Does anyone have a list of the medications that can cause false positives? I take quite a few meds and my probation officer said I tested positive. This is impossible. I only take what is prescribed to me, and none of them is on the list of Benzodiazepines.

I had the same issue. However, I requested they have it tested in hospital and it was confirmed that I did not in fact test positive. There are many levels of testers they can use. Insist they test using a higher quality equipment. I almost lost my ability to get medications because of false positives. Frustrating I know!

I am on a suboxone program. Prior to the program I WAS taking benzos. They told me how dangerous it was to use both suboxone and benzos together, so I stopped taking my benzos. I've been in the program for six months, and all I take is suboxone and Zoloft and every UA pops positive for benzos. I went and had a lab test at my PC doctor, and he told me my urine was clean, and that it was probably my Zoloft that keeps giving a false positive for benzos. He said there is no way to be sure but since my urine came back clean from the lab, it was his only conclusion. My suboxone clinic used uses the instant read cups. DO NOT LET THEM TELL YOU THAT THOSE RESULTS ARE CONCLUSIVE!!!! It doesn't matter how much those cups cost they are STILL PRELIMINARY. If there is a question about any false positives the sample needs to be sent to the lab.

Ask them what kind of tests they are using. In my case, they were using the instant read multi panel cups, which are only supposed to be preliminary, they are supposed to be sent to a lab for confirmation if any other substances are found, to rule out false positives because they are so common. If they DID send your sample to a lab, well then you are taking benzos, and it's just time to be honest. If not go to the DR if you're short on funds, they can't turn you away, and get lab tests done.

Ibuprophen is not known to cause false positives for benzodiazepine's.At least in my experience.The only other reason would be a collection and or handling anomaly but that's rare and
Difficult to prove .

You make some very valid points. Indeed Zoloft is known to cause false positives for benzodiazepine's. Any specimens that are considered suspect should ALWAYS be sent to a lab for GCMS confirmation, But to claim first line spec. collection errors are "so common" for false positives is just not true. Furthermore when false positives occur at Methadone clinics it is standard operating procedure for those to claim it must be from Benadryl (aka Diphenhydramine) that caused it. In 12 + years handling these claims I have yet to see one clinically validated.

Valarean root yes but never in 12 years that I have handled these claims has one for Benadryl (diphenhydramine ) been substantiated As per GCMS readings.

I know Zoloft does, but I'm not sure about any others. I take Zoloft, and suboxone and my ua always pops positive for benzos

yes I was in an accent and the police think I was on benzodiazepines and never took them before I was very sick, on a long trip from the Philippines flight back to the states i was taking over the counter meds to try to make myself better, but my doctor gave me ani-bod- ticks which help me a great deal but still have to deal with the police

Did you get proof from the lab or doctor that Benadryl causes false positive for benzos? I have read lots of posts and it doesn't seem like anybody has gotten real proof of the Benadryl causing false positive.

Hello Heather I have been on the MMTP for 21 years and NEVER tested positive for anything but my Klonopin that I’m prescribed for my TBI and panic disorder, GAD,and severe anxiety. My Klonopin dose is very small due to the 115 mgs Of Methadone I Take every day. 21 years is a long time and I’ve been very fortunate that Methadone works for me and I have no cravings. My Klonopin levels are low and checked twice monthly.
Now here is my problem and for the life of me am completely at a loss except for the Accord brand Clonazepam. I tested positive for Alprazolam on my last 2 drug screens. I have copies of the test and they were done by LCMS and my Clonazepam was present but I also had that other drug in my urine. Now I’ve been doing this for 2 decades and my clinic is as strict as a probation officer. I have almost had a nervous breakdown trying to find out first how in the hell did this drug get in my urine and second Twice?? This is a nightmare - the first thing I did was call the pharmacy and I told them what had happened and IF there was any way my medication was manufactured in China and I was told YES the brand I take is from China. So I go on line to find out what the hell is up with these ACCORD Clonazepam and I see where literally thousands of people are having false positives.
For a solid week all I did was stay on line trying to find out more and more about the Accord brand. Also I am disabled from the Marines and don’t leave my room that often due to Agoraphobia and my constant fear of the unknown. I got my take home medication took away and the Clinic isn’t done yet due to this foreign substance in my urine WITH my Clonazepam they are getting ready to discontinue my Clonazepam. Even after over 2 decades of never EVER having a positive drug screen I am at a lost for words I have no recourse except for the ACCORD brand being tainted and not regulated with the FDA. I just don’t know what to do. Yes, there are times where a lot of people say OH NO NOT ME but what do you do when u have the history of that many years clean and you ARE completely INNOCENT!! This has completely devastated me and my counselor.
The first thing I thought of to is look at the people in jail that proclaim their innocence and yet it’s years before the evidence is brought forward and their released. That’s how I feel ! I feel violated accused and jailed and no where to turn. In closing I think this China medication should be blocked or each one FDA approved and from what I’ve read only around 10 % is cleared and the rest pushed thru because of kick backs and Big pharma. This has ruined me, my clean time and my reputation as a client on the program. If anyone else has a similar problem please contact me..., Thank you!!
