Financial Help For Oxycontin

Updated

I suffer from severe Fibromyalgia and my Humana Insurance does not cover Oxycontin. Is there help from the drug company so that I can afford this medicine. I have had to start on Oxycodone for the past week and it just does not help the severe pain on a constant level. The Oxycodone makes me sleep all the time and my quality of life is just about bottomed out this week. The Oxycodone does not help with the breakthrough pain. I have been on the Oxycontin over five (5) years with good results, but insurance premium went to $1125.00 per month and my husband only averages about $1500 a month.

Help!

Jackie- Ask your doctor to call/write to the insurance company saying why you need Oxycontin. Insurance co. see it as just another pain killer, not a life saver for those us who hurt. Also - try another time released pain killer, ask your Dr. Kadian is one to consider, it helped me.

Hi I have Humana Insurance as well and they pay for my 20 mg oxycontin ER. What dose are you trying to get? I know they do not cover 30 mg of Oxycontin extended release, why I don't know but wouldn't when my dr. tried to up my meds.

If you have insurance available, most programs will not qualify you for assistance, they make them spefically for people with no coverage at all.

For example, one is PPARX.

You can check to see what they have available, but as I said, most are tailored for people who have no coverage available for essential medications.

Approach the drug manufacturer and apply for assistance. If you get declined, appeal the decision. My husband did and was able to get the Rx he needed. The Rx he needed was $8,100 a month and even after insurance paid the cost was $3,100 which was still not an option. We went through the drug manufacturer for assistance and since he had private insurance he was declined, but he appealed the decision (requires physician and pharmacy info) and was able to get the drug he needs.

I have fibromyalgia that is chronic and a very bad case of it. But I would caution you to be very careful with pain medicines. Not only are they addictive, but they can cause your pain to get worse. When my pain goes off I try to get into a pool of water. Fibromyalgia can have chronic fatigue as well as chronic pain. For me anything that causes drowsiness flattens me. I know each person is different. You might want to search for a Oxycodone users website before you launch into this stuff. The chances of your pain worsening is very real. I know it can be unbearable but you have to weigh the consequences.

