i was recently diagnosed with adult adhd and experienced the same problem. My dr wanted to prescribe me Vyvanse b/c I have insomnia w/o taking any meds and most of the stimulants keep you up but Vyvanse wears off around 8 hrs or so. Anyway, blue cross blue shield said I was "too old" to be prescribed the medicine and needed to get a pre-authorization. The pharmacist told me they usually take a long time to approve it. I went back to my pdoc and she gave me Focalin instead. They don't cover this either but the generic was only $45 vs the Vyvanse which was $205. I only took it for one day so far but I don't feel any difference. just the fact that I was super tired and slept most of the day. I am so angry at the fact that my dr. who knows my symptoms and history wanted to prescibe something that would probably be best for me but b/c of the insurance she had to have me settle for this other med. I don't have any advice on how to get them to cover the meds only wanted to share that I feel your frustration. If you find out an answer please repost. I will do the same :-(
