False Positive On Hair Follicle Drug Test For Methamphetamines (Page 8)

I have custody of my two oldest children and their mother has a problem with methamphetamines. I know this for a fact because that's why we separated, but she is claiming that the positive hair follicles that she has taken and failed are all because of her asthma medicine. Are there any asthma medications that cause a false positive on both methamphetamines and amphetamines on a hair follicle test??

It takes about 5-10 days for the hair to grow above the scalp so it can be cut for a hair drug test. Most hair tests don't test for methadone but it all depends on what lab is doing the testing. A hair drug test is meant to show consistent use over time. A 1.5 inch sample will go back 90 days.

I am a painter and work with acetone, acrylic urethane gloss enamel catalyst, waterborne strippable booth coating, methyl, lacquer thinner, xylene, Oem finishes, dry enamel, which many of them contain toluene, benzene, ethylbenzene pigments, methanol, xylene, and there are many more chemicals. Could it be possible to test positive in a hair follicle because of sensitivity?

I have taken drug tests and mine came up positive for many things that I did not take. I went and had a hair test done and was clean. Everyone please be careful. The courts and drug testing facilitys can screw you. If I didn't know to do the hair test I would have went to jail for 40 days.

I recently came up positive on a hair follicle test for methamphetamine. I have never used methamphetamine. I don't like it and wouldn't touch it. I'm not sure where it came from. I am absolutely at awe at the results and am at a loss of what to do...

Most hair tests will be reported as pg/mg (pico grams per milligram). I would have to see the results to give a better answer. But if 5ng is the cutoff level the lab started at and you tested at 117 you were considerably above the cutoff level. Urine testing is usually reported as ng/mL (nano grams per milliliter) so it hard to say exactly what is going on. Did they give you a printed report?

I guess I would start by asking if you signed and initialed a chain of custody form. If not maybe they mixed up your sample with some other person's hair. You could ask for a re-test or you could do your own Hair 5 Drug Panel test.

Yes, albuterol will show a positive. I tested positive while in rehab and they explained it wasn't my inhaler.

I’m pretty sure it’s a remote possibility for urine results to produce this kind of false positive, but not in hair testing. As long as all accredited procedures where used to collect your hair, and it was properly packaged and chain of custody observed, and the lab is up to scratch and certified for their quality control methods and accuracy...the only thing you can request is for the B sample to be tested also. If these results are confirmed and reflect the first test then it won’t be easy to legally contest the results. If they don’t agree then the sample and/or testing procedures were somehow contaminated and the results must be disregarded. All labs and equipment and staff should comply with the required quality standards/laws otherwise it’s an unreliable process to base any legal decisions on. A lot is at stake and results must be as unimpeachable and accurate as is possible or deemed acceptable in the relevant legal forum. You should be able to investigate the lab they use, is it accredited, is it up to scratch, did they follow EVERY SINGLE procedure in accordance with the standard. Any possible omission, however minute or slightly out of order means the integrity of the whole process can be legitimately and legally challenged. They will then have to satisfy the legal requirements and prove that their process is without unacceptable flaw, and the result is reliable, valid, and accurate. I’ve seen results thrown out on the tiniest bulls*** technicality!!!

I double checked my Australian standards and industry data sheets for all known cross reactions/false positives for both methamphetamine and amphetamine in hair testing and if there is no lawful grounds to challenge the integrity of this finding, the result is confirmed, valid, reliable, unimpeachable on any technicality.... If all these criteria have been satisfied then I’d have to say, and cannot find any credible evidence that this result is a known false positive or through an idiosyncratic biological f***ery reaction never seen before or so rare as to be unverifiable, I’d have to say it’s accurate and she’s full of s*** basically. The testing methods are extremely advanced and they can easily distinguish between all of these substances present individually and to a high degree of sensitivity. It’s there coz she used methamphetamine at some point, and took enough to register above the tolerance thresholds for those particular substances and no other reason.

