hypertension on Metoprolol 100 milligrams twice a day plus a clonidine transdermal patch that I change out weekly. I have blood pressure spikes every now and then. Last one was 180/110. To keep from going to the emergency room they gave me clonidine tabs to take when the blood pressure gets over 170 on the top. I have not been in the emergency room in almost 2 years by doing this. I am 100 pounds overweight and have been trying to get it off. In the past three months I have fluctuated up-and-down 5 pounds. On 1400 calories a day. Guess I will cut to 1200 and try to move a little more to see if it will start dropping. It is a constant battle it seems. Good health to you.
