Fluconazole For Yeast Infection

Updated

I was prescribed fluconazole for a yeast infection after taking antibiotics. I took the first dose two days ago 150mg. The prescription says to wait 3 days to take the second dose but I am still experiencing the symptoms and want to take it early.

Hello, Sarah! How are you?

For the best results, it is best to follow the prescribing instructions. The medication will not clear it up and alleviate all the symptoms immediately, it will take several days to work. Most prescriptions are just for one tablet, not two.

The FDA classifies Fluconazole as an antifungal medication and its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache and stomach pain.

Is there anything else I can help with?

So my doctor just prescribed me fluconazole 9/18/17. He gave me 4 tablets for a yeast infection I have. His instructions were to take 1 tablet a week for 4 weeks. Yesterday when I took the medication I felt relief for the rest of my day until night-time when I started getting a weird smell from my vagina. It is day 2 now and it's not so much relief. I do not feel the urge to itch or anything but I still am suffering from discharge and a weird smell. I hope this medication helps me within the next few weeks. I also suffer from yeast infections like every month so I'm hoping this is the answer to my problems.

Hi. So for over a month I have had these symptoms. They were lighter and negligible at first but grew stronger to a point that I couldn't ignore them. My vaginal area was very itchy around the labia and vaginal opening. I also noticed my underwear smelling weird, like the discharge was the reason. The smell was a little fishy I guess. Eventually, the itchiness would get so bad that I would scratch myself and develop cuts and bruises in the area which would burn. I never understood what it could be because I only had intercourse with one person for the last 3 years and developed these symptoms only a couple months ago. Yesterday I scratched myself so bad that the skin of my labia was swollen and sore. I looked up everything and found that fluconazole works best for yeast infections. I took one last night (Tuesday) and will take another one on Friday night. This morning I feel much better, I haven't felt the usual itch yet, my labial is not swollen anymore, but I don't know if my discharge still smells, as I haven't had any discharge as of yet. But that also means I'm pretty dry today compared to what it was yesterday where I almost had a watery consistency discharge (I'm also ovulating right now so I'm not so worried about the consistency). This morning my poop smelled weird. The best I can describe it is that it smelled a little milky? I don't know. So far I have been feeling good. I really hope this works or I'll have to go the gynae for an examination. As per what I have read and researched, all my symptoms have pointed out to a yeast infection. It's very less likely it is BV. I hope Fluconazole helps with this. I know it takes at least up to a week for it to fully cure you so I'm being patient.

Re: Suzie (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

If you are having a fishy smell this is more indicative or BV or an STI called Trichomoniasis. Yeast infections would not cause a fishy smell, ever. You can get home test kits that test for BV. It is possible to have both thrush and another infection. But you need to look into the fishy smell, because that is definitely not caused by thrush.
