I have been on famotidine 20 years and just found out that some of my ailment I am having now can be a side affect of taking this drug. I was now told that I should only have been on it for six weeks. Its been every day, twice a day for twenty years.

What ailment are you talking about?

And no, most of these have only been studied and approved for short-term usage, so the effects of using them for prolonged periods of time aren't really known.

I was on Aciphex for 8 years for heartburn, and then found out that it too was only supposed to be used for 8 weeks. I now have osteoporosis at 54 years of age and believe it is due to the aciphex. I wish the doctors would have known this fact instead of constantly renewing my prescription. It makes it difficult for me to take any prescriptions now, because I just don't trust the medicines, or the doctors.
