I started taking the generic Wellbutrin 2xday, I had stomach aches, nausa, dizzy, mouth sores and funky taste in my mouth and profuse sweating. I had the non-generic before. After 3 wks, call pharm, he suggested LX once a day, which I was on last, but didn't relize it was now generic. Dr. send new perscription and within 1wk,all those horrible symptons were gone!! This is the generic XL and I am doing fine!

The way they look can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, so there is no way I could describe them all.

However, the active ingredient, Bupropion is the same, so if you had problems with the name brand, this will not likely change with a generic.

Common side effects my include: nausea, drowsiness, sweating and headache.

Is there anything else I can help you with?

Was described wellbutrin last wednesday. Started taking the generic version bupropion hcl lx 300mg on Thursday morning.I was doing fine the first day however starting Friday I was feeling real bad. nausea, headache, diarhea, light headed and thought I was going to pass out. Did not sleep very well that night. Even though I was feeling bad did take it again that Saturday. Regretted it, felt even worse that day with similar symptoms. Did not take it on Sunday and researched it online and found out that a single dosage should ever exceed 150mg. So why did this doctor perscribed me a 300mg pill? called and left a message today to speak with him but my call was never returned. What do I need to do? Confused and still feeling a little bad.

I started taking Watson Bupropion SCL XL (generic Wellbutrin XL) two days ago. I was prescribed 150 mg every other day as a starting dosage for issues with ability to focus and problems with having the drive to accomplish everyday tasks. I took my second pill this morning.

I've had some problems today that I've not experienced in many years, and wondered whether this medication is the reason, so I looked online. After reading comments, it seems that what I thought was hardlin possible is indeed possible. After taking just two tablets, I'm experiencing problems that I consider serious enough to stop the medication -- sudden complete exhaustion. moodiness (*****iness, that is), and a crying spell over a very minor glitch in plans for an event I'm helping to organize.
I sincerely appreciate the input from everyone and am glad to realize it's not just me but rather the medicine. Of course I will report this to my physician and change to brand name Wellbutrin to see whether that helps.

Dear, "single dutch"

I used to take the 300 mg Wellbutrin (after about a year of being on the 150mg, my Dr, with my request, upped it to the 300mg) and it just felt to me like a stronger dosage (as probably intended) which worked perfect since the 150 mg had stopped performing for me.

Anyways, my point is that DR's can absolutely perscribe the 300mg Wellbutrin if they think that's what the patient needs.

The reason the FDA won't allow anything over 300mg Bupropion, is due to risk of seizure in the patient. When Wellbutrin first hit the market, it came in up to 600mg forms, and that's when there were obvious problems. It's been on the market in th US since 1985, but there's been many doage adjustments due to negative side-effects, but from what I understand, those side-effects are often caused by a dosage that's too high.

Now, from the symptoms you mentioned (nausea, headache, diarrhea, light headed), personally, I think you may just be on the wrong anti-depressant - assuming you're taking Wellbutrin for depression. One thing to remember, and I'm sure you've heard this from your Dr, is that the different types of anti-depressant work quite differently. I only know this from personal experience and listening to my friends and close family about their experience with different types. My mom, for example, tried Wellbutrin, and it was one of the worst medications she's ever had. It made her have anxiety attacks, mood swings, shakes, etc... While, for me, Wellbutrin is a wonder drug. It helps my depression more than I ever thought any medication could, as well as my back pain, which I've been taking high doses of pain meds for over a year now (which I need to slowly get off of), as well as curbing my cigarette smoking urge.

On the other hand, I took Lexapro, Prozac, and Paxil BEFORE I was put on Wellbutrin, and ALL of those anti-depressants made me feel like jumping off a bridge. I had the same problems my Mom had when she was on Wellbutrin.

I would definitely talk to your Dr asap and let him/her know how you feel when you take it. It may just be the 300mg factor, OR you may be on the wrong type of anti-depressant. It's hard finding the right one for your own body (going through the negative affects of others can be unbearable at times), but once you do, it can change your whole outlook on life.

