I also have this port in my abdomen and want to have liposuction and or a tummy tuck, I look so out of proportion, it has destroyed my self-esteem and it's not in my head. It's noticeable to everyone, make doctors don't seem to understand or tell me not to think about it. Dies ANYONE know if I can still have liposuction or even a mini tummy tuck. I know this would allow me to feel so much better about myself but because I'm a thin person elsewhere they don't take me seriously. I'm in remission but they want to keep it there because it was so hard to put in. I haven't consulted a plastic surgeon yet, was hoping to get some preliminary answers/advice.

Hello, I am very sorry about everything you've been through and the issue that you're still having. I do understand how awful that would be to your self-esteem.

However, it is very doubtful that any surgeon would be willing to do such surgery, with the port in place. There would be a lot of extra risks involved and potential complications. It could create another infection risk and complicate your recovery, as well.

It would likely be best to wait.

Congrats on beating the cancer!! That's something to smile about itself! :-)

Is there anything else I can help with?

Dear Verwon,

Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply, I suffered a setback and am just getting back into the swing of things. Yes you are correct, no one wants to go near me! I wish I didn't see or feel it all of the time, it hurts still and the lymph nodes get really swollen after activity which is apparently what's causing my enlarged or swollen abdomen. It is better than the alternative, they tell me this is my last placement so I suppose I need to focus on more substantive things (it still makes me feel unattractive), but I also know there is way too much focus on women's bodies. I'm a petite and fairly fit (illness has reduced my workouts a bit) and my hubby thinks I'm cute, scars and all, but more importantly I do have inner beauty, if I may say so myself! I'm tough and I'm going to keep beating this lousy disease. Thanks for your support, GOD BLESS!
