False Positive Benzodiazepines (Page 2)

I have been taking suboxone for almost a year and had to move to a new doc. They drug tested me and said I tested positive for benzos. The funny thing is I have not taken ANY benzos. I have to go take another test today at 5 and I am scared s**tless cuz they said if benzos are still in my system then they can not see me. Knowing that I haven't taken any benzos makes me wonder if I might still test positive for it again. I did take some cough syrup and some percs but that is it. What could cause this?

Interesting 'reverse' reply - Klonopin often does not show up on standard Benzodiazepine tests and must be tested for separately. Just an FYI if you go in for Klonopin detox as I did and they doctor claimed to find none when I'd taken about 14mg a few hour earlier.

Hey Saf Sorry I just logged in now and saw your msg. I echo what you are saying 100% The odds are stacked against us and its sooo frustrating when you are telling the truth with no reason to lie. I hope things worked out ok for you Im in Canada and we had suboxone for a time *Ive never had it* But I dont believe we have it At least not at the clinics here.

Any of you taking heroin or any other street drugs, you may find they are cut with benzoes, also if your buying meds from online pharmacies many of the fake tabs around contain benzoes so some possible answers but i think the most interesting evidence someone posted above was the fact about the testing kits being up to 50% inaccurate and showing false positives, can someone post a link to the actual research that was done on this? i am sure this would help your cases no end. As many of the community drug teams use those instant testing kits which are very cheap.

Another possibility, are the testing centers giving you brand new containers to put urine samples in? or washing out old ones? just a thought.....

I tested positive for amphetamines once while in a detox and got thrown out, i had not taken any speed or any amphetamines at all. So sad how these testing kits effect peoples lives. I am pretty convinced that most of these positives are coming from the testing kits used. You might ask they carry out a test on their testing kits by getting none users to give samples.

Poppy seeds can test positive for opiates as can diaorrea tablets which have loperamide in which is an opiate.

Someone mentioned having their doc threaten to take them off weekly pick up if they tested positive, doctors should not be able to do this, it is punative and wrong. If this is happening to you look up the UK methadone alliance for help, they have letters you can download to give to your doctor.

I had all these probs when i was younger and it's the last thing u need when your trying to get stable, as an addict your stigmatized by doctors alot of the time and they think that we are all lier's. Luckily i now have a good doc and am on weekly pickup and have been for several years.

im having the same problem im in a methadone clinic and have only been there for three months i am on nothing else there is no way i could have anythng cause a false pos for benzos so my belief is that is was human error. dirty equipment or something like that but how do i get someone to look into this? they just started usuin new saliva ones because they said ppl were getting away with using benzos with the old saliva ones but the numbers are crazy 32ppl out of 60 test positive in one day?? wtf is really going on how to i get to the botttom? i even asked didnt they think the numbers were awfully high theysaid no that there just catching all the ppl omg i know i am crystal clear and regardless if i pass the next ten tests im ot letting this rest ive seen to many ppl bein screwed over in the last week to let it go but how do i start? where do i start? the lab where they get the results the ppl the lab answer to? idk

Okay, when a lab is not required to use certified tests, such as those that would be required for federal government jobs, they often go with the test provided by the cheapest bidder.

Unfortunately, it is known that these non-certified tests can cause false positives anywhere from 4 to 50% of the time.

And the other things you have to keep in mind are that some of them will cause false positives even if you weren't taking anything else, at all. On top of that, there are also over the counter products that can cause false positives, including some common cold and flu products.

Unfortunately, like many other people on our site have discovered, you really don't have any recourse to go after anyone, or do anything. Since they aren't required to use certified test, they are free to just trust the results of whichever lab they chose to use.

One of my friends took a p test and it said he had benzos but he didn't take any but he said he took advil,,so maybe its the advil that throws it off. Idk how or why.

Ibuprofen is actually known to cause false positives for THC/Marijuana use, not Benzodiazepines, but as I have stated before, on the cheaper, less reliable tests, it seems anything is possible. False positives are known to occur on them anywhere from 4 to 50% of the time.

