Generic Subutex/buprenorphine - Which Manufacturer Do You Prefer? (Top voted first)

Updated

Hello All,

I recently just got changed from suboxone to subutex due to a pretty bad allergic reaction to the naloxone in the suboxone. Basically my question for everyone is which generic do you guys prefer? My pharmacist can order any kind for me so at the moment I just got the Roxanne ones 8mg - they are white round tablets. This is my first day using and am already noticing my migraines are starting to subside, not fully, but starting to. So yeah if anyone has any suggestions please let me know all the ups and downs that you guys have been experiencing, thanks!

Good luck to one and all!

look, all i can go on is my experience with both brands/manufacturers. my experience is honest and forthcoming, i have no reason to lie or give high to marks to one brand and not the other. i had gotten pretty used to the Roxanne brand, the normal sized one with 54/11 on one side i believe. they really worked well for me. after they dissolved under my tongue, i felt the medication working and never had a problem with cravings. Then, out of the blue, my pharmacy changed manufacturers and i was given the really small, HiTech ones. i sometimes break them in half, needing only 4 mg at times and more at other times. needless to say, the Hitech ones make it hard to do this and it never seems like that little of medication could do anything. To make a long story short, i didnt like the HiTech ones AT ALL, they seemed to not last as long and didnt seem to have the amount of medication i was used to. My advice : remain on the Roxanne brand if you can, do not think that less filler is going to necessarily make a better delivery system. They are not as good, bottom line. Just my opinion though.

I do not like the Mylan generic subutex at all. I had thought they were the Roxanne brand when I first picked them up from the pharmacy (I'd been receiving Roxanne consistently until the change to Mylan). It didn't take long to notice how dissimilar these two meds are: While both pills achieve their purpose of reducing cravings for opiates as well as rendering opiates ineffective if taken concomittently, not to mention slowing the bowels down considerably, I find significant differences between the two brands:

The negatives of Mylan generic subutex:
1. They make me much less able to get up in the morning;
2. They wear off quite rapidly;
3. As their potency wanes after what seems a relatively short time (when compared to Roxanne sub), I begin to feel somewhat edgy and irritable;
4. Inconsistencies in the formulation resulting in "mixed batches." The result of these mixed batches is an inconsistency in quality of Mylan subutex.
5. This inconsistency in quality can also be observed by the external physical properties of the tablets in a particular batch, i.e. some of the pills may break in half quite easily, while another tablet may be much harder in composition. This is not a regular occurrence, but it is one that I have observed more than a couple of times.
5. Expense/Cost: The Mylan buprenorphine is more expensive than the Roxanne. Not by a only few dollars, either.

I am aware of the fact that individual differences in body chemistry, life style, etc., may influence preference for one pharmaceutical manufacturer's brand over another. I also accept that some of the effects of a particular brand may be dose related as well as dependent on other extraneous factors (diet, other drugs taken, etc. etc. etc.). With these factors in mind, I'm not expressing my comments for the purpose of debate. I'm simply stating my personal experience with Mylan buprenorphine compared to the other round white buprenorphine generic that I'd taken without incident before starting on the Mylan.

It was interesting to read the posts made previous to mine. Evidently, the results are divided, with some people preferring this brand over the others they've tried, whereas some feeling as I do about this brand. I'm anxious to read more reports by people who can compare or even by those who've never used any bup. before Mylan.

"I got da info" :you are posting the same misinformation that has been throwing everybody off and fking them up for years. BUPRENORPHINE blocks the effects of ALL opiate agonists (percs vics, etc) and antagonists (naloxone). Nothing can stand a chance. The naloxone in suboxone does nothing because it cant compete with the bupe. The manufacturer put it in as a scare tactic because it was supposed to discourage I.V abuse, however it was discovered that its just cant beat the bupe. Maybe, MAYBE, if one were to I.V 5-8mg tablets of suboxone, (40mgs bupe, 10mgs naloxone) it may possible be enough to start putting up a fight, but even then is doubtful. I have been on straight bupe for many many moons and if I want to feel any opes full strength, Id have to go 7-10 days without taking my BUPE ONLY subutex pills. What you stated is exactly what the manufacturer of Suboxone wanted everyone to belief, because the naloxone andprocess of combining the two drugs was quite expensive making generic competition more expensive and less appealing to generic companies trying to make a certain amount of profit while keeping their prices low. But it has been proven over the years that the naloxone does nothing because bupe outcompetes everything that tries to touch the Mu opioid receptors. Even naloxne. But every now and then, someone comes along who doesnt bother to do a little research to confirm what they think they know before posting incorrect information. Im sure SEVERAL people will back me up soon.

There are 2 new brands out, an orange oval tablet by Actavis with imprint 153 and a White round tab by Mylan with imprint M924. I just got the 2mg Mylans and can say that these are the best subutex ive had since the Teva brand.

