I take 600mg a day of Benadryl that is the only drug I take.Why is my urine coming back as positive for benzodiazapines?

Absolutely not I am on methadone and I take benadryl for allergies I have like 400 tests and they are all clean :)

I have been on a methadone program for almost two years and I take 15 tylenol PM's every morning and every night. So 30 total I know that's a lot so please don't say that haha...SOOO I have never been dirty EVER..the other day I had a charge on my account and I asked what it was for and they said it was for a dirty urine!! I was pissed I asked the nurse what I came up dirty for and they said Benzos. Ummmm here's the issue I don't take them...so she is sending a urine out to have it done with a GC/MS machine. Idk what else to do. But my question is what is the reality of tylenol pm causing a false positive? I just need real answers ya know. Thanks y'all!!

Actually my methadone clinic tells us not to take nenedryl because it caises false positive drug scteens fr a few things benzodiazepines amphetamines, and pcp is what i was told and seems to be true when i looked it up

I tested positive for benzo. Sent to the lab. It came back as ONLY serex. I don't use this or any benzos. I take oral steroid, flxerial, robaxin, naproxen, and aleve pm at night to help me sleep. Can any of these show up as serex? Please help me find a answer...

I'm in a methadone program program, and all i was taking was benadryl, and i had a dirty urine for benzos. i paid to have it sent out for gc/ms confirmation, and it came back negative. dont listen to the i**** above who said it cant happen. ive been in the program for about a year, and was taking a lot of diphenhydramine to sleep every night. i was tested twice a week at random, and it only came up dirty once; so it does happen. it was a false positive.

I just had a uds come back positive for benzos and also took benadryl the 2 nights prior to the test. I am on suboxone which i was off of for 4 days before because i had teeth removed and tylenol 3 for pain. Other than the benadryl, t 3s, suboxone, i had a toradol injection and methylphenidate in my urine. I was positive for amphetamines (from prescription methyl.), buprenorphine ( suboxone), opiates ( codeine in tylenol 3), and benzodiazapines?? I have not taken that. I believe one of these, benadryl most likely can cause false positives! I wish I knew how or how to prove.i didn't take any of them. They highly frown upon benzo use while on suboxone or methadone!

Benzos can stay in you system for over a month. I go to a methadone clinic and I still tested positive after 35 days of not taking any. My levels were really low by then though.

15 (FIFTEEN!!!!!) Tylenol PMs twice a day!?!!?? That is a MASSIVE overdose. Either you don't know the dose your taking, or that's a total exaggeration. If you are taking that much, you'll be in liver failure soon. Benadryl is not the only medication in that drug....Tylenol
Is the other. 3500 mg in a 24 hour period is the max safe dose. Holy crap

I am in the methadone program and the doctor told me not to take benadryl because it can cause a false positive for benzos. If I were you stop buying Tylenol PM. I buy generic benadryl and it only costs me 4.00 plus change for a bottle of 100 CT. I have hep c and can't take Tylenol at all. I am going to continue taking my benadryl every night because I can't sleep otherwise. And if I test positive for benzos I will just demand that it be sent out for testing. So that they can see it was a false positive.

Yes it's dihyphadramine (benadryl) I'm in the clinic and just tested positive for benzodiazepines and had to pay $30 to send for confirmation.results negative! I was pissed because I was penalized(until confirmation) for using and didn't even get the chance to actually take ANYTHING!Lol was told not to take anymore generic sleep aids

I never take more than 3 25mg tablets at a time.so you don't need several.however I take them very consistently and have only had 2 false positives for benzodiazepines from them in a year and a half.so it's by no means every time you take it.and it also depends on the testing done.most clinic's do a dipstick test and these are where most flaws are.Better testing has less mishaps.it comes down to if you know you didn't take anything,or think it has to be out of your system by now but u still were positive for benzodiazepines,this is one thing that will cost that and you simply demand confirmatory (re)testing of the sample.

I tested positive for benzos and wasnt taking them and i have to somehow prove this because it has to deal with cps and my newborn son. However they are being very weird with letting me see this drug test . How do i convinve them this is a false positive and im innocent. Its very important because it has to do with my newborn son.