Hi. I took a drug test for cps last Tuesday February 13th, 2018. It was a UA and hair follicle test. My UA came back clean but my hair follicle came back positive for Methamphetamine (level 300). I've never used Methamphetamine in my life. I was in a car wreck and was prescribed Tylenol 3, Soma and Naproxen, and I also had the flu and was taking Theraflu due to me being sick. Can you please help me understand this Bs? My kids have been gone 4 months and i need my kids back. Please give me some kind of understanding. I'm going to take my own test this Thrusday and see the results myself.

My 4 year old grandson tested positive for methamphetamine in a hair follicle test by testing 9,108 pg/mg for methamphetamine. What does this level mean?

That level means your 4 year old grandson has been given methamphetamine, probably, every day over a 90 day time period. If that was the parent(s) that give the child methamphetamine the child should be taken away from the parent(s) immediately. The child needs to be under medical care while he is going thru withdrawal from methamphetamine. The child SHOULD NOT have any contact with the person(s) that gave him the meth. This is a very dangerous situation that needs to have immediate action taken. If that was the parents who gave the child methamphetamine they need to be tested also. Bottom line, get the kid some help soon, even if it means a court order to remove him from that environment.

I came up positive for Methamphetamine and Amphetamines on a 14 panel nail test and take adipex, albuterol inhaler, valium, lomotril, temazepam, allergy meds otc including flonase and all the otc allergy meds, and a few diff antibiotics in the last year. I also have hep c. I’m so mad and upset. I’m going to have another test ran but in the meantime I’m not allowed to see my daughter! I DO NOT take anything that’s not rx’ed to ME and I drink. Which is legal. I just want to cry. I’m being labeled as a drug addict and I am far from it! Good luck! My attorney even suggested I take a polygraph and I agree. Something is very wrong with the test.

The albuterol might show up as Amphetamine on a drug test. Not sure about the Methamphetamine. You might contact an MRO (Medical Review Officer). An MRO is a doctor trained to interpret drug test results and say what might be causing a false positive. An MRO would also testify in court. They have an association web site (aamro.com) where you can do a search for an MRO in your area. I have no connection with this web site. I would suggest getting a Hair 5 Drug Panel test to see what turns up. It looks like the combination of some of those meds might cause a false positive for something.

Now im positive that the social service department is corrupt because with your confirmation of what those levels mean, it just proves that his test results are false because my grandson was taken away from his parents & placed with me. He was in my custody for a little over a month with no contact with his parents, per social services, when they came & said they wanted to do a hair follicle. My daughter was arrested for child endangerment and felony abuse of a child because of the results and I'm 100 percent positive my grandson wasn't given methamphetamine at least a month and a half prior to the test because he was with me every single day & he definitely has not gone through any kind of withdrawal or has shown any symptoms of withdrawal in any kind of way!! I dont know what to do or how to prove the results are wrong but I'm positive for a fact that they are now.

Wow, I don't know what to tell you. The only advise I can give you is I could do a Hair 5 Drug Panel test that would only go back 30 days, but the collection has to be done properly. Every half inch of hair will go back 30 days so I could do a 30 day (half inch sample) or 60 day (1 inch sample). What was the date collected in the test in question?? Who knows if that was even his hair?? Do you have a copy of the chain of custody?? Do you have a printed report or did they tell you the level??

Dont know the date collected or no documentation at all. Social services told me on March 13, that hair follicle was done & it usually takes 2 weeks for results. Next thing I know my daughter is being arrested & charged for child endangerment when her and felony abuse of a child & in the criminal complaint it gives the level for methamphetamine. That's all the info I have. If I demand a retest, if its possible, what are your recommendations?

I took a 5 panel hair test and came back all negative. On the toenail test I wasn’t over the cutoff level to be positive which was 500pg/ml. It read methamphetamines 356pg/ml and amphetamines 109pg/ml. But yet they still called it a positive?
