Going Out Of Town For 3-4 Weeks. Clonazepam Prescription (w/ 1 Refil) Expires 2 Weeks Into My Trip. Early Refill Question (Page 2)

Updated

Hey,

New to the forums. Just registered because this seems like the right place to answer my question.

I am on clonazepam .5mg 4x daily and get a monthly prescription with 1 refill. I filled it on the 14th of this month and I go out of town (currently live in Colorado and am going back to my home town of Baltimore) for 3-4 weeks on the 29th of this month. Also, my prescribing doctor is out of town until the 12th of October.

Anyway, my prescription is filled through walgreens, and I will run out 2 weeks from the day I leave town. I will be out of town anywhere from 3-4 weeks. My flight to Baltimore has been booked however my exact return date has not yet been decided but will be sometimes between 3 weeks and 4. I know that walgreens is nationwide however while in Baltimore I will not have a car and do not want the added stress of the possibility of not being able to get to the pharmacy on the day of my refill and possibly running out, or the potential issue of refilling an out of state refill that could arrise. My stress levels are not the best to begin with which is why I am on clonazepam to begin with, and it is just worrying me about going away without adaquate amount of my meds pending any problems filling while away.

I am wondering if I go into my pharmacy and explain my situation, do you think that I would be able to get a refill or a half refill before I leave on the 29th so that I leave town with enough meds to last me till i return in hand. This would be refilling 2 weeks early, but I only actually need to get 2 weeks of the refill to ensure I have enough which would be half of the prescribed refill. On my bottle it does not say any date in which I have to wait to refill, it only says a date in which I have to use my refill before it expires. I know insurance would not cover this, however it is a generic drug and should not be very expensive. The cost is not a worry to me. Do you think my walgreens will do this for me? I know it may seem to be asking a lot to be 2 weeks early, but given my situation I believe it is reasonable.

Has anyone had any experience with this or could anyone offer their opinion on whether or not this will be allowed to be done?

Thank you,

Steve

Do not go two weeks by three you will breath heavy and not catch your breath, sit still. I stayed awake for 12 days zero sleep and ate nothing for two days - I had to force myself to drink water with salt.. Worse than tonsillectomy.. Heart rate over 120 bpm.. I was in withdrawal bc my psych was on vaca for 3 weeks, an np.. Major legal suit as it was patient abandonment lost 30 lbs!!!!! Went size 10 to a 4-6!!! Half my size!!! Very scary i thought it was thyroid but i was on 2 mg -1mg of clon twice a day!!! The MD would not call in bc the PDMP was just enacted and showed i was on a pain pill for broken ankle and he did not know me so he said wait until your dr comes back.. Reality i should have gone to hospital i almost died and could have.. Dont play games w these meds.. Had i known about benzo dangers until cold turkey withdrawal and amnesia and insomnia, I never would have gone on them.. My endocrine at the top us hospital said they make you heavy lb wise.. Yes i lost all that weight in 3 weeks.. My hands limbs tingled, lost hair, etc.. Suffice to say i called dr and she freaked knowing the legal implications and physical dangers upon returning.. She immediately filled and said to walk dont run to pharmacy.. I insisted on cutting dose in half to .5 so 1mg so now I try to take .5 mg daily or every other day.. Almost off.. Would rather suffer!!!!

As far as my experience goes, 31 years of heavy chronic pain. You are assumed to be a criminal and have criminal Intent until proven otherwise and. This is true for each and every prescription. I never been charged with doctor shopping but the laws are penalties are strict and the Feds can enhance your sentence. I was getting treated in Europe where it is difficult for 6 years and now back I. The states and I am going to have to let my scripts all lapse. They will not even give you something to make withdrawal easier unless. You sign something admiting guilt and you the can't own firearms or vote. Then you can never get a pain prescription again even for surgery. What you describe whe reasonable is in violation of federal law 25 year penalty and in violation of doctor shopping. All the databases are highly automated and they always have been, it just that it's legal now for them to snoop and to use the info for the men in black 4 am no knock warrant where they kill the pets and many times Th kids. But we are all "safer" right?

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GO TO WALGREENS! You will regret it and their pharmacist quite often causes additional problems between the prescriber and patient due to the unpublished GFD and the very different interpretations by individual pharmacists. They blame it on new DEA regulations but I have provided a link to let you decide for yourself who is telling the lies.

nationalpainreport.com/dea-doctors-pharmacies-responsible-pain-med-denials-8822886.html

From the same article: “There have been no new regulations. There have been no rule changes. There have been no changes in the Controlled Substances Act,” said Payne

A link to the leaked Walgreens GFD checklist. It really isn't bad it's the ignorant pharmacist who make poor decisions..