I am in the same situation for a false positive for benzos due to benadryl. It has to be the benadryl cuz thats all i was taking. But they threw out my sample before a confirmation test was done. A**holes. As a result of there negligence my first baby who is five weeks old is currently not in my care and i am absolutely heart broken. I did in the past have a drug problem but was clean my whole pregnancy and still am. I think they are targeting me cuz they know my history. I have worked so hard on my recovery so to be falsely accused n not have my son right now due to it is horrible. I go to court in a few weeks and im hoping that because a confirmation test was not done it will be inadmissible in court. I am innocent n this all has taken a huge emotional toll on me. I know what you r going thru.

Good for you. This a more significant measure. I do not think half of the readers on this site know what we are trying to do in educating them on appeals. They might be wanting to somehow get around the test results because they are violating their commitments regarding drug abuse. I am no longer going to argue my case. If you are not guilty of taking a drug that shows up then read what others are telling you to do to prove you are false positive, if you are bull sh--ing then stop wasting this informative post to help and advise others. There is another contradicting discussion presently asking the exact same question. Fifty percent say no and the others including me say yes from my personal experience of always showing Methadone. I do not take Methadone. Maybe there are Benadryl's manufactured with different ingredients that only a Pharmacist will have that information, or ask this website. That and different tests are being given by different pain management facilities. Appeal your results but having blood work performed immediately for Methadone. If the blood work shows no Methadone give the results to your pain doctor to prove their results were a false positive. Next appointment, I would go to your PCP and ask for blood work looking for Methadone and explain why. Make sure the time frame is revealing results close to your pain physician's urine test. You will have to prove that the last test was a false positive and make them change your results to false positive, make a copy of your blood work and give pain physician a copy for your file. If you are discharged contact your State, Consumer Protection, Dept. of Health, Licensure Dept., and file a complaint. It may take a year to be resolved and you will not very likely be brought into your group. But, you do not have those results in the DATA Bank for the Federal Government. Good luck. And if you do find the other discussions concerning your questions do not engage with their conflict.

First of all, that is way too much Benadryl. Not sure why you are taking that much but that's borderline abusive. If this is an allergy issue there are many other medications that are much more effective for allergy relief that don't cause the sedation that Benadryl causes. In response to your question, Benadryl especially in high doses causes false positives for benzos and sometimes PCP. With 600 mg a day, this is definitely in the high-dose category

I took 7 benadryl yesterday I know that's a lot but allergies here are really bad had allergies horrible for years since childhood and I take them to sleep at night or I can't sleep so four during daytime and three at night.I have a drug test (ua) today am I gonna come up positive for benzos

Look I had a false positive come up on a crap charge someone called CPS on me a few years ago, I knew for a fact I was clean. I took 2 mouth swabs back to back and both came back with same false results. I told them I wanted a hair follicle test because their test was wrong. That put all their stuff on pulse until I could get the hair test and prove my innocence. If you're really clean tell them you want that test cause theirs is false. Until that test comes back they can't try to do anything legally on your case. They can keep things how they are at the moment but as I understood it you have the right to prove your innocent and the test is wrong exspecially when it comes to your children.

Please do not claim that just because it does not happen to you that it does not happen at all. Not only does it happen, It is well documented that Diphenhydramine WILL cause false positives for Benzodiazepines; period. It is well known and documented. As I have said before there are many factors such as liver function and the presence of factors such as Hep B and C that should be taken into consideration when testing falsely positive for Benzodiazepines. Basic enzyme immunoassay (EIA) is notoriously unreliable as a first-pass positive diagnostic tool. If you test positive for Benzodiazepines and you consume anything with Diphenhydramine in it, ask for a confirmation gas chromatograph mass-spectrometer test, (GC/MS). This will hopefully vindicate you. If you know you have an upcoming urine screen try not to consume anything with Diphenhydramine the night before. If your tests are random you might want to try switching to something without Diphenhydramine. I know that some places they don't charge you for confirmation tests and some do.

Diphenhydramine will actually cause a false positive for methadone ..not benzodiazepines. I test positive for methadone and not benzodiazepines when I have to take 200 mg of diphenhydramine throughout the day for allergies.trust me, I'm drug screened by the Feds

You would be amazed at how unreliable basic (EIA)Enzyme Immunoassay is which is the standard first pass drug test. If you take anything at all no matter how innocuous, make sure to clue in whomever is testing you.

I take zoloft, and topamax. And the Zoloft is what had to be the medication that caused my false positive for benzodiazepines. I had a screen done for a job. Still waiting to hear from the owner if I get the job, but it's a rehab facility, and they didn't rescreen, or send out for further testing. I already work at a State Correctional Facility, that does random drug screens, I would not risk my job or my license as a nurse.
