Help! Need Pain Doctor Near Shreveport, La For Opiates/other Meds

Updated

Hi, it is so sad to see so many of us suffering needlessly due to ignorance! PLEASE HELP, ANYONE WHO KNOWS OF A PAIN MANAGEMENT DOCTOR IN SHREVEPORT/BOSSIER CITY AREA (or within a couple of hours) who will help as I have moved here from California and desperate to find a caring pain doctor! It took SIXTEEN doctors and about 8 years of HELL to finally find a medication regime that helps my extreme chronic pain from two serious car accidents and several bad slip and falls. Quick list: Extreme FMS, herniated disks, spinal cysts, stenosis, spondylosis, arthritis, osteoporosis, nerve impingement, neuritis/neuropathy, massive inflammation throughout, for about 12 years have been taking methadone 10 mg, norco for breakthrough, soma for muscle spasm, neurontin for nerve pain. Have not increased doses, just trying to continue have some quality of life, without meds literally cannot move. Literally feels like my skin and spine are on fire and someone is stabbing my neck, back in several places with a hot searing poker. NEED HELP ASAP as I am going to run out very soon and so far no luck and really don't need withdrawals on top of the rest of my problems, way too numerous to list here. I do get shots (triggers, blocks) when I can afford them but not only do they not really work I have no insurance since becoming disabled and losing my job and am cash pay and unable to afford them very often. I have tried not taking the meds off and on over the years as I HATE needing them, but the excruciating pain always leads me back as I can do nothing without them. Please help, thank you.

I did take cymbalta for several years and it did ease some of the pain so I could take 1/2 measures of meds on some days, but unfortunately I began to have severe heart problems from it and had to go off of it. I have also taken large doses of ibuprofen for many years and have had to back off as it was causing a lot of problems with stomach pain. I have Crohns and don't need any more stomach pain. Sigh. It is a CRIME that people who suffer so much already should be made to suffer needless and to be made to feel like a criminal for simply wanting some much needed relief....

Hello, Lisa! How are you? I'm very sorry about what you're going through.

How have you been looking for a new doctor?

If you're calling and asking up front if they'll prescribe these, you're going to be told no and they usually won't even let you get in the door, because it's considered drug seeking behavior.

You'll need to set up an appointment with a new doctor, make sure the receive a full copy of your most recent medical records, then keep the appointment and discuss your treatment options then. In many cases, they will be more prone to prescribe accordingly, when they can see what has and hasn't worked for you in the past as documented by a fellow physician.

Can anyone suggest a good doctor in that area?

Verwon, thank you for asking .... it was a real struggle as I was only able to find one doctor (pain clinic) who would take cash and it is VERY expensive but at least I finally got some help. I am also slowly working my way thru the system to get some additional treatment for spinal injury due to recent fall that should help a bit too as that has made the pain so much worse and it was bad enough before. I just didn't stop calling pain clinics until I finally found one that would take cash, even tho it is literally breaking the bank at this time it is the only option. apparently Louisiana decided some time back to shut down almost all of the pain doctors up here because SOME people were abusing the meds, this is the same brilliant mentality as deciding no one should be able to own a gun for their own protection because some people commit crimes with them. how about we punish the offenders and not those who actually have a good reason? thanks again.

It is against the law to prescribe Soma along with any narcotic the AMA was leaned on by the DEA who said that most overdoses had been reversible if not for SOMA they do prescribe Robaxin or Methocarbinol as it is approved for prescribing

I am in the process of transferring to Dr. Weedman in Texarkana. He is private pay, $200/1st visit, $100/visit thereafter. You must have any X-rays/scans, surgical notes or records in order, a 6mo drug prescription history printout from your pharmacy, and a statement from yourself faxed to them for them to approve you as a patient. I was impressed with Anita, the receptionist I spoke to & she was very helpful. They are NO BULLS***. But if you need a doc, I think I've finally found one in the arklatex area, thank GOD. SHREVEPORT-BOSSIER, TEXARKANA, NORTHEAST TEXAS, SOUTHEAST ARKANSAS: LISTEN UP!!

