Generic Cymbalta Duloxetine Insomnia

Updated

Cymbalta's generic, Duloxetine, was given to me by my pharmacy without notifying me of the change. I'd been taking Brand at night, 120 mg. for four plus years and the drug made a tremendous difference in quality of life. On the generic I had insomnia from the get go, felt depressed and exhausted during the day, and didn't figure it out for several days because the generic capsules are exactly the same colors as the Brand. (There ought to be a law...) Dr. suggested I then try taking it in the morning; then at dinnertime, but was still unable to sleep for more than three hours at a time, even after thirty hours of wakefulness. Feeling spaced out during the day made it Impossible to function normally, and eyes were still wide open at night. After a couple of weeks I felt like someone else entirely - it was disheartening and frightening. Whose thoughts were these? I like feeling productive and experiencing a range of emotions; not just negative ones. This is not acceptable. Back on brand and hurting financially; but what's the alternative? "Mental illness", and/or "mood disorders" if you prefer, are challenging enough without having the rug pulled right out from underneath.

Hello, Scribe! How are you? I'm sorry about what you've been through.

There is a law, actually, but it only concerns the imprints on them, not the colors. The imprints must be different.

There is a chance that the generics may have been slightly lower in the active ingredient than the name brand. They are allowed to differ by as much as plus or minus 20% of the active ingredient.

You may be okay with a generic, if your dosage is just raised a little. What has your doctor advised you to do about it?

After a couple of weeks on generic Cymbalta Duloxetine, I felt like someone else, not me. This is not acceptable. If the delivery mechanism of a drug makes it different from the brand, then how can it be deemed bioequivalent? Being unable to experience positive emotions and feeling that my head is in a vise? No thanks. Back on brand and yes, it's a fortune, but given the alternative. Generic Meds for mood disorders do not seem to be held to the same standard as drugs for physical disorders. Or am I being too "subjective"?