Look at the post by the DEA. This is not the DEA. It is the individual pharmacies distorting the regulations and appointing themselves prescription nazis. Go to the DEA website and read this for yourself. The pharmacies and pharmacist are lying to you when they say this. There have been very little changes to DEA regulations.

I'm in Florida and was going to be visiting out of state. I realized I'd be over a week with out my Klonopin by the next time it was due to be filled. I called CVS (where I always refill my script) and the pharmacist who was a complete DUD about the situation said I'd have to wait until my next refill. I was in a panic at the time so I called my Dr's office and he simply called and had them override it and I was able to pick up a new refill that night. I had no problems after that. I had recently switched to that Dr also so I hadn't been seeing him longer than a couple of months. So I would call your doc on a sincere level, tell him/her the situation and ask how they can help you. The pharmacists around here (at least at CVS and some experience with Walgreens) don't seem to be of much help.

The pharmacy should be able to do a vacation override & insurance will usually ok it.

I went through this same issue. I had to talk to my dr an she had tonfax my pharmacy to let them know my vacation situation an she had to give them approval to fill the script early. If I were you I'd talk to your doc first..

Oxycontin? That's a bit one? Couldn't you have it filled at a Walgreens or CVS or whatever large chain where you're going. That's like the #1 excuse that doctors hear for early refills. I'm not doubting you, I just really don't know what the federal guidelines would say about that.

All the big chains share a database, as do even some of the rare local pharmacy. If you are out of town and you use a Walgreens or CVS, you'll have no problem getting them filled when they should be.

I am in exact same situation. My pain management Doctor authorized an early refill due to vacation. All I did was explain to the nurse in advance and she got it written and I got it filled. No hassle.

I am in a sowehat similar boat, except my vacation is a cruise dirung which my klonopin will run out. I doubt I can have a doctor on the ship dispense klonpoin. What does one do in this situation? They don't have CVS (where I go for my refills) in the ocean.

I have been in a similar situation and no walgreens will not fill that early. I've been on klonopin for over 20 years and I take 2, 2mg tablets a day. Walgreens will only fill a few days early unless they speak to your Dr and get an ok. Also the only other way to get your klonopin early is for the Dr to call it in for you, even a half of a script. This is what I've experienced with walgreens and with my Dr.

Hi Steve,

I traveled for work for 40/52 weeks. And in all small towns. And one time I ran out and had a seizure.

If we were to get everyone who cares about the rights to getting medication to band together in a group of 1-50 million people, go to Washington and fake a seizure to show what is happening to people and the insane amount of stress associated with anyone who takes Benzo's and other drugs. But mostly benzos/opiates get together for a responsible drug march to get rid of all the stupid over kill by the people who are in need of meds but are being treated like a drug addict because of the 2% who abuse the system.

We know some of are bills in our wallet might not be real, but do we abandon our currency? And when you go to the bank in another state do they ask you a lot of questions when you take out money?

I just want people to know about the fact that there are a lot of fake bills in our system but we don't treat everyone that uses cash as a criminal.

So to get Kpins:

1, Talk to your DR
2. Show your trip plans to your pharmacy.
2. Reduce your use by 10% to cover the last few days.

I have had to take 3 over 10 days. It sure beats having nothing.

Good luck. And you pointed to the problem we have in Society.

Call your Member of Parliament. Call the drug manufacturer. They have large pockets and will make you a poster child for change and it will help us all.

Good luck.

Hi Steve,
Walgreen's will make arrangements for you to get in filled in Baltimore (they can legally fill it 2 days early. They also deliver.

Hope that helps.

Your first call should be to the Pharmacist (ask for phamacist) where you normally get refills. They will know what to do.

Why did you have 2 doctors? That was probably the first red flag.

We have the problem because there are many more of them (abusers) than us (who take as directed). They are always going to win because they are selling, OD'ing and dying. Klonopin is also a street drug (Special K, Kpin), Vicodin (Vic's, Hydro's). And just so you know, if you get a bunch of people to gather in front of the White House and have seizures, nobody will even notice. I live here, seen it all.

One sure fire way, if possible as I understand your prescribing physician is out of town, would be for him to increase the dosage. An increase in dosage is a guarantee of filling another prescription. If you could explain to him the situation, assuming you have a well established rapport with him.

Also, if he would prescribe something like Xanax or ativan. I don't quite know why, is klonipan a benzo, I was able to get Clonipan and Xanax a couple of weeks later because I really didn't think the Clons worked as well, at least for me. They would at least offer you some anxiety relief. Hope this helps.
