Generic Adderall XR manufactured by Actavis is not the same formulation as was used by Shire/Teva. The efficacy of the drug does not exist in Actavis' version. I plan on filing a complaint with the manufacturer. I encourage others who are not receiving the expected results with Actavis' product to do the same. Be sure call your pharmacy and get the lot number of your capsules.

Luckily, I am a chemist who has access to analytical equipment that will help me identify and quantitate this medication. I am unsure if it is indeed amphetamine salts and will not take my prescription. I want to know what I am putting in my body. Until this mystery is solved, I will paying for Brand.

I'm afraid that you won't actually have a legitimate complaint against the manufacturer.

There are some differences allowed in generic medications.

First of all, the active ingredients do not have to be 100% exactly the same, they actually only have to be bioequivalent, so it only has to be a very similar substance that acts in the body in the same manner. They prove this through various testing methods, so it's validated for the FDA, before the medication is approved for the open market.

The amount does not have to be exactly the same, either. They are allowed to fluctuate in the amount of the active ingredient by as much as plus or minus 20%. The FDA considers this an acceptable therapeutic window and for most the differences are so slight that they don't notice any change or suffer any problems. In many cases, this doesn't even amount to a full milligram.

And the inactive ingredients are allowed to be completely different, as long as they are taken from the list that's considered inactive and safe for use in pharmaceuticals.

You can learn more Adderall details here.

Thus, the only way you'd have a valid complaint is if you could prove that they were using substances in them that aren't approved and considered safe, or if the amount of the active ingredient is outside the acceptable fluctuation window.

Have you had any other odd effects from them, or just the efficacy issue?

I just started the Actavis brand and felt like I was going to having a stroke. Took it back to CVS and told them their was something wrong with this medication as have never felt so bad in the previous 3 years on other generics even when I accidentally took it twice one day. She blew me off. I tried to call their complaint line with no answer. Will be calling the FDA in the morning.

What did you figure out? I'm a laid off drug research scientist and I was just given the Actavis so-called generic. I never had any problem with Teva and those capsules were filled 50/50 with orange and white beads. After trying the Actavis and experiencing lethargy/sleepiness, I opened one and there are only white beads. Altho it's possible that a company would use white for both the early and later time release, it's not likely.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with Actavis manufactured generic Adderall XR. I use Teva manufactured generics. They respond identically to name brand drugs I use to take.

I've recently tried Vyvanse manufactured by Shire. I did not get any results so I am going back on Adderall. My friend takes Riddalin, the price increased from $100 last mo. To $300 this month. Has the price of Adderall increased also?

I have the identical issue of drowsiness and lethargy. Sad thing is I refused Adderall for many years in spite of no other medications working, including every SSRI under the sun for depression. This drug worked! Adderall XR 20 mg and my first script was generic by Global. One month later at CVS, it was the blue ones by Actavis. They suck! Just when I find the answer to my medical issues, I get ones that are useless. Plus my insurance charges me $70 either way, so I guess I'll ask my doctor to write DAW on the next one. She has no issue doing this and is a believer that many generics just do not work. I would've remained on the first kind, but this crap from Actavis cannot possibly be even close to the others. Its such BS they get by with this. Typical Mental Health treatment, if this drug was for blood pressure, or other "medical" issues it won't be tolerated. Those of us with a legitimate true need to correct our brains must not be important!

You are so right!! It is horrible. After reading your post I did file a voluntary FDA report! I tried for 2 weeks to continue this drug-at less than prescribed, 1 20mg versus 2 a day and each day got worse. Thank God my doctor told me to come and get replacement script for brand! I am lucky, but have earned it with years of trust. I have only been on this medication for 2 months, first month was filled with Global and I had excellent results. I was on 20 mg first month and although it didn't last the whole day, it was heaven in removing my ADHD symptoms. I bet this actavis crap will eventually be on the FDA watch list-for whatever thats worth. I have no faith in our FDA to protect us against these generics that are not authorized. I learned so much from researching the differences with them and cannot believe this is tolerated in America! Sad.

I was also given this junk last week. I have fallen asleep on it every single time - it's like I've taken nothing at all. Worse, I have extreme muscle and stomach pain. I'm telling you that there is nothing in these pills whatsoever. I'm so annoyed and I will also be filing a report. I also noticed depression while taking these. I thought it was related to female hormones but now I know that it's probably just this awful pill and whatever junk our piss-poor FDA has allowed them to use. I'm calling my doctor in the morning, and I'm calling the pharmacy to complain as well. The muscle pain I'm having on this is so terrible, I nearly went to the emergency room - then I looked up this pill and realized it's probably related. All day I kept saying that I felt like I was detoxing from the ADHD meds while still taking them. I honestly believe that there's not ADHD meds in this. I'd love to know for sure what these things contain because it's acidic to my body.

We all can't be crazy, I have taken brand Adderall xr, also the generic that came after which were still made by shire for a time and then Teva. The Actavis Elizabeth, and they are not at all like what I had taken prior. The difference is very significant, the fact is they actually make you feel tired and drugged. I have found a pharmacy that has the Global brand but these also are not very good either. I know its not due to tolerance due to drug holidays as well as at times I have taken 1 extra if I felt the need with it working. The brand I am currently taking are much better than Actavis which I don't know what is in them but it can't possibly be the same as Adderall XR. Lethargy is the effect I get from those. It's a shame.

I totally agree with you, those blue ones didn't work for me either. They were half the price of the name brand but when they don't work, who cares. That whole month for me was horrible.

I've been taking the Adderall XR 10mg Brand name for about a year. My insurance will not pay for brand name anymore. I got TEVA from Rite Aid and these things are NOT Adderall. These things are the same color as Shire but they suck real bad!! Do not get Teva. I'm going to CVS from now on even though I've gone to Rite Aid for years. I asked to them to order Global...I'll try anything but that Teva Crap. They said Global is back ordered. Well does the pharmacy want business or crap medication??? DO NOT BUY TEVA. Give them back if you value your mind. I fall asleep on these things. Have to take Yohimbe with it just to stay awake. I'm all scattered too. Anyone else with this same problem???

I take an orange generic Adderall, with no numbers on the pills, just the words k or m (too tiny to read) amphet salts. They don't really do much for me. I am on 30 mg twice daily, and can tell when I haven't had them for many days, but only get slight relief when back on them. I am NOT focused or energetic, and have memory loss issues no matter what.

When you can afford the name Brand it's always the better way to go, look at the roxy's activist makes, they are suspect at best, I'm glad you are doing this, this is not right. People depend on their meds.