Secondly: I have been having the same problem. I live on the Texas / Louisiana line and have been driving to Tyler, Tx. Dr. Jim Holleman, DO is good IF YOU don't mind having your benzodiazepines ripped out from under you suddenly, or if you're not on them. He prescribes methadone, is private pay. 320$/1st visit, 155$/visit thereafter. He is 78yrs old. His partner is 80. I had been seeing him for 8yrs with ZERO bad experiences until very arrogant, unpleasant & downright CRAZY 80yr old Dr. Alexander Daniel Boudreau, DO came in on the practice 6months ago. Very suddenly, my Valium and ambien were snatched from me because "they are deadly in combination with methadone". That is bulls***. I've been taking the two together for over16 yrs and wake up every morning. I ended up in the hospital with prolonged & severe benzodiazepine withdrawal & had a mild stroke. I am only 36 yrs old. My primary care doc put me back on Valium and cited Dr. Holleman was taking me off WAY too fast, which of course I already knew. It was INDEED DEADLY to do so. I knew this already as I am a registered nurse. (No. This does not mean I have ANY luck with pain management docs. Quite the opposite, actually because they know I'm smart and educated enough to call their bluff and will do so.) He then got all angry and called my pc doc and told him he was "committing malpractice". I guess Dr. Holleman was, too until the 80 yr old arrogant a**hole came in and let him know?! I mean WTF?!

DR. Holleman has been WONDERFUL, until now. Honestly, I think age related paranoia and dementia have set in under the careful "guidance" of his narcissistic a**hole of a partner and fellow Doctor of osteopathy, Alexander Daniel Boudreau. If you're NOT CONCERNED ABOUT BENZODIAZEPINES OR ANY SLEEP MEDS (he freaks out and will discharge you if you get them from another doctor, too. My CARDIOLOGIST wanted me to stay on benzo sand meds for insomnia , ads it worsened my heart arrhythmia WITHOUT them, and he even wrote a detailed letter to that effect. Dr. Holleman talked to Dr. Boudreau and suddenly went back to" no. I don't care what the cardiologist says. You're getting off the benzos in 4weeks". I was DEAD for SIX MINUTES after my stroke. COLD TURKEY BENZO WITHDRWAL WILL KILL YOU. PERIOD.) IF YOU'RE NOT CONCERNED WITH TAKING ANY BENZODIAZEPINE (Xanax, Valium, klonopin, Ativan...Google benzodiazepines) OR SLEEP MEDS OF ANY KIND (even the humble 5mg Ambien/Zolpidem) this is a great place. Otherwise, do not waste your money or time.

linda, Louisiana Medicaid won't pay for pain management drs.

Rocky, there are No Laws that say a patient can't be prescribed Soma, Valium or any other drug and opiates, although many drs say that there is.

David, were you able to find a pain management dr ?

I went to Dr Weedmen also. I can't tell you what an ass he is. Tanga too. Weedmen was prescribing me methadone and for breakthrough pain I was given oxycodone. I thought breakthrough pain meant (if you need more relief to take oxy). I took it now and then, but not everyday. So he did a random U/A. Well he said there wasn't any oxy in my pee. I explained, he gave me 1/2 my dose and told me to wean myself off, bc he was making it to where I'll never be treated again by a pm dr! He prescribed 12 10 mg methadone per day. And 8 30 mg oxy. I am not a junkie. I was injured in a 3xs rollover car wreck! All I can say, don't drink Mountain Dew and nyquil! And take the meds he gives you that u don't need or you're ruined for life! I still can't find a pm dr here in town bossier or Shreveport that will take blue cross. It took a lot of work to clear my record thanks to this jerk. Proceed with caution. Oh and tangs, he said I had too many dr's on my profile, ER visits I guess. I had gout, strep, and an ear infection! Dang my bad! Too many dr's on my profile? Wth? Is this illegal? And does anyone know of a dr that takes blue cross and prescribes narcotics? Nerve blocks are painful and don't work nor do inj's.

Kim, the profile the dr was talking about is your profile at the Louisiana Prescription Monitoring Program. That database lists all of the prescriptions that you have gotten filled since 2008, not just Schedule II's. If you have gotten prescriptions filled in neighboring states, your drs also have access to that info.

NyQuil contains alcohol. It is possible that you can test posiive for alcohol if you take NyQuil.

You can call Blue Cross and ask them for a list of Pain Management Drs in your area that take Blue Cross. There is no way of knowing what treatments and/or meds a dr will prescribe. You will need copies of your medical records. If you don't have a PCP, it might help if you have one.

I am prescribed soma 3 times daily 350 mg and my medicare replacement policy for disability pays for it with override. My pharmacy has not seen this covered but I have tried everything. I have severe MS, with over 25 surgeries and only 42. I know that it is not illegal but highly scrutinizedoubt. In New Orleans. Good luck and bless you!

Jenny924 , there are ways to have medications covered when they are denied. The pharmacy can do an overide or the patient can appeal the denial and the doctor can write a letter. Unfortunately, most doctors don't want to spend their time doing paperwork.