I wish you the best of luck!

Cut your tablet in half, I'm taking 150mg and Im doing fine.
A little drowsy, but fling well.

In the future Monica I would not cut any Wellbutrin tablets in half. The Wellbutrin XL, SR are time release tablets and could cause a seizure or release the medication to fast into your body.

I agree, I'm on buporpion 300 xl once a day for 4 mos. Now. I don't feel any different I found myself crying for no reason the other day. Anyways I chewed on it and I felt kinda tweaky and avoided eye contact with anyone. I'll never do that again. I emailed my Doc to see if there is anything else she can prescribe me, as long as I don't gain weight. Btw I do notice that the smell of cigarettes disgusts me. I would socially smoke only when I drink but now when I drink I avoid being near it cuz it makes me sick.

I developed a skin rash with 2 large blisters. I thought it was a rash developed by the rubbing of my clothes
while bicycle riding in very hot weather. The rash developed around the areas of my helmet, sun visor,
waist, and in between my legs. At first I thought it was a heat rash but I read one of the side effects is a rash.
Does anyone else have this problem or do you think this was caused by a heat rash.

I suffer from depression and have had 7 years of success using Wellbutrin 300XL since 09/30/2000. Insurance switched me to generic budeprion XL (Teva) beginning 05/16/2007. By 06/03/2007, I started having hallucinations of blacking out (or actual blacking out) for short periods of time. Dizziness, extreme anxiety, fatigue, and depression followed. While driving, I jumped the curb of a very familiar turn in my neighborhood and blew out my car's tire. On 07/02/2007 Dr. J decided to put me back on Wellbutrin 300 XL. Within days, I returned to normal. A recent article in Newsweek (Oct 13, 2008) by Mary Carmichael about generics mentioned that the FDA is investigating the generic Wellbutrin and prompted me to add my name to the petition.

accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/medwatch/

I sent this info to the FDA in a formal complaint.

Later a doctor from Teva called and interviewed me by phone to ask me about my experience with the Teva budeprion.

I later tried Watson bupropion hcl 300mg and immediately felt like I had on Wellbutrin. There are more manufacturers now, but I'm afraid to switch from Watson.

Hi. I was recently prescribed Watson brand Bupropion hcl xl for my Major Depressive Disorder. The first four days I was taking one tablet of 150mg then began taking two pills and it's been a total of eight days. I feel overall less depressed and a lot more energetic. However, I started experiencing ringing in my ears, small tremors in my hands, and an increase in anxiety. Also, today I had a particularly bad depressive episode where my mood was significantly more depressed than I have previously experienced and I even began shaking. I'm not sure if I should go back to taking one pill a day or if I need to stop this med all together. I will call the doctor on Monday.

I just received a Rx for Watson BuPROPion Hycrochloride (XL) and am scared to take one. I have tried other antidepressants and hated them. Some of them made me feel phsychotic; I would much rather be depressed than have my head messed up with drugs.

Your not supose to cut it in half ever, there is a big warning on the papers you get with your medication. I would highly advise not to cut in half unless your dr prescribed the kind u cam and told u too cut in half.

Did your doc tell you to take 2 pills daily or were you experimenting? Mood meds should never be experimented with. Take as directed by your doc --- always.

My pharmacy gave me a bottle of Bupropion HCL 150, however, when looking at this site I noted that it said it was a peach color with the No.186 on the pill. Now the pill I got is a small round tablet, the color is white and the imprint on the pill is "A 101". Is this the same pill? I am using it for depression.