I get Mylan M 924 at CVS. It's not very expensive either. I like CVS a lot. They don't look at me like I am less than, because of the medication I take. I have run into that at certain pharmacies.

EXCELLENT POST! I am very worried... My walmart has still had the Roxanne for me every month after they were supposed to be dis-continued or whatever... I still get them 4 Roxanne Labs bottles, all 120 of the f***ers. I know I am going to have to make a change soon. I have already had a run with the Activist Orange ones.. 1 month and the major downside was this) HUGE DIFFERENCE in my ability to get up and get going in the morning! It was like 0 effect when it came to that little pep I am used to getting from sub. It actually makes for a really Edgy and Uneasy morning especially after you have been taking sub for 5+ yrs. I was extremely uncomfortable ALL MONTH. Every morning My body would be covered in goosebumps as I would have the chills and my body temp would take hrs to get to a place where I felt good in my own skin. It was HORRIBLE. Tragic to say the least.

Please Roxanne. Dont leave me... Roxanne!! You dont have to put on the red light....

Yeah my pharmacist is awesome he doesn't treat me any different from the other customers. He don't give me s*** about filling a few days early that's between my doctor and I he believes. He orders whatever brand I want and is as enthusiastic about my knowledge, experiences and feedback as he is any other customer.

I hate to tell you that you're wrong because it seems like you have been taking pain medication following a dose of Buprenorphine but you are most definitely wrong. The no locks but you are most definitely wrong. The Naloxone that is the only difference Between Suboxone and subutex. You need to do your research and you will find that the blocker lies only in the buprenorphine. And please don't try to argue me because I have taken Subutex more times than I can count and two hours later took pain meds without feeling a single thing. You may think you're feeling the effects of pain medicine, but all you are feeling is minimal effects of the pain medicine mixed with the buprenorphine. Whether it is Suboxone or Subutex, no matter what the main ingredient buprenorphine will attach itself to your opiate receptors. The medicine will sweep these receptors for the remainder of your half life. The last time I relapsed, I was on Subutex for eight months. I could not feel the effects of oxycodone for the first three days. Trust me brother your wasting anything your doing immediately following subs. On top of that, every single time I have overdosed I have asked these questions to the doctors because of the continuous debate and every time I have received the same answer. It is bupe that blocks the effects of other opiates, all naloxone does is act as a deterrent from people trying to inj. or it can be prescribed by itself called Naltrexone and what that does is eliminate cravings.

Now I am not saying that using opiates after any of these medicines will make you sick. You just don't feel it's effects. But if you take Subs to soon after the use of another opiate, that can make you sick. A lot of people confuse that as well.

I would sugest the buprenorphine Teva 8mg sublingual tablet. It is slightly yellowish but apart from that looks just like the old subutex.it seems to me as if it has basically just the same texture to it. It melts under the tongue just like subutex, and feels just like it. A couple of other brands they gave me in the hospital were far from as good. There can be a huge difference. I stick to the Teva. I have 24mgs per day.

Just like to urge you if your as unhappy as I am in regard to Mylan pharmaceutical's generic subutex to call them and file a complaint at: 1-800-796-9526. Unless we as consumers speak up we will go unheard and unhappy. Good luck. Im getting the roxane brand and my pharmacy is in compliance with me. Happy days. God bless.

If you can get them then you better take whatever you can get cause my boyfriend had a script for 6 days and still no luck after calling literally 52 pharmacies. He went today and had to get suboxone which hurts his liver and makes him literally sick, but he is so sick now and the law doesn't say nothing about pharmacies in tenn where we are. It's crap that they say get off opiates then say we're going to make life even harder for ya by restricting you. This is what i call b.s. cause you should be able to get whatever your dr prescribed you.

I can honestly say subutex saved my life. I have been on it since 2005 and will for the rest of my life. Opiate addiction is a brain disease. The mu receptors get depleted when we stop treatment. We have incredible urges and compulsions. I was in a very reputable rehab and found an addictionologist and a shrink to help with my lifetime addiction to opiates. I am 58 now. I have relapsed only 3 very brief times. Honesty is vital to sustained recovery. I told my Dr. Subutex and suboxone have a ceiling effect. If you take more than 24mgs you are wasting the medicine. So being an addict I abused this too and learned the hard way. I have always taken the Roxane brand. I still have times I may want to relapse but it is brief. I pray, take a walk, help someone else, I do not dwell on it. A craving can only last 30 seconds, we cannot have 2 thoughts at the same time. Also I have read an implant is becoming available soon. Better absorption. Good luck and God bless.

