I have been taking fenofibrate 160mg for almost a year now and I have severe abdominal pain so bad I had to be submitted into the ER and they couldn`t find anything wrong with me. So now I am going to stop taking and don`t care what my doctor says, if the pain goes away I will notify the FDA about this. I did a process of elimination on all my meds and this is the last one on my list. I will keep you all informed.

Hello, Doug! How are you?

Abdominal/stomach pain is a reported possible side effect of Fenofibrate, it is listed in the drug information.

Have you tried any of the statin drugs?

Did you go off of the fenofibrate and did your abdominal pain stop. I was switched to It 4 months ago and have just figured out that it has been the problem with me, causing severe bloating, gas, abdominal pain, confusion. I am 5'2" and small framed but the dr put me on 160 mg and I just realized a statin is combined with my cholesterol meds also. Seems like way to much for my system to handle. Terrible leg cramps in my calf, thighs. My kidney function has also started to decline rapidly. I stopped taking the fenofibrate 2 days ago. I have felt horrible for 4 months and the drs can't find anything. Just realizing it may be this drug is infuriating. Just wondering if you stopped taking it and if you got better and how long did it take to get it out of your system.

I also just started taking this medication. After only a day I noticed that I started having stomach pains right after consuming this medication. The third or fourth day I started having severe upper abdominal pain that felt like being stabbed with a hot knife. I called my dr. And they immediately took me off this med. after being off of the med for a day I am still having abdominal pain. Debating on going to ear and getting checked. Thanks for the info everyone. It really helped to know I'm not the only one.

Re: Lisa (# 4)

Severe, severe abdominal pain. Went for a walk and came inside, almost passed out. On the couch for 4 days. Did not realize it was this med. In pain for 3 months before realizing the stabbing, nausea, nerve pain in the abdominal cavity. It has ruined my quality of life. It started out small and progressed. I pray I do not have damage. Going to my Gastro today to ask for an evaluation. I stopped after I connected the dots. So angry at myself I did not realize sooner. Praying the pain goes away after stopping.
