Filling An Rx For Percocet, Same Dr. Prescribing

Updated

I was issued 2 scripts from the same Dr. For 10mg/325 Oxycodone. Due to Surgery last week total Hip Replacement! I know I will have to pay out of pocket cause my insurance just filled at beginning of the month. He gave me 2 due to tolerance & going through PHYSICAL THERAPY 2 to 3 times a week! Why won't a pharmacy fill this for me if I am getting them from the same Dr?

Just have the doctor contact the pharmacist and explain the need for the two prescriptions.

The pharmacy already told me that NO PHARMACY WOULD BE ABLE TO FILL the rx unless it was for a different strength!!! This pharmacy is so strict I started filling there a few years ago due to having to go to so many different pharmacies and they didn't have any left! They are now making me wait 30 days rather than every 28 days as I have been doi g for years!!! I think it's all about the POWER TRIP THE PHARMACIST GETS WITH CONTROLE!

Wow that's terrible! I'm so sorry they are putting you through this. I'm sure you've already tried this, but have you explained the situation to your Dr and asked him to possibly re-write the RX? I'll be wishing you luck in getting this resolved!

Its the same dose is why. That happened to me.
I needed "breakthrough" pain medication in addition to the 20MGS of Oxycontin I take every morning.
He gave me 5MG Oxycodone, in an amount of using up to 15MGS extra, (PRN)
Sometimes I just take (2) 5MGS, between 6-7PM and the other 5MGS right at bedtime.
The dose is different so they allowed me to fill it.
Now, if you are on ANY benzo, they write "detrimental" on the script.

I had the same thing happen to me after having my 1st of several major surgeries. I couldn't believe it because I was suffering in severe pain so badly & crying. I tried to have it filled at 2 other pharmacys & both said they didn't have any left & to come back in a month for it !?! All this while I wasn't supposed to be out of bed, took me over an hr to get in & out of my car, I was a complete mess. My boyfriend had to leave his job & help me with this situation, he ended up calling other pharmacys where we live to see if they could fill it. This BS went on all day, I finally got a call back from my surgeon, he had to call the pharmacist directly & for a stronger/different pain medication. This started at 6:30 am, I finally had my Rx filled @8:00 pm. Don't blame the pharmacists, it's the FDA's fault. The have Dr's & pharmacists scared to fill any schedule meds these days with the threat of taking their licenses away since the reformulation of the schedule meds. My dad was a pharmacist & owned his pharmacy before he passed away. I worked for him 12 yrs & know what I'm taking about. Although it's against the law & patients rights to suffer, the FDA doesn't care.

Have you tried an online Drug Company? I use OptumRx. According to some comments some people have had trouble with them. My prescriptions are non narcotic. I have had no problems at all and when I changed from Walgreen's I couldn't believe how much lower their prices were. I use a lot of prescriptions so that really made a difference. There are others that seem to have good reputations also.

Your doctor should know that if the 2nd Rx. isn't different than your original Rx. it will not be filled. Every chronic pain patient who goes in for surgery knows the Pharmacy will refuse to fill it. Even if the Rx is lower, they can refuse to fill.

I used to have problems filling Rx's because of the cashier at drop off, not being able to count to 28. I finally flipped out (on the inside) because my Rx's are written for a 28 day supply, not 30, and called Corporate. I asked what makes this cashier qualified to decide if I can get my meds, blah, blah.

She never gave me a problem after that. I pointed out, to corporate, how she refused to converse with the Pharmacist, who never saw my Rx, as it was refused by an unexperienced cashier.

Unfortunately we need to fight for our rights. And you shouldn't have to pay out of pocket. Your doctor says you need it, he can write it so insurance will pay for it.

I work in a pharmacy and we would not fill them both for you on the same day since it's for the same strength. Did your dr put the same date on both the scripts or did he post date one? Cuz it doesn't make sense that he would give you 2 different scripts with the same dose and date instead of just putting it in one script. At my pharmacy you have to use 90% of the med before you could fill the other script the dr gave you unless the written date on it is over 30 days cuz it expires in my state after that. And it's not the pharmacist fault they r so strict it's cuz so many people r overdosing on C2 opioids that they r coming down hard on doctors and pharmacies! Pretty soon if someone has a limb amputated they will say sorry all we can give you is tylenol

Re: LAK (# 5) Expand Referenced Message

I agree, this BS the FDA and big gov is pushing is making it very hard for those of us with chronic pain. Thanks to the pillbillies and junkies we have to suffer. My doctor is now prescribing me 800mg Motrin after a major surgery for ankle replacement. I am in agony yet he refuses to give me any thing stronger. What do we do, who is there to help us. Any suggestions?