DEAR JACKIE H,
CONCERNING THE BRAND NAME 'OXYCONTIN',THIS IS AN EXTENDED RELEASE FORM OF THE ACTUAL DRUG , OXYCODONE. I HAVE HUMANA INS ,ALSO. THEY WILL NOT COVER THE BRAND OF THIS MED. IF U WANT THE BRAND YOU WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT FULL-BOAT RETAIL PRICE OUT OF POCKET. THEY DO COVER THE GENERIC WHICH IS NAMED THE ACTUAL DRUG NAME, OXYCODONE ER WHICH STANDS FOR : EXTENDED RELEASE! I DO NOT KNOW WHICH PLAN YOU HAVE BUT I HAVE A STAND ALONE DRUG PLAN.I HAVE TO TAKE 3 80MG. ER'S EACH DAY WITH EITHER 2 REG. OXYCODONE 30MG. TABLETS PER DAY FOR BREAK-THRU PAIN,[LAST 6 MONTHS OR SO THE REG OXY'S WERE ALWAYS ON BACK ORDER],SO I WAS SWITCHED TO : 4MG. DILAUDID TABLETS-2XDAY FOR THE BREAK-THRU PAIN! I HAVE BEEN TAKING THE OXY'S FOR OVER 6 YEARS NOW BECAUSE OF A MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT BACK IN 1987 WHERE I WAS REAR ENDED BY A JERK WHO WAS TRAVELING 60MPH IN A 40MPH ZONE. HE DROPPED A CASSETE ON THE FLOOR OF HIS RAISED UP PICK UP TRUCK AND WHEN HE RETREVIED IT AND FINALLY LOOKED UP, HE WAS ONLY ABOUT 20 FEET AWAY FROM ME AND HE NEVER HAD TIME TO APPLY HIS BRAKES BEFORE HITTING MY 1 YEAR OLD DODGE DIPLOMAT 4 DR.
NEEDLESS TO SAY,I SAW HIM /WELL THE TRUCK-BECAUSE HE WAS BENT DOWN BEHIND THE DASH BOARD OF HIS TRUCK, AND I YELLED OUT HOLD ON -WE ARE GOING TO GET HIT TO MY WIFE AND TWO CHILDREN ,.I LOCKED UP MY BODY,THEN BAM WE WERE HIT !!!!!! I RUPTURED TWO DISCS,WHIPLASH ETC. HE HIT US FULL FORCE @APROX. 64 MILES PER HOUR IN THE RIGHT REAR. THE REAR BUMPER/TRUNK ETC. WAS BENT DOWN AND WAS RESTING ON THE PAVEMENT,TRUNK WAS PUSHED IN ABOUT 3FEET,THE QUARTERS WERE PUSHED IN OVER THE REAR DOORS WHICH WERE PUSHED IN OVERLAPPING THE FRONT DOORS SO THE FIRE DEPT HAD TO USE THE JAWS OF LIFE TO GET US ALL OUT OF THE DIPLOMAT. HE HIT US SO HARD THAT THE FRONT SEATS WERE IN PERMENET RECLINE,THE FLOOR WAS BUCKLED,THE ROOF WAS WRINKLED,THE DASH BORD WASBENT AND PUSHED UP INTO THE WINDSHIELD AND CRACKED IT!!!!!! LUCKILY WE TOOK THE DIPLOMAT,MY UN-MARKED UNIT[I WAS A LAWENFORCEMENT OFFICER] W A S TO BE EXACT , THAT ENDED MY 8 YEAR CAREER!!! IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE , IF WE HAD MY WIFES VEHICLE. SHE HAD A 1985 PLYMOUTH HORIZIN. A 4 DOOR ECONOBOX. IF THAT WAS HIT LIKE MY DIPLOMAT WAS, OUR CHILDREN WOULD NOT HAVE SURRIVED THE CRASH !! I AM THANKFULL FOR THE ANGEL THAT WAS LOOKING OUT FOR US , THAT DAY !! I NOW HAD TWO OPEERATIONS ON MY BAC TO CORRECT THE DISCS , BUT RECENTLY RUPTURED THEM AGAIN,HAVE STENOSIS, NERVE DAMAGE, AND SOMETIMES I LOOSE MY LEGS AND GO DOWN WITH ALMOST NO WARNING, AND OF COURSE I AM IN CONSTANT PAIN 24/7 @ A LEVEL OF 6 TO 8 AND SPIKES TO OVER 11 +!!!!! THE OXY'S HAVE MOSTLY KEPT THE PAIN FEELINGS TO A MANAGABLE LEVEL BUT THEY ARE NOT WORKING AS WELL ANY MORE. I HAVE HAD THE ER'S FAIL TO DISPENSE THEIR MEDICATION! WHOLE TABLETS PASSED IN MY STOOL.{ AND NO THEY DID NOT, DID NOT, OPEN UP AND DISPENSE. THE ONLY THING THAT HAPPENED TO THEM WAS THE EXTERIOR COLOR COATING WAS WORN OFF THE TABLETS. THE TABLETS WERE SENT TO A LAB TO CONFIRM MY SUSPICIONS OF NOT OPENING UP AND I WAS CORRECT! BECAUSE SOMETIMES I CAN FEEL THEM OPEN UP,SOMETIMES NOT. I GET 3 DIFFERENT RESULTS WHEN TAKING THE ER'S. 1. THEY WORK THE WAY THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO WORK. 2. THEY SEEM LIKE THEY OPEN UP FULLY AT ONCE- MAKING YOU FEEL LIKE YOU JUST TOOK 10 OF THEM AT ONCE. AND THEN THERES 3. THEY DON'T WORK AT ALL!! I KNOW WHEN THEY DON'T WORK BECAUSE MY DEMINOR IS VERRRY , VERY SENSITIVE AND I WILL EXPERIANCE WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS SOMETIMES 2OR3 HORS AFTER TAKING THAT 8 HOUR DOSE. I GET THE RUNNY NOSE,THE YAWNING,THE SNEEZING,MY NEAUSEA GOES ON THE RAMPAGE,I GET THE JERKS IN MY ARMS AND LEGS, AND OTHER WITHDRAWAL SIGNS,THAT USUALLY SHOULD TAKE 24 OR SO HOURS TO DEVELOPE AFTER TAKING THE LAST DOSE OF A NARCOTIC. BUT MY BODY HAS ALWAYS BEEN SCREWY AND VERY SENSITIVE. MOST OF THE TIME I HAVE TO BE GIVEN TWICE THE NORMAL DOSE OF ANY MEDICATION TO HAVE IT WORK CORRECTLY. I'VE ALWAY'S BEEN THAT WAY. HIGHLY RESISTIVE!!EX. A NORMAL DOSE OF A ANTIBIOTICIS SAY 500MG. FOR 7 DAYS. BUT FOR ME I HAVE TO GET EITHER 1,000MG. FOR 7 DAYS ORFOR 10 TO 14 DAYS!!! BUT MY GENERIC OXYCODONE ER'S FOR 90 TABLETS- 30 DAY SUPPLY , RETAILS OUT [VARIES], AT ABOUT $950.00 MY CO PAY IS ONLY $ 7.00 THE SAME ON THE REG. OXY'S AND THE GENERIC DILAUDID[HYDROMORPHONE] . AND IF YOU ORDER REGULAR NON NARCOTIC MEDS FROM THEIR MAIL ORDER RX/SOURCE , YOUR CHARGE WILL BE $0.00!!
I HOPE YOU CAN GET YOURSELF , WITH YOUR PAIN , UNDER SOMEWHAT CONTROL,AND KEEP IT DOWN TO A DULL ROAR!
KEEP ON CHOOGLIN AND I WILL PRAY FOR YOUR PAIN TO SUBSIDE!

