I am taking Glycomet 1000mg -sustained release twice a day. But I find many a times that the whole tablet coming out in the stool. What is the reason? Does it mean that the system has not absobed the medicine? What is the way out?

I am aged 63 and suffering from type 2 diabetes. The blood sugar level used to be erratic,at times shooting up to 300PP. I was advised Glycomet 500mg twice a day + Glycomet SR 500mg twice a day. But Glycomet SR was not getting absorbed in the system and I was observing the tablet coming out intact in the stools next morning. My Pharmacist on hearing that changed it to Gluconorm G 500 mg. Even that also comes out in the stool next morning. The tablet while coming out would be spongy in nature. With that and Galvus 50 mg twice a day blood sugar is controlled it is around 100 Fasting and 140 to 190 PP
My question is why does the Sustained release tablets don't get absorbed? Does it mean that the tablets impact is not felt at all? (But I find that the day I do not take Sustained release tablets the sugar level increases)
Currently I take 1gm of metformin(twice a day+Galvus50mg ( twice a day ) The diabetologist who checked me told it is alright to have this because my kidney functioning is normal. How long I have to continue the same dosage? Would it require me to increase the dosage as time passes? Please clarify

The sustained release tablets do release the medication and it is absorbed and used by your body. The spongy material is just the part that held the medication, while it was slowly released into your body and it is normal for that to come out in your waste.

The others are the same, it may look like the entire tablet is in your stool, but it is actually just the outer shell, the medication has been released just as it was supposed to be.

As to how long you will have to continue that dosage, or if you will ever need to change it, that is something that you will need to discuss with your doctor. It will depend on how well it continues to work for you and your future blood sugar levels.

Do you also watch what you eat to better control your blood sugar? That and exercise are both vitally important.