Ok..here is my conclusion on All 7 generics.. I have only tried brand name subutex, roxannes(westward) kind not old shinny Roxanne as westward has made them different and chalky now all real Roxanne are most likely faded out by now and we are dealing with only westward 54 411s which are great to but little different than original Roxanne before westward bought them out.
I have never tried the smaller ones like teva or activas nor the mylan or hi tech. I would like to try hi tech as they make quality meds but most seem to prefer Roxanne over hi tech so I got those and they worked well..easy switch from he and name films to westward 54 411s..and picked them instead of hi tech or mylan or teva. Anyways I have now tried the new RHODES/PURDUE made newest generic with imprints RP b8 and will list my favorites in order..please note I haven't tried teva,activas, mylan, or hi tech. I do jot like any of those company's except hi tech and stay away from mylan and teva which is now allergan owned meaning activas owns teva and activas makes quality meds but they hit strong and end quick if even at all..so here it goes in my preferred order

#1-Rhodes manfct by purdue- RP b 8 imprints
#2- westward(formerly roxanne)- 54 411
#3-hi tech- 8 arrow
#4-mylan - M923 I believe
#5- teva- b799
#6-sun pharma- 460
#7- activas- orange pill with crescent moon

I must say the Rhodes are fantastic. They are about the same size as westward Roxanne but way more shinny and a little chalky like a good soma would be. The imprints and making of the pill are phenomenal and it kicks in very quickly and lasts longer than Roxanne but comes very close..this is one time where I have questioned ever generics being a close call and hard to decide but Rhodes are stronger than Roxanne at least for me..but I like both and would be happy getting either or but if I choose it would always be Rhodes. I have yet to try the hi tech or any small ones except brand name due to all bad reviews I've seen and the fact that allergan owns activas and teva and they make addictive cheap meds that hit hard but end quick and I have stayed away from mylan my whole life on every type of medicine sop yee lol. And on the sun pharma I know sun pharma medicines are expensive so follow the money u hear but I hear people saying they don't like the sun's at all but they are the most expensive of the 7..and I like my medicine to he made in the US where I don't think sun and novartis(sandoz) are anymore. Rhodes is phenomenal and will be everyone's preferred soon..again still need to try the hi tech but is say get Rhodes as purdie makes it for them..purdue invented oxycontin keep in mind and Rhodes just dispenses it so purdie makes the Rhodes ones. If you can't get Rhodes get westward Roxanne as it is a close call Rhodes is stronger by far but Roxanne are also just calm and nice as well..if u can't get wither I would say hi tech or mylan but imo I will he sticking with

-rhodes/Purdue-feedback RP b 8
-roxanne(westward)- 54 411
- and hi tech- 8 arrow
when I decide to try it if

needed..the rest are cheap and junk. The make with cheapest ingredient so they can make most money stick with these top three. Please if you have any questions I know my pharmacology very well and all the generics and which are best and not just for bup but for benz to and all..generic king here lol. Please ask anytime u have a medicine question il be happy to help

Re: Valerie (# 274) Expand Referenced Message

It has literally saved my life. The more I attempted taking suboxone, the worse I would feel due to the growing list of adverse reactions. Towards the end of my attempts at suboxone MAAT, I was to the point where I almost preferred withdrawals over being medicated with suboxone. I truly wish that subutex was more widely available because I am sure that it could save other lives as well.

Hi Dee, glad your headaches are beginning to subside. Subutex also did that for me. It has been a life saver. Changing to subutex also helped me in ending my lifetime battle of depression. On top of that it aided in my edema. I'm so glad you are reaping the benefits!!
So far, I personally feel that the Roxonne (big) have done better for me. The smaller ones I felt left me wanting more. Even if it Is in my head. The bigger ones take longer to dissolve which leaves the bad taste lasting longer as well... But I would rather have that awful taste for longer than be on Suboxone which adds so many additional problems to the already existing one. Good luck!
Thanks for your reply about the Teva's, I was pretty sure that they weren't in circulation any longer but wanted to make sure. Good luck to everyone in their recovery.

I found them at Kmart. They used to do Roxa, so I'm wondering if anyone who previously had Roxa has now changed to Mylan Brand Subutex. Since changing to the Mylan brand, I have been so much more tired. I hope I will soon adjust to the change and get some pep back again.

I know that the last time I went to Walgreens I got the new orange ones that are oval in shape. Personally I didn't care for them. However, they didn't make me extra sleepy, so there's that. Hope you find what you're looking for and can stick with it.

Be blessed!

You should be able to contact your prescribing doctor and he/she should help you.
I would also check any Walgreen/Cvs that you can get to. CALL AHEAD, let them know your situation and that your normal pharmacy just stopped carrying the medicine.

Best of luck! Worse comes to worse, you order online.

Is anybody sure roxanne has been discontinued? My pharmacist can get them and now will be keeping them in stock for mm. The only 2 brands he can get are Roxanne and Mylan. So maybe hi tech is the one being discontinued.
