False Positive For Benzodiazepines

I have been testing positive for benzos and i cant figure out why. I have been taking suboxone & Ondansetron & promethazine. Thats it. If i fail another drug test, then my doctor is gonna kick me out. If anybody knows of any common substances, prescription or over the counter medications please inform me. Thanks

I checked the prescription medications that you listed, but none of them are known to cause false positives for Benzodiazepines.

However, it can be caused by Benadryl or anything that contains its active ingredient Diphenhydramine, such as Tylenol PM, Advil PM or the store brand/generic equivalents.

There are also many Chinese herbal remedies on the market, such as those for weight loss and relaxation/sleep that have been found to contain them as undeclared drug ingredients.

I took a 9 panel drug test last night for the sober living house i reside in. I came up positive for benzos and am not taking any. I researched online alot about false positives. The only things im taking are suboxen, flexeril, remeron, celebrex , cymbalta, propanolol, and trazadone. The only drug that i can think of would be the trazadone. Many other websites said that trazadone shows up as benzos frequently. This is the first time im actually clean, other than the drugs listed above, and im very nervous about getting kicked out. If anyone knows if the trazadone is the culprit, or any of the other meds im on, could be it please respond and it will greatly help me out.

Could be your flexeril, too. I believe it to be in the same Chemical family as the benzo's.

I had a urine drug test which showed positives for both benzos and oxycodone. I take neither one of them. I am trying very hard to figure out what might have caused these false positives in my urine test... My drugs include the following: Neurontin, Methadone, Cyclobenziprine (generix for flexeril), Prempro, Prozac, Seroquel, Spironolactone, Nexium, Calciitrol, Trileptal, Dodusafe Sodium (DSS), Dulcolax- maybe once every 2 weeks, Miralax and Levothyroxine. My Dr. and I have a drug contract and these positives have me stumped and I need answers... help anyone? Any other sites I should try?

Raven, I am not finding anything that would explain the false positive for Benzodiazepines, but the false positive for Oxycodone might be caused by the Methadone.

Synthetic and semi-synthetic opiates are known to cause false positives for each other on the non-certified drug tests, such as a pain management doctor uses.

The false positive for Benzodiazepines might just be happening due to a combination of all, or some, of the stuff you take.

I took a 4mg of ondansetron (zofran) about 7am. Then i had a urine drug screen around 12pm today that was sent off to the lab. I am worried that it will show up as benzodiazepines, because i was told that alot of meds. for nausea would show up as benzo's on a drug test. Will ondansetron show up as benzo's? I hope not, please help worried to death....

ZOLOFT(aka Sertraline) will cause a false-positive for BENZOS. Apparently more than 20% of the time.

I have been coming up positive for Benzo's everyday for a month. I took 2 valium a month ago. The test show the levels going up every week!! I cant figure it out. I take 150 mg of Seroquel and 25 mg of Aciphex everday. I will be kicked out of my clinic if I don't come up negative. Somebody please help!!!

Confused, Valium contains the active ingredient Diazepam, which is a Benzodiazepine and they can be detectable for as long as 6 weeks, after last dosing.

The exact length of time and the levels of them are going to vary from person to person, depending on your own metabolism, overall health, activity levels and etc.

TRAZADONE can cause a false-positive for benzo drug test in some people. It happened to me, and after gc retest was discovered that i was not benzo-positive as there were no benzo metabolites in my system BUT, analysis showed that my body did somehow breakdown the trazadone into a metabolite similar to that of a benzo that would cause the false positive results. In the end I had to stop taking the trazadone to continue treatment and keep my take home bottles. Oddly, several other people that i know at my facility were also taking prescribed trazadone and had no false-positive results. It aparently is dependant on how one's body breaks down the drug.

I tested positive for benzodiazipines (xanax) 47 ng/ml in a blood test in RI. I've never taken one in my life. Was charged with oui, had .000 breathilyzer. Completely sober. What could give a false positive? I take lisinopril 10mg for blood pressure and a statin ( servastatin ?) for cholesteral and I have a script for oxycodone(percs) that I only take when needed took 30mgs 36 hours before blood test,and that didn't show up.Any possible false positive info would be appreciated.

i kepp coming up positive for benzo in my urine. All I take is fish oil, zetia, centrum senior, tessalon pearls, fiber, and occassional benedryl for allergic reactions. Is there anything in these drugs that could cause a false positive? I have taken 4 urine tests now.

