Facet Joint Injection

Anyone here ever have any experience with a facet joint injection? My pain management doctor is pushing one very hard, but I have my reservations.

What specific issues are you worried about? And what will it contain? Can you please post back and clarify?

The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including administration site irritation, redness, itching, nausea, and headache.

It's fine. I had my reservations too. In fact I had canceled my first appointment that I made. But I just had mine done about 7 hours ago. It's quick. It's virtually painless and there's no after pain. At least not in my case. And I consider myself to have a fairly low threshold of pain tolerance. That said, I do get the feeling that these doctors are quite possibly performing these procedures simply for a payday.

Hi Jon - what did he give you in the injection for the treatment? A close friend of mine had to get an epidural shot in his back for pain mgmt after an injury. Apparently it helped him for weeks after. I don't believe it was an opiate of any kind though ... if I remember correctly he said it was a steriod type drug (anti inflammatory). Is that what you were given too? How are you feeling now?
