Generic Vs Brand Meds Of Adderall (Page 2)

Hello All: Eight years ago I had a gastric bypass losing from 294# to 117# (too low for a 61 yr. old female). Currently 145# & feel good from weight standpoint. I have had many adversities from the bypass with 4 subsequent small bowel resections. I cannot absorb generic meds. This leads me to excess costs on all of my meds. I was changed from brand Lexapro to escitalopram (generic) in June and by Sept., I was suicidal and required intensive treatment until I could get the brand Lexapro. My insurance (Medicare Advantage Plan) is a nightmare to cover any of the brand named meds even when my Psychiatrist states Brand medically necessary. Am also taking Wellbutin SR 450mg/day which is over the recommended max. dose. Dr. is wanting to change me from Wellbutrin SR to Adderall 30mg hoping this adjunct therapy with the Lexapro will make a huge difference. I have been on the Lexapro/Wellbutrin combo for over 4 years and it is time for a change. Can someone please tell me any experiences with the brand Adderall vs the generic? I understand from reading that there are differences in the Barr generic brand and Shire brand name drug. I also take Xanax 1mg as needed which I tolerate well, and 50mg Deseryl at night as needed for sleep (rarely use). I was never on any antidepressants or antianxiety agents until my 33 yr. old son and his 28 yr old wife died suddenly in an airplane crash. The only other meds I use are Tenormin for irregular heart rate and Lasix for generalized edema. I had to leave my job as a hospital RN after 25+years which has led to even worse depression. I would appreciate if anyone can give me an idea about the Adderall. Is it expensive and does it work? I am dx with Major Depressive Disorder, OCD, Panic Disorder, PTSD and Prolonged grief. There are also elements of ADD. I have basically shut down and am fearful of others especially crowds. I isolate so badly and have no self esteem. I was so active and full of life. I was very social and loved to be with and help others. Now, I am basically withdrawn, very fatigued, severe memory problems, much fear and just unable to function day-to-day as a normal human being. I appreciate any help and will be happy to be of help to anyone that can use any of my experiences to help. Thank You and Blessings to all.

BS. You are not building a tolerance if you can go to sleep on it. It means you're actually ADD. Anyone getting all jacketed up is not ADD. Just like Xanax, if you have true anxiety or panic disorder, canvas usually will fix the problem or help. If you don't it will knock you out. Since day one 4 mg of Xanax hasn't made me tired or slow and Adderral hasn't raised my heart rate and I can take it and go right to sleep. People getting jacked up of adds and knod out of xans are doing nothing but making it harder for genuinely ill people to get there meds at a good cost and even more importantly find a doctor to perscribe them. Stop getting HI. I need my meds. High blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, ADD, generalized anxiety Disorder, PTSD, panic disorder. Please stop getting hi off our meds or we won't be able to get them. Thank y you.

I would file and online drug adverse report with the FDA, that the product did not work compared to the other generic CVS carried (TEVAs). Save a copy and give to your MD as that will provide him with a legitimate reason/proof why he needed to rewrite the Schedule II drug within the 30 day limit.

Hi, I'm very sorry to hear about your loss. My fiance died suddenly and I found him. Since, I've had a rough time of it too. Adderall 20mg has helped me in combination with celexa. The problem is getting it filled with all the shortages lately. I ran the cwheels off my car for 4 days trying to find any and finally somehow Xubex? A chain store ordered mine and after waiting Sunday And Monday I finally got it. It was sandoz I believe but, like many other people it's not working like the brand Barr/Teva and the screwed up part is in Florida where I live, they manufacture it here. Plus, I've never had any problems with medicines, being in trouble, etc. But, the one walgreens that even ever had it in stock, was maybe 6miles away and they won't allow me to fill with them now! My dr. Called And asked what's up but, they didn't aask them anything or tell them anything!? It's the only two meds I get. Apparently, it's happening all over town. Good Luck

I thought the same as I have been having the same experiences. It made no difference for me taking a break I do not believe it is a tolerance issue but that is for a phys to determine. Over the years and all the generics this Aurobindo either 30mg or 10mg is not right . That is how I even stumbled on this discussion as I thought I had been giving wrong meds by the pharm.

I had NEVER taken adderall until September 2014, like NEVER IN NY LIFE, and I fall asleep within half an hour. I sleep an 2 hours and then wake with "some" focus and it rly reigns in my energy. I also gained weight on it. :/ so idk if it's a "High tolerance" to blame for the ineffectiveness

I don't need a "drug holiday" as you call it. That would have a whole different meaning to me. It's not a tolerance. From day one i have been able to sleep on ads. This is a result of the medication doing it's job. It allows my brain to focus on tasks throughout the day and also make it possible for me to s*** it off to sleep. I have hi blood pressure and an irregular heart beat. I wouldn't be prescribed it if there was a great of it causing my heart to race. The very reason I can't take time release ads, Vyvanse, Concerta, and especially Ritalin. Maybe you are abusing it and that's your problem, but not mine. My problem is paying for it since it's price has gone up 400% in the 5 years I've been on it. I know more than I would like to about street drugs and pharmacueticals. I am an addict of H, cured from psychological evaluations, psychiatrists, and pharmacuticals. Never before or during my recovery have I thought about abusing medication. I never took medication during my 13 years on H. To get the proper help I have to spend 4 times the amount a norml mentally ill patiant would for a regular psychiatrist. The worst part is I live in VA and I can't trade the 9 pills I take a day for earth's natural medication, marijuana. So like my name says, I am a drug dictionary.