@Tammy...I'm confused as to why your doctor didn't just double the amount & write it on 1 prescription??
Did Dr. mean for the 2nd one to be like a refill & after the 1st one was gone??
If not, Dr. would need to write the 2nd one for a different strength.

Pharmacies are getting REALLY bad about refilling scripts & I have 1 pharmacist @ the CVS here who almost refuses to fill my pain med more than 1 day early; even though according to their app it can be filled 2 days early.

I wouldn't blame the FDA either. The blame lies in those who se their pain meds or abuse them!

Hi again...I'm still confused why your doctor just didn't write the COMPLETE amount of the 2 scripts on one prescription & change the directions on how to take it!!???

HI Tommy, hope you'r feeling better. You had answered your own question. The reason they will not fill them is because of your insurance company "says" they are not due. You might try to call them and tell them about your situation. Or any other way, you will have to pay cash. I know from my own experience. Did you use up all of the the first script according to the way it was prescribed? If you did not, then you may have a chance to have it changed to the new script. That should be possible. Good luck however. P.

Actually, the blame lies with an overgrown federal government seeking to regulate every aspect of our private lives - and for much of the past 100+ years this has included what kind of pills adults may wish to put into their own mouths and precisely how many they may take per day, with no exceptions, ever! Or else they threaten to lock you in a concrete/metal cage with violent criminals for several years. Their euphemism for this is "incarceration" and it's done every day to U.S. citizens who have never committed a violent crime in their entire lives.

Yet for the first 120 or so years of American history there were absolutely NO federal drug laws of any kind, no DEA and no one put in prison for purchasing the drugs of their choice. Were there any drugs? Oh yes, there were plenty of drugs, certainly not all the drugs available today. But in the 19th century there was opium, morphine, coke and marijuana to name a few. And adults could actually purchase many of these in whatever quantity they desired (and could pay for) from their Sears catalog, or their local pharmacy or even a general store, subject only to availability. People were free to follow the recommendations of their family doctor - and a doctor's prescription was just that, a recommendation. Or you could choose to educate yourself about medicine and the human body by reading (or not) and then decide for yourself. Now prescriptions have morphed into legal permits to obtain X amount of a specific drug, and deciding such matters for yourself is considered a very serious crime! It didn't even occur to 19th century politicians that the state could regulate what a man puts in his mouth, and they could see that drugs are not even mentioned in the Constitution (a point to which most of our modern politicians have become blind, deaf and dumb). To prohibit alcohol in the 1920's the politicians of that age at least had the decency to first amend the U.S. Constitution, before embarking on such an odd deviation from American traditions.

So was America in the 19th century a horrible disaster due to drugs? There were disasters to be sure, both natural and man-made. But drugs and alcohol were then available to help soothe the pain of those crushed. While many swear that it's far different from "drugs", alcohol (ethanol) is in fact just another drug, but one that is mentioned in the Bible, given in many Christian church ceremonies as a holy sacrament. and which happens to go well with food. However, some would say that it's one of the most harmful drugs of all when consistently used in excess.

During this free-wheeling time, the country as a whole grew, progressed and invented the future like no other nation on earth and soon became the wealthiest and strongest society in the world - all of this while drugs were easily available and completely legal. One might suspect that we've been tricked, and we have been.

Re: Paul (# 13) Expand Referenced Message

Sorry to say but even if she were to pay cash, the pharmacy still will not be able to fill them both for her on the same day it would be illegal for them to do so if it's for the same exact med and strength. In this case the only thing she can do is fill the one script then fill the other one on the day the pharmacy allows it, some pharmacies allow them to be filled after 80% is gone and other pharmacies it may be 90%. Either way, if she is using the med as directed, she will have enough to last until the next fill and she won't be w/o the medication, she will just have to go back to get it filled. Even if the dr calls and/or writes a new script for a lower strength or for less pills, the pharmacy still might tell her she has to wait until the previous med has been used up to a certain amount before the other can be filled since she should still have a certain amount of pills left from the previous fill.

