my girl got a severe cold, nasal congestion , and caugh in the last month of her pregnancy . after looking on the net to be safe , she started taking sudafed, robatussin and other over the counter meds. for her symtoms which are still present . today she gave birth to my son 7lbs 8 oz, and both her and my son tested positive for amphetamines. wtf!!! the nurse is sending the first stool for testing aswell . as you can imagine she is a mess... she has been takeing these meds for a month. so i can only assume the stool test will be positive aswell, are these meds taken into consideration during all tests .neither her or my son are showing signs of withdrawls .. what can we do .. thanks

My newborn tested positive for methamphetamine and I didn't. The doctors and nurses told me that I was even tested until 48 hours after my son, and that methamphetamine can pass through your system in 2 or 3 days. Meaning my test meant nothing. My baby was sent to the NICU for swallowing meconium, then was kept to check for withdrawals, then for his breathing. His release date changed three times before the doctors told me they were waiting for the meconium drug screen to come back. I was released from the hospital after two days, and visited my son all day every day. I was at the hospital from 9am to 9 pm. They wouldn't help me with pumping breast milk and once they finally did, wouldn't feed it to him. DHR came to see me in the hospital. The case was opened. A "safety plan" was made. We had a home visit. And my mother (not me) had to take a drug test (and passed). The meconium test came back negative. After ten days of being at the hospital 12 hours a day, never me not my son showing any sign of withdrawals, yet still being treated like an addict, my little boy was finally discharged. He is now 5 weeks old, we still have an open DHR case, and when I applied for food assistance while in maternity leave, I was informed I have been charged for some sort of drug use. All without ever emitting signs or symptoms of drug use or ever being tested more than that one time. I haven't been able to breastfeed, we had latching and production issues. It broke my heart moving to formula. I feel very ashamed that this happened to me, as if I could have prevented it somehow. I haven't told anyone but my husband and mother because I'm afraid of what people will say or think of me. All I can do now is wait on another home visit from DHR and hopefully they will close the case.

First of all I'd like to say I'm so sorry and also congratulate u on your sobriety. I have also came up with a false positive for methamphetamine and have been doing a lot of research online ever since. I know now that my stomach pill ranitidine is the culprit of my problem and that it causes false positives. I would check into your medicine and if it's not that it is the drug test it self .. They are not 100% accurate. Do some research online and u will see and also be amazed at how many people come up false positive for a drug that they have never done.

im a stage 4 cancer pt, i take oxy, methadone, get chemo 1 a week, take effexor xl, neurontin and lopressor, otc advil. recently took a urine drug screen and came up pos for methampheines, not sure if i spelled it right, however i have never used any drugs otc or street or prescribed until i was diagnoised with cancer. how does this happen? all i have is my word, the doctor called me a liar, suggested maybe i had multiple personalities, and that one of them was using without the other knowing, and called me a drug addict!!! i left that office with my head spinning, i was crying i was so upset, the sample is being sent to the lab for further testing, im waiting for the results. how long will this take? why would something lie this happen, and how do i prove that i have never did this or any other street drug? looking for some answers, is a doctor allowed to treat a pt. like this?

This happened to me 8 years ago. It shouldn't be in your baby's stool, only urine. The meconium has to be sent off, it will exonerate you. I've read several other accounts of this happening. I want answers. This is a gross injustice, and a violation of the 4th amendment. They're laboring us with something flagging a false positive, then treating us like addicts. I went through a 2 month long DHS case before it came out the entire thing was completely unwarranted. I hope you ladies are cleared. This is wrong and needs to be stopped.

I tested positive while in labor and never touched anything or took anything but tums during pregnancy. When i was in labor i tested positive for amphetamine and as a result they would not give me anything for after birth pain and also got dcfs involved. They removed my 3 other children from my home and refused to release the baby from the hospital. I would like to know how often things like this can happen and what i can do about it because the hospital seems to think i'm an addict even though both me and the baby show no signs of withdrawal and the results were from one test. They had to send the samples from the baby away when they were able to have my original result immediately and they refused to retest me so to me something definitely doesnt seem right here and i'm being victimized and don't know what to do about it. It's the worst feeling when you did nothing wrong but are being accused and have no proof. I just want my baby home in my arms i'm missing important bonding time with him. This test has ruined my life as of right now.
