Generic Nuvigil

Updated

I have been put on the generic nuvigil (armodaginil) 200 mg. I had started a new medicine about the same time and was having side affects of lipitor. I had swelling, sore joints, headaches, just felt awful. I went off lipitoror right away and about 3 weeks later I still feel awful. Has anybody that got put on the generic nuvigil have problems waking up or functioning at all. I'm very forgetful and just want to sleep all day. Doctors/pharmacy said Iit is exactly the same. I dont understand why since I got switched to generic it doesn't seem to work. I'm going crazy thinking this is all in my head.

Which generic brand did the pharmacy give you? I'll bet anything your reaction is due to that. Even if the dose of medication is the same fillers/etc can influence how your body processes it. For nuvigil mylan is one manufacturer that people have been really complaining about (Google nuvigil mylan to find the thread). But now the good news! I just started taking nuvigil this month and researched the effectiveness of the generics as I have had bad experiences in the past (Lamictal example has some bad generics. What I found is that Teva (pharm company) makes a generic and they also bought out the company that made the brand (Cephalon). Tell your doctor or pharmacy that you are having a bad reaction to this generic but you heard the one by Teva is by the same maker as the brand. I also found that the price for nuvigil (and provigil) at Costco has dropped dramatically. So I filled my script at Costco and requested Teva brand(they order in what they had a contract for which was mylan but I explained how people say it's ineffective). They were able to order the Teva kind for me. Total cost for 30 was only $75. Mylan would have been $50 since that's their contracted kind. The Teva pills look exactly like the brand version (have the big C on them) so they may actually be exactly the same since. Annnnnd it's been working great for me this week. I had stomach pains w provigil but switchingt to Teva nuvigil seems to have fixed that. So yea I'll beta lot that you just need to get a better generic. Get Teva and you'll be back to normal.

the reason you may not be getting the same reaction as brand name is because the generic has to have only 80% of the active ingredient in nuvigil.

thank you so much about the different companies producing the generic nuvigil. The generic has never worked so I think and hope the one made by Teva does. thanks so much!

Hello Miss V,

Everything that NuJourney is exactly right! I just wanted to add on a little to what they said.

In order for a generic brand to be able to manufacture and sell a medication it needs to prove to the FDA that they are able to consistently manufacture the medication in a way that when administered stays within a -20%/+20% range of the active ingredient in the bloodstream.

When choosing a generic it is important to keep in mind the inactive ingredients and how you have reacted to them with previous medication as well as doing research to see how many recalls the company has had for not staying within the FDA limits.

If you don't know what inactive ingredients your brand has you can simply tell me which one you are taking and I will gladly supply you with the supplemental information.

I hope this information helps.
