Generic 300mg Xl Feedback

I am a scientist working in pharmaceutics and I want to make sure we have the best generics as Wellbutrin is expensive! To do that I need really straightforward feedback! (specifically on 300mg XL)

If you could list the makers/name of the formulation and your experience: (ie.)
Wellbutrin XL : works
Mylan: works, some pain
Anchen: doesn't work. lots of pain

Wellbutrin contains the active ingredient Bupropion, which is an atypical antidepressant that's also used as a smoking cessation aid, so I am not sure what you are going for with the pain aspect here, since it's not an analgesic of any type.

Thus, you may want to list the generic name and what you're actually looking for, since it seems you aren't talking about considerations that are actually relevant to a medication in this class.

My apologies for the very open ended question.

Bupropion itself is an antidepressant. However, as many have reported, there are many possible side effects with one of them being pain. One of my objectives is trying to link the profile of the generic formulations and try to narrow down what is actually going on in the body. I apologize before hand as this isn't the typical thread.

So to clarify the point above, if I could gather some feedback on different formulations everyone has taken: whether they work for you (efficacy) and whether you are experiencing side effects. Of course, feel free to share anything/concerns.

(From initial investigation, there does seem to be a release profile issue at least with Teva/Impax formulation so I am wondering if this extends out towards the other generics as well. This could mean nothing or something huge. I need feedback as a direction to continue forth! )

Wellbutrin xl- works wonderfully
Mylan- no relief of depression, teeth clinching, headaches, anxiety attacks, irritability.

I have taken varying forms of Wellbutrin for 20 years. As the cornerstone of a bipolar med cocktail (+lithium, depakote, now lamictal). The past eight on the XL in 300 -- 450mg. I have attempted, on several occasions, to take the generic of all earlier formulations, and including the XL.

I have not been able to tolerate the generic in this, mainly due to time release issues, with a major, sometime debilitating spike in anxiety in the middle of the day. Shifting to depression in the evening. This was for both the Watson and the Teva generics (I understand Teva has been pulled by the FDA.). This can happen on the brand, but is much less likely.

Due to non-reimbursement for the brand tier, I went back and tried the SR version. I could tolerate its side effects better than the XL generic, but it does not seem to work quite as well as the brand XL.

Last year I made the decision to pay full price for the brand XL, as it is the only formulation that seems to get it "correct". But, my experience has been that in all such psychiatric meds, that would be only be about 80% of the time.
Even while on these meds, my bipolar depression worsened enough - at times - to undergo ECT.

On 150mg generic, Anchen was great, Watson did not help my depression at all, and Mylan I developed red bumps all over my face, chest and back. On 300mg generic, Anchen was great, Par (which is supposed to be Anchen but is not) I developed red bumps all over my face. Never tried brand.
