Geodon Reviews

Updated

I have a bi-polar condition and was on seroquel for about 10 years with success. It started giving out this past summer & now my doctor put me on 80mg of geodon, 4 lithobid. I feel I am (in-between) bouncing off walls and my vision is screwed up. I don't think I can live this way. Any suggestions?

I am also bipolar, was on seroquel for 3yrs. I just got switched to geodon myself about 3 weeks ago at 80mg a day. I feel the same bouncing around everywhere. Sounds like we need all the first hand understanding we can get.

I was taking Seroquel also and my Dr. switched me to Geodon because she is trying to help me with my weight problem since being on all of these meds. and getting clean $ sober. I put on 80 lbs. that's depressing to think about with or without a chemical embalance. Anyway Amy, I too have been bouncing off the walls. I have way too much energy. I get up at 4:30a.m. Nobody else is awake at that time in the morning so I get very borred.

Ok . . .All three of you have the exact story I have with a long term Seroquel script and then switched to Geodon but had the exact opposit reaction to the Geodon. I literally couldn't move for about 24 hrs +. I think I made one attempt to get up in the morning for my day headed for what I thought was the bathroom, bounced off the wall, fell into my bed and slept untill the next day. Scared the S%*! out of me and quit taking them from then on.

Now as to the problems you are having, the only viable solution here is to talk to your doctor about your side effects and why you don't think this drug is working for you.

Remember, it can take several weeks, for some people as long as a month or more, before a drug reaches its therapeutic level in your body and starts to work the way it is supposed to.

Under no circumstances should you abruptly stop taking a drug like this and try to find other solutions with intent to self-medicate. That is simply not safe.

So please, speak to your doctor, they will be best able to decide if you have tried this one long enough for the worst side effects to wear off and the med to start working for you, then they can evaluate if it just isn't doing what it should and prescribe something else you can try in its place.

if you have your doctor decrease the amount to 40 mg instead of 80mg you won't feel so spacy. mine was decreased from 80 to 40 twice a day and i'm functioning normal

Lithium can make you feel like you are in a tunnel for about 4 weeks until it takes control of your brain salts and helps seratonin work properly. I am not sure how the Geodon is working. My son took him and it gave him a racing heart. He is on 17 Seroquel a day. I hope his does not give out.

Geodon is ruining my life. I can barely function well enough to get out of bed. I feel disconnected to reality. How can I beat this?

Anybody got anything positive to say about Geodon? I'm getting ready to go on it and you guys really paint a bleak picture.

Friends, my mother is, or was, among you, kind, bipolar, schizophrenic, frequently manic, often depressed. Within 90 days of being prescribed Geodon, she was dead. It seemed like 90 years off the gain. Worse than we’d ever experienced, and we knew this woman for over 50 years. My dad and me. At 74 y/o, 112 lbs frail, she assaulted a police officer it made her so edgy. And that was just the beginning. She died within three months, by suicide at 74. Had pawned or sold everything she owned. Please share your stories with me. And please take great care in the use of this drug in elderly patients. She loved it. Said she’d never felt better. The high was not worth the price we all paid. 90 days.

Re: Sad (# 9) Expand Referenced Message

I know someone on it with seroquel at night and geodon twice a day. Doing well for a year. Both are generic version. I also knew an elderly lady who had to stop geodon because it made her lose all her sodium. She became very confused but her family took her to the hospital early and they reversed it. As with any psychotropic medication it has side effects. Report any change in mood or orientation to the doctor.

I’ve been taking Citalopram or Celexa 40 mg for 15-20 years. My doctor says should stop because it causes heart arrhythmia in over 60 years old. My brain feels a terrible buzzing if I try to stop. I don’t feel the need to take any meds. How do I wean off this potentially dangerous drug?

Re: Maija (# 11) Expand Referenced Message

I just read that antipsychotics like Geodon are NOT approved by the FDA for elderly people!

Re: Mimi (# 10) Expand Referenced Message

I'm so sorry for your loss. Its awful how so many companies just care about profits and not patients. Nothing can replace your mother, but please continue to tell your story. It serves as a warning to those who may be prescribed this medication and have no idea about the possible side effects. I'm not a litigious person but if I were you I think would talk to a lawyer. Its not about money, it's about making companies start thinking about the consequences of their actions. Maybe the only way to do that is to hit them in their profits!!! I will keep you and your family in my prayers. God bless you. L

Re: amy (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

I am on Abilify 2mg, and it is doing better than any bipolar and depression medicine I have ever been on in 22 years. Have only been on it for 1 month. I read a lot of reviews and any higher of a dose didn't work well for people. It made them all worse. Can think better, clearer, not much anxiety anymore, social now not before at all. Lots of good changes.