Re: Ryan (# 33) Expand Referenced Message

You cannot tell a doctor what to prescribe. More than likely a new doctor is going to want a copy of your medical records from your last pain management doctor. Do not expect to find a doctor that will prescribe Methadone at first, if at all. Also do not expect to find a doctor that will prescribe an opiate and Soma and/or Xanax. If you are seeing a psychiatrist that prescribes the Xanax. That may or may not be problem.

If you do not have insurance that pays for pain management. You won't find a doctor in this area.

I need help finding a private doctor in Bossier or Shreveport, Louisiana who will prescribe approx 30mg of methadone for pain. I have all records to show my problems. I was on 40mg opana 3 times a day. And 60 4mg dilaudid for break thru. 90 soma & 90 xanax. My pain dr died (and she was independent) about 3yrs ago, but I have gotten no help finding a new doctor. I have been to a few others who cut me down so much, without tapering, but two weeks is impossible if you have been on them for years. Im bedridden and disabled. So the clinic is out, plus 95.00 a week for 30 mg is bull. Methadone is the cheapest drug on the market that lasts 8 to 12 hrs. All other 12 hour pain meds are outrageous. The opana was taken off the market and it was 1600.00 for 60 pills. So yes I had to self taper, but have a bad reputation dr who has no idea what the ratio is. Opana is twice as strong as methadone, oxycodone, ect. So roughly I was taking 40mg opana 3 times a day. That's 240 mg methadone without the breakthrough meds. Then the pain dr wont come to the HOSPITAL. So good luck explaining that to a hospital dr. I can go on for hrs, but I think im doing good, to be on 30 mg methadone, but cant afford it. So if anybody knows of an understanding dr I would appreciate it. GOD BLESS.

Re: thomas (# 7) Expand Referenced Message

The doctor's name in Texarkanas is Dr Weedmen, and he is NOT CARING OR COMPASSIONATE! And IF you had seen him you would've KNOWN THAT. He's a jerk and is a hateful old fart! He had me on methadone and 8 30 mg oxy for breakthrough pain, well breakthrough pain meds are just what they say, when methadone isn't working use the oxy for the pain. Well for a week or so I didn't take my b/t meds and Dr Weedmen gave me a U/A and said my b/t oxy wasn't in my system and he could no longer see me! Wth!? Now that's caring right there huh? Well here's another sweet thing he did, he flagged me nationwide! So no p/m dr would see me within a 100 mile radius! Now if u call this old fart caring and compassionate you are crazy! Plus he's like 100 yrs old! A good pain management dr in or around Shreveport? I've not yet found! And I've lived here my entire life, sadly they do not exist!

I'm in need of a pain specialist for chronic pain in my hip and my general dr refuses to write pain meds. Please tell me where you found a pain specialist that accepts cash. I have united health care community group but no one accepts Medicaid for pain management.

Well I'm here to inform you my dear that the combo of Mountain Dew and nyquil WILL GIVE YOU A FALSE+! And I've NEVER HEARD OF A DRUG PANEL THAT SHOWS ALCOHOL. That's a NEW ONE! Lol! Gd, I do think it's ok if I drink while seeing a pm dr.

Since you're so wise, why is it that a dr would cut you off of methadone after 7-8 of taking it for NOT HAVING TO TAKE YOUR BREAK THROUGH MEDS? Aren't BREAK THROUGH PAIN MEDS FOR PAIN WHEN YOUR METHDONE ISN'T WORKING? After all I do think the term BREAK THROUGH MEANS BREAK THROUGH. So why then was it that I HAD to take a break through IF I DIDN'T NEED IT?

By the way thanks for the info. And your smart ass comment about "there's no way to tell what a dr is going to prescribe you". And correcting someone about something that YOU HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF! Have you ever drunk Mountain Dew and nyquil and took a drug panel? Yeah, not likely. I HAVE AND WHAT I'M SAYING IS A FACT!!! YOU WILL 100% SHOW FALSE+ FOR OTHER DRUGS WHEN THESE 2 things are taken together.

Kim, put Pain Management Doctors, your city and state, in google. If you have insurance, call your insurance company and ask for a list of Pain Management Doctors in your area. You need current medical records and diagnostic testing proving you have physical conditions that may require opiates.

Omg I'm in pain due to bulging discs and a roll over car wreck to top it off, then I fell about 6 feet onto a concrete floor from my attic. Please if possible give me the dr name you found as I need to go now. I'm in so much pain I've been unable to go to sleep in 9 days. Please help me. {edited for privacy}