I too just got these u30 aurobindo and according to pharmacist its cvs generic manufacturers
They do nothing but make me nauseous. When I get refill I'm going to another pharmacy and opting for non generic

Diagnosed with ADHD at 50. Adderall raised my blood pressure within first few days, you have reason to be concerned. I am responding because we share some common issues, Bupropion XL 450mg. Medicaid won't pay for brand name or stock the Barr brand which I did well on for long time. Now I have to take whatever they have and I feel certain this last year was made more difficult because of this generic issue. Now on Concerta as well and last month pharmacy had to switch again because the rating wasn't high enough so that generic wasn't really helping me. Keep asking questions that no one else will do on your behalf. Best Wishes.

Hi Lin, Sorry to hear about all that you are dealing with. Your post caught my attention because I too had a gastric bypass 2003. Went from 348 to 170. I'm still discovering that surgery can cause all sorts of problems have a problem with some generic meds. Norco is one. Also was diagnosed 2012 with Kwashiorkor, which has affects protein you metabilize. Protein Malnutrition. I can't go into all that has transpired since the surgery. We are about the same age. I hope you get some resolutions to what you are dealing with.

Try going to Walgreen's and ask for the generic from TEVA. I actually submitted a complaint w the FDA over the generic brand now stocked at CVS. You can get your MD to write a replacement script but he/she will need a copy of wehaty you submit since it is a controlled II drug.

I have been researching this topic on the differences frm one adderal manufacturer vs another... And yes there's ABSOLUTETLY A HUGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN each different pharmaceutical company that makes them. Each company uses different fillers which make a huge difference in the results a person gets from them. I have read endless posts on these round orange ones with a a cross on one side and the imprint U ...
They are terrible!!!! Probably not as bad as the round pink ones with a cross on one side ( I think those are the worst) I have tried them all .... And from personal experience by far the best ones are the orange football shaped ones. The only pharmacy that I have found that carry these is Walgreens and a friend of mine just informed me that Walmart carries that brand as well. Hope this is of some helpl

I have taken generic Adderall IR for about 4 years.

In that time, I have had experience with the following generic brands:

Teva/Barr

Corepharma

Mallinckodt

The Teva/Barr generic (for me personally) works --profoundly-- better.

FYI: Avoid Mallinckodt at all cost! There is something --very wrong-- with their brand...

It is like taking a sugar pill. I reported them to the FDA.

I too had a prescription filled for Adderall 20mg for which CVS substituted the generic made by Aurolife Pharma, LLC. which is part of the Aurobindo group of companies (one of India's leading pharmaceutical companies) - Google it; this is 'foreign' medication! They produce a round light orange pill with two perpendicular score lines on one side and U30 on the other. Before this change (which I am sure is price driven) they dispensed Barr/Teva which from my experience was much better quality all around. These are the ones that taste sweet while taking them. If you read some of the reviews on "glassdoor" you hear current / past employees question how they keep their FDA approval. Ask before you submit your script, do not feel awkward, you have every right to know what you are getting prior to paying for it and what is going into your body. If the pharmacist starts to question why you want to know (beyond concern for possible reactions) / says they are all the same, find a new pharmacist. Do not let the fact you are getting a controlled substance put you in fear of getting the information and product you need. Remember they are selling, so why the concern when buying it? You have a script, it is legal, ask away!

Brand name drug company's will give U their drugs if you are low income, I went thru a bad patch & I got all of mine Free from all the Brand name CO. It was a while ago, I think I went through a website that called all the CO.'s for me. But they must do it a lot Bc every company I called had a whole department dedicated to it.
We have a lot in Common we should text or talk sometime.

I use to work for a pharma company and its true they will provide you either discounted or free product, (based on your income against the federal poverty level guidelines) but once the drug goes generic most of the time it disappears from the list of their drugs that make up their compassionate care program. They figure its cheaper generic so you can get it that way... So just check first, before applying...Shire (the comp that owned the patent for Adderall) I know for a fact does not cover it. ...

Do you even have adhd? Aderal has "always" put me to sleep. Why? Because I have ADHD. When you legitimately have ADHD "speed" works opposite to normal people. For people like me with extreme ADHD "speed" is actually a strong sedative. From day one on aderall it made me sleepy. I get ZERO euphoric speedy feelings. I actually intend to try straight dexadrin because I get uncomfortable side effects from the l-isomers. Just saying. I'm so tired of people thinking that I'm on drugs because I take medications that would be drugs to them but to me are medicine and in general are uncomfortable most of the time. I wish I could take speed and feel "speeded" ID love some euphoria. So if you don't know what your talking about do the world a favor and keep your "opinions" to your self.

all these downvotes make me sad. a drug holiday, in conjunction with a little watermelon fast...where you only eat watermelon for 72 hrs w/food-based vitamins and i like lemonjuice, agave plant syrup OR maple syrup and a pinch of cayenne powder in a big ole' gallon glass pitcher of filtered water and i hit the sauna or cardio like a madman in the hot months. AMPHETAMINES ARE NEUROTOXIC. flush those lil daily helper's left over waste and extra body load right through your skin. guess what? youre not supposed to be focused EVERY day! MODERATION made me the 37 yr old that is often told he looks 25 and i WRECKED my self with anything but alcohol @ 25.

The only times that i have ever had an adderall nap is when i was abusing pills ....60mg ir. The quote means, you sure are making A LOT of noise about something you claim to be a....dictionary about...because you used smack for 13 yrs?

I'm an AMATEUR PHARMACIST. i never purchased any drugs that i abused. They were ALWAYS pills. I have 8 PDRs from library book sales in my library. I hope you're still alive and "knodding" off.