Thank you Gary for your information and comments. I was not aware of the Oxycodone ER. This might be an option for me to try. I have heard and seen all the nightmare stories about generics and the ingrediants in them, especially the ones made in other countries. Thank you so much for your input.

Been there done that honey...Oxycontin in any form is not good for Fibromyalgia...The Fibro will not go away and the Oxy just mask's the pain...Please try your local Methadone clinic instead of using that crap...I'm 36 years old and I've had Fibro for over 10 years and I was one of Oxy's first victims...But, I got away after I aquired 1 felony and before it got worse...Please....Anyways the answer to your question is Purdue has a prescription help program based on your income..You need your latest tax forms to qualify the only problem is if you have insurance already and it cover's generic(which I thought they took off the shelf) then you have to take generic unless you can get a prior authorization for name brand medication maybe written on your prescription as Dispense as Written...That's the most information you will find out from anyone...trust me I have too much experience but, I don't recommend it...I'll be praying for you to get away quickly...God Bless...

Jackie, oxy is not the answer, pain meds are not the answer. I know it sucks but think of the future. Say you start at 20mg 2x per day.In six months it will no longer be enough to control the pain and you will have to increase the dose and in six more months the same thing. Now not only do you have deal with a debilitating condition like fibro, your dependant on a pill to get through the day. I spent 10 years on that track and just this year was able to kick it. I know when the pain is at its worst the future seems unimportant. But you must look at the long term when considering pain management. There is not a doctor on this planet that can help you control your pain. IT is up to you to decide how your pain will affect you. Easier said then done trust me I know, I struggle every day just to stay sane in the midst of chronic pain. When those a-hole doctors say it's all in your head, and I know youv'e been told that, if not then your a lucky one, well they are right but not for the reasons they think. Your pain is real, but it's your head that lets it control your life. Teach your brain to ignore, detach or even transform your pain. Meditation, self talk and focusing on the good days ENJOYING LIFE inspite of the pain. Think of it this way, no matter what you do you are going to hurt, why not hurt for a reason. Like doing something you enjoy. Don't let pain rob you of joy. Remember the cycle of fibro, the less you do, the more you hurt, the more you hurt, the less you do. Atleast make the suffering count for something. Taking oxy will just become another way for the pain to control you. have a little faith, walk proud, we shall be free.

Jackie,

There is an online (licensed) pharmacy that had Oxycontin and Oxycodone for cash prices that I find amazing. I have not seen cash prices lower anywhere in the 10 years I have been taking Oxycontin. The President of the company testified against illegal online drug stores and the problems they cause. They also own 5 other different types of stores and are listed on the New York Stock Exchange. The name of the business is Drugstore.com. They are just like a Walgreens except for their prices. I copied and pasted an example of their prices for Oxycodone 30mg HCI which I still am amazed at how low they are. YOU DO NEED A PRESCIPTION and for Oxycontin, etc they have to have it in person. I think I did read that they will accept a fax from your doctor under certain circumstances. Here are their prices for the 30mg Oxcodone. 990 of them only cost a little over $1.40 a piece and the more you order the better the prices (if you can swing it). I wish you the best of luck and let me know if you have figured out anything.

Sincerely,

Jeff (See pasted prices below) Also, there website is www.drugstore.com and like I mentioned they are as real as any Walgreens or other pharmacy.