Re: Kimber (# 15) Expand Referenced Message

I agree! So many people r overdosing from abusing them and now the government is lumping us all into the same group and making it unfair for the people that use this kind of med properly and for legitimate reasons. It really scares me cuz I can't function or get out of bed until my med starts working and if the government has their way, no one will be able to get their meds anymore. I feel that it should be between the dr and patient and if people need these meds they should have a drug contract, only go to one dr to get the meds, only use one pharmacy to fill them each and every time, and the pharmacies should DOPL all the people on these meds to be sure that they r following all these things. But don't punish the people that need them and use them the way they r suppose to

Some pharmacies won't fill what they call "trinity" meds, so if you have a pain med, benzo, and muscle relaxer you can only get two of the three filled

Re: Maria (# 16) Expand Referenced Message

Nobody's answering my question~

WHY WOULD a DOCTOR write 2 PRESCRIPTIONS for the SAME EXACT MED.!!???

If he KNEW that TAMMY was going to need MORE MEDS; shouldn't he have written ONE RX for the SAME AMOUNT as the TWO!!?? And then CHANGE the INSTRUCTIONS so it would REFLECT the EXTRA AMOUNT.

Did I misread TAMMY'S ORIGINAL comment/question!!???
SO CONFUSED!

Re: SheriAmore (# 19) Expand Referenced Message

That's why I was wondering if the dr post dated the script or meant to and didn't. Doctors can give a person 3 different scripts for the same med, dosage, and quantity if they post date them. For example, they give you one that you can get filled today, and then the 2nd is post dated for 10-16 and the 3rd for 11-13. Tammy did not say in her post if that is what the dr did or not cuz it wouldn't make any sense for the dr to give her two different scripts for the same med, dose, and quantity with the same fill date. Any dr should know that pharmacies won't fill them both for her on the same day.

Nothing you stated needs to be treated with opiates. Take your arthritis meds and get your hernia fixed. Numb isn't pain! You seem to be the kind of person we need to weed out, so real pain chronic pain patients can be taken seriously!

Get away from that pharmacy. No chain Pharmacys. Mom and pops are better. This pharmacy is not a doctor. He does not have a license to be one. Run to another Pharmacy.

Have your doctor write on your prescription Brand Name Medically Indicated. Also have him check the box that says Drug Selection Not Permitted. Chances are you will have to have your doctor do Prior Approval for the Brand patchs.

Did you get a copy of the Consultative Examination the doctor did ? You cannot be denied because you are a Christian ? What did the SSA doctor say in his report ?

Do you see your treating doctors regularly ? Have you gotten copies of your medical records and read them ? Did you appeal the decision ?

Well, all I can say is lucky you are getting them and all these shots I get don't work. They don't want to prescribe any opiates for me. I had all kinds of surgery, Total knee, Cervical Spondylosis.there no fix for it, Lumbar Spondylitis no fix either, Osteo and rheumatoid arthritis, Ab Hernia. and an elbow tuck surgery leaving my elbow totally numb and so there are not enough shots they can put in me to help rather than hurt.. I refuse to go back for the shots because they do more harm than good. What do they want, to stick me all over the place? That is where all of my pain is. They do not help but doctors think they do so they don't have to write. So when I feel bad which is just about every 20 to 30 min I've got to lie down until I find a doc that writes. And who knows who does until maybe 15 visits.

Because its the laws. And all these Muslim brotherhood that are working for the government as disability doctors. I was denied disability because I'm Christian. The doctor said he wouldn't see me because I came from church and I had a simple wood cross on my necklace. He said it offended him and that was good enough for the State to Florida to denied my disability claim. What is going on with this country.?

Actually, it's heroin laced with ILLEGAL carfentanil (coming over from China) that addicts are OD'ing on. I highly doubt that the FEW CP patients who get Fentanyl divert it to the streets, right?? Check out all of the CPP's & pain info & advocates. We've had it!!

Re: Need to help (# 71) Expand Referenced Message

I have Medicare only with Humana for prescriptions and I just got a notice about only being able to get a prescription for. 30 days. That is the time I always get. I am worried because is fentanyl 100 mg patch which I need real bad. I have to m sure they do not want me to generic. These people that are abusing this medication and killing themselves is making things hard for us the ones who need high doses of pain meds to make it through the day. It sucks. I was told by a pain doctor a few years ago that out of all people that are in pain only 5% of us actually need a high dosage. I feel for everyone and just hope I am good and stay the same with meds. Merry Christmas to all.