Tina - sounds like your Dr. was starting you on the lowest dosage (150 once a day) to manage your tolerance to it before tapering it up slowly. But it must be SR, they wouldn't have you take an extended release (XL) twice a day.... I don't believe, but I'm not a Dr. either... just my guess. I know that the highest dosage is supposed to be 450mg so that would make sense for your refill to be increased to150 mgs for three x a day - but now that there is XL you might prefer the 300XL - I've been on it before and there is definitely has a period of adjustment to it when initially starting, I'm jittery (like I've had WAY too much coffee on an empty stomach) and possibly can't fall asleep (but hey, a sleeping pill fixes that problem, right?) for about a week, 5 days or so. I know to expect it now and make sure to eat something and avoid too much caffeine, so it's tolerable. Just knowing it's going to happen helps the anxiety of it because the first time it happened I was a little freaked out too. But once I get past that adjustment period it's smooth sailing. Definitely feel more energetic, but at the same time, also more calm... if that makes sense!? The only down side was the palpitations. I absolutely lost weight, not to the point of anorexia, but a pretty healthy amount (about 15 lbs over a 6 month period) The first time I was on it was after my baby so the timing couldn't have been more perfect for that to happen. Then that plateaus. That's been my experience anyway. Hope it helps. : )

I started taking wellbutrin (generic) by PAR and have a rash on my back an shoulders that will not respond to any topical treatments so far. The itching is driving me crazy. A few years ago I was taking the Sandoz brand with no side affects at all! Going to ask my doctor to make a change to see it this helps.

I just got a call from Direct Success yesterday. The manufacturer discontinued the cash program. So I am forced to go back to a generic. I guess I will go with the one of the three that gave me the least side effects which was Actavis.

I researched all day b/c i had the same problem with the brand name being too expensive.

I came across "Direct Success". I googled wellbutrin direct success and they have a program where you pay $50 for a month supply, which is a whole lot better than 580.00.

Their phone number is 1-800-520-3185.

Hope this helps

I have been taking Wellbutrin 300xl brand, but the price has gone up to $580.00 a month. I thought I would try the generic Wellbutrin by Par. I tried generic Wellbutrin before and it didn't help, there was a big investigation and found they were not the same. Has anyone tried the Wellbutrin by par.
I appreciate your help.

Yes, it can cause itching on your scalp. I know this from personal experience. I have taken the generic bupropion on and off for the last several years. The first time, the manufacturer was mylan. I had itchy scalp, cystic acne all over my face, and eventually noticed hair loss. I quit taking it for a long time, but the depression was bothering me so much that I needed another medication. I tried a ton of antidepressants that only made me feel worse (and other anti depressants also caused itchy scalp and hair loss too, such as the old tricyclic Imipramine (tofranil) and when I have pristiq a try, I believe my scalp itched as well and I felt worse, so I only took that for a week or two. Long story short, I ended up asking for wellbutrin again. This time I got the Sandoz generic. I have been taking it for a couple of months or so, 75mg immediate release tablets twice a day. In the past month, I have developed painful and embarrassing cystic acne all over my chin (no other part of my face, just my chin), have really not seen much difference in my depression. I never got any motivation like I did when I took it several years ago and to be honest I feel upset and agitated most of the time. Recently, my scalp began to itch again. It's usually the top of my head or the back of my head and I have noticed that if I scratch my head, sometimes a piece of hair comes off onto my finger, looking like it came out straight from the root, not just broken off. I had a haircut recently, so there is alot of hair on my pillowcase, but I keep wondering if my hair is falling out more too. The best way to tell is to brush my hair after showering and see how much hair comes out on the brush. I just wanted to let you know that yes, this can definitely give you an itchy scalp, and I never had any luck with the anti dandruff shampoos except with the medicated Selsun blue (with the red cap) and also another thing that helped was scrubbing my scalp with the Neutrogena body scrub for acne (it's an orange scrub with salicylic acid in it.) If I leave hair products in my hair for too long, it starts itching, so the best way that I managed the itching was to wash my hair everyday and scrub with the Neutrogena stuff. I have a doctor appointment this coming Thursday and to be honest I may not stick with the wellbutrin because even though it doesn't cause weight gain or libido problems, I don't think it's really helping my depression enough this time around for me to have to put up with the acne and the scalp/hair issues. The only way it will stop is to stop the medication and it should only take a few weeks to start noticing that the side effects are subsiding as the medication gets out of your system. Hope this helps!