I as well am having a problem with my urine test. I was kicked out of rehab last night b/c I tested positive for benzos.. I went to my doctor with all the comments posted about benadryl, trazadone, prozac, wellbutrin, lamotrigine,bactrim ds, sinus allergy and cold over the counter. I take benadryl for my "anxiety" which I am full of. My doctor and pharmacists state that all my meds will not cause a false/positive... I did another u/a but sent to the lab this time. I am praying for good results. I am also going thru a spiritual awakening right now knowing I can't put much trust in humans nor science. I know my God is real...

Just tested positive for benzodiazepines, and I do not take any benzodiazepines. As a recovering drug addict, testing positive for a drug that you do not take is very troubling. Especially when your freedom and integrity are on the line. What is the explanation of this?

I know how you feel I have been testing possitive for benzo's to and also have not takin them Right now if I fail a drug test I go back to jail and i waived both my speedy trials so I really don't want to break bond if anyone has found out why we are failing for Bonzo's please let me know... I have a 2 year old little girl I am trying hard to get her back and stay out of jail and off drug's.... It really sucks when your doin good and you know you are then something like this happen's ugh I have been taking cold and sinus pills, nyquil and paxil ....and I also took a promethozen but thats been like a week ago

Hi everyone...im 10 days away from end of my detox for subutex due to codeine dep following major surgery. Despite my nurse knowing that in past I've tested +ve for all but cocaine, mouth swab confirming my innocence, I've
today tested +ve for benzos despite having no px for same for approx 6/12. A mouth swab was taken and again ill b proven innocent....I'm sick oof this, these results r entered into my records. and basically I'm fed up of ppl judging me surely the cost of sending a mouth swab for confirmation after a +ve urinalysis would prompt them to investigate continuous false +he's

I'm stunned by all of this, I have been tested 2 both postitive for benzo's and I'm taking Zytimol, Aterax, Molipaxin & Seroquel. I've been kicked out of my clinic now twice!! I'm so angry don't know where to turn, can anyone please help me.

Twilight sedation is usually Versed (midazolam) or another benzo, so yes. Unfortunately so. But tell your doctor that because that means it was legally prescribed for a medical procedure & you didn't take it from the black market or similar.

Took a urinalysis for my ADHD med appointment today. I failed one drug test at the beginning of this year and only get one more 'fail' before I lose my meds for good.

My doctor so gently informed me that the cheap cup test was positive for benzodiazepines, though it could be caused by any number of other meds I take. They're sending it to the lab for GC/MS but my anxiety is going WILD. Here's the list of drugs and supplements I take:

Prozac
Topiramate
Dexilant
Doxylamine succinate
Ritalin
Acetaminophen
Loperamide
Valerian root
Melatonin
Fluticasone
Caffeine
Butalbital (Fioricet)
Bentyl
D-Mannose
N-acetyl cysteine

If you've ever tested positive or known anyone to test positive for benzos because of any of these, please let me know. I'm only seeing that sertraline, oxaprozin & ketoprofen commonly cause false positive tests for benzos along with some anti-retroviral AIDS meds. I don't take any of those. Starting to wonder if maybe some of my OTC supplements could be adulterated? Ugh.

I have taken 2 drug (UA) tests for the conditions of my bond / release from jail. My last 2 tests have came back positive for Benzo's and I haven't used any street drugs, narcotics, or medications not prescribed to me. I currently take Clonidine, Cymbalta, Gabapentin, & Hydroxychloroquine. Is it possible for any of these to give me a false positive? My freedom is at stake.

I was just in a work-related accident and standard procedure is to take a urine test. This test came back positive for benzos but the only thing that I have ever taken is an albuterol inhaler, a ventolin inhaler and Flonase for sinuses. What can cause a false positive for benzos?

I've taken naproxen and chantix out from my normal medications and took a home urine test and 2 of them showed up positive for benzodiazepines. Is this possible? What can cause this false positive?

I failed a UA the other day for Benzos and kept telling doc I take Trazodone and read that may cause a false positive for Benzos. He said its not on any list for causing that to come back positive. Do you know of anyway to prove what you said about some people metabolize Trazodone to show as Benzos? Any help would be great,im sick of being looked at like a liar. I'd love to stick it in his face!

Regardless of metabolism, levels should never go UP unless more of the medication is being ingested. If she last took it 6 weeks ago, levels should be comparable within the first few days but then should start to decrease. Unless, of course, she's still using, which clearly is the case.