Methadone is very similar chemical structure to Benzodiazapines...I know someone who was on Benzodiazapines and his test showed up positive for Benzodiazapines and methadone...I read and article that stated that benzodiazapines used in methadone program caused 74% of deaths ..these drugs are poison, they are not there to treat you, they are killing you slowly...MURDER

Yeah Methadone is C21H27NO and Benpropadine (Also known as Cofrel) a cough and cold depressant has the exact same chemical structure C21H27NO holy cow! they are giving Methadone to f***ing children!!!

I tested positive for benzos and Im not taking them! I currently take kadian and cymbalta. The only other things I have taken are a 5 hour energy drink at work because I was tired at work a couple days ago. I am baffled as to why I tested positive for benzos. I was looked at like I was lying when I said I hadnt taken any! Im going to ask my doc and my pharmacist about this too. I mean if there are so many false positives for benzos I think something should be done about it and it needs to be made clear to people testing that false positives are possible. peoples futures and lives are at stake. If there are drug interactions that may cause these false positives that also needs to be made clear!

I recently had a drug test come back positive for benzos, my drs office said oxypan. I have no idea what this is or why i would have tested positive for it. I currently take Adderal, hydrocodone, amitriptyline, benicar, and sometimes sudafed and doxylamine succinate otc qeneric sleeping pills and nyquil. any idea if any of these could test positive for this?

Ive learnedly it doesn't matter if ur an x addict or never been on drugs when u show a positive on a drug test u have been labeled especially with Dr.s.. I had gone into the hospital because they think I had a mini stroke. Well they got all the tests back and the first Dr. Came in and began being so hateful and mean to me as he was telling me I tested positive for Meth. As he continued being hateful the other doctor which was reading my chart pulled him out the door. Then they both came back in and now I'm being treated like a king. Their bedside manner was on overload, then they began to explain that the Colozapam can cause a false positive on a drug test for Meth. At first I was relieved but then I was a little upset because how many people are judged with false positive tests and treated like crap. I'm sure a lot well I thought thank God but the damaged had not happened yet. I was in court for my disability case and what info do u think they had. Yep, that I tested positive for Meth at the hospital. Nothing saying anything about the Colozapam being the issue. So do u think I received my Disability. Ur right nope. They didn't care what I said cause I had no proof. But I do now thanks to y'all.

Sorry buddy. Taking clonazepam WILL show up as a benzo. It just takeslonger to be metabolisedand excreted. Most drugs actually take 4-8 hours beforethey will show up in urine.

Took a drug test at a temp employment place the other day and the 2nd line for methamphatamine (sp?) was positive. No big deal i told them it was probably my anxiety pill. Hell i dont know and wasent worried, I called them with the name & such when i got home. I also called my pharmacist to ask while waiting on them to answer me. The pharmacist said no that wont show up but have you taken any cold meds or cough syrup. I told her no not recent enough for this test. She then asked if i take stomach acid pills, ii said well yes i take one everyday. She asked what kind i said Zantac 150, she said that was it, it can show a false/positive. Thats wierd to me but hell i dont even know what methamphatamines are. I called the ppl back told them, they called back saying that wasent it according to their doctor& that i may have to retest. Heres all i take when i need to and that would have been in time for that drug test, but why would they keep telling me different than my pharmacy?? Ok i take weekly if not daily zantac150, Aleve, Mucinex, Allegra and my anxiety pill-generic for Celexa-citalopram. What is your opinion? Thanks

I have been on suboxone for over a year for a huge narcotic addiction. Suboxone saved my life! My sister is in drug court ( a program you may be able to enroll in exchanged for a reduced sentence). Drug court participants get drug tested at least 4 or 5 times a week. My sis doesn't take anything illegally, failing a drug test could cause you to be kicked out of the program and returned back to jail for the rest of your time. Her urine screen just tested positive for benzos!! And she flipped out! They asked what she had taken and she said all she had taken was generic tagamet ( a heartburn pill you can buy anywhere). She gave her drug counselor the tagamet bottle with the remaining pills and they sent it to the main lab for further testing. Results came back, that it was the tagamet that caused her to test positive for benzos. They also said to be careful when taking stomach pills because several of them cause the same result. Have you taken anything like that? Hope this helps

Thanks Jess..sounds like what is happening to me. .I take my test again on monday. I cant wait to prove them wrong and i hope they do send off my urine so they relize that stomach pills can do that..those jerks
