Finding A Doctor Who Writes Small Dose Of Methadone So I Can Take Anxiety Meds

I currently go to the methadone clinic in Knoxville but told them I had drug history so I could get methadone and its just b/c it is the only thing that works for my pain, nothing else works b/c I seem to not be able to take enough of the roxys and morphine but can take 30 mgs of methadone a day and still hurt but am able to live a functional life . I had a MVA and had 12 major surgeries on my right leg, as well as bone grafts, etc. I currently am taking care of my 78 yr old frailing mother who is slightly mental(but who isn't) she has slight bi-polar but anyways I am extremely bi-polar and am on lithium 300 mgs but am experiencing EXTREME agitation, EXTREME anxiety, because I am the baby of 7 kids and NOT one of them is helping me with her I am also undergoing hep c treatment and need to be able to take something for anxiety . Well, the clinic will NOT allow you to do so because other people abuse it. I have NEVER had a dirty drug panel for them and have been enrolled for yrs this month and get monthly take homes. I previously took klonopin for anxiety before and it worked but I didn't take it every day and most of the time only took half the recommended dose as I realize everyone will encounter some anxiety and some pain. Life isn't free of this but also I only get a check for SSI and the methadone costs me over half my check, which I think is ridiculous, b/c a generic 90 supply of methadone costs about $13 to $16 . this being said I need a doctor who can write 30 mgs. and klonopin, can anyone help me I live in Knoxville, tn in west knoixville and feel like I am losing my whole world due to so much stress to which I cannot do anything about, I have tried meditation,I still pray several times a day to God, I swim and exercise on regular basis , read good literature, and have went to meetings for help, NONE of this after 2 yrs is helping I need the anxiety meds every once in a while if possible. I mean I cannot even handle going out to the store for milk, or bread I get so stressed . I am keeping up with all her appts as well as mine and overlooking a lot of appts I need to be making for myself because I cannot do it, I am running 2 households. HELP, PLEASE I AM SO STRESSED I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!!

Hello, Ami! How are you? I am very sorry about everything that you're dealing with.

However, since you've been going to the clinic and that is listed in your medical records, regardless of why you went, no regular doctor will be able to prescribe Methadone for you, due to the current treatment laws. Your only option there is to continue going to the clinic.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Does anyone else have any advice or ideas that may help?

I just read your story. I think it will be really hard for any doctor to want to write for the amount of meds you need to control your anxiety or pain. And you have bi-polar on top of it all. The only thing I can think of is going to a PAIN CLINIC and see if they will medicate you. But usually they do not like to give pain meds either, thet will do NERVE BLOCKS and NERVE BURNING (rhizotomy). I have been in a pain clinic since 1999, the first one in Boston put me onto methadone 3 times a day, it made me very depressed. I took myself off of it ! So now I have been having the nerve blocking treatments in my neck since 2001. Which last for about 1 year, b/c the nerves grow back in one year. I too, had a bad MVA in 1987, broke my face, lost teeth etc. I went through tortuous pain for several years, no MD would write for narcotics for me. I have never abused or been addicted to any drugs. I am a nurse, and need to function ! The only thing I can tell you is that you will never get rid of all the pain. The methadone is a bad drug b/c it gets into your bone marrow, and does damage. You could try LEGAL POT which is written under the name of MARINOL, but it costs about $ 700.00 per month worth. other than the above I really do not know what to advise you about. Good Luck ! It is an old wives tale that methadone gets into the bone marrow. It does have a long half-life, but that is a function of the way the drug metabolizes in the body...it does NOT get "in the bone marrow". It is just another stigma of the drug that has no basis in fact. To learn more and to prevent spreading misleading information please read the FDA methadone prescribing information.

My primary care doctor has asked me to find a new doctor for my opiate prescription. I have been on Ms Contin since 2002. I have called all the pain clinics that I could find in the phone book and Internet and they either do not take medicare or will not prescribe opiates long term. (They get you stabilized on a dose of opiate meds then send you back to your primary for them to prescribe the meds to you. I am already stable with what I am on). I currently live in the Twin Cities area MN. I have had 4 back surgeries with the last being a failed fusion. According to my MRI I have very severe and advance DDD and spinal stenosis and scoliosis due to the discs in my lumber spine have collapsed so much. I have also lost 3 inches in height. Maybe someone knows a doctor who does not belong to a large clinic and has his own practice or is smaller than these large rip off one that you see advertised everywhere. Thank You

When I couldn’t get treatment for chronic pain I asked my doctor if I should just go to a methadone clinic for pain relief and she told me no because then I will never get help again. In my state it’s ILLEGAL for providers to give you controlled substances if they know you’re a drug addict. That might be the issue you’re running into. I am so sorry this happened to you.

No pain clinic will TOUCH someone who goes to methadone clinics.
In fact, it’s ILLEGAL in some states to provide addicts with controlled substances.

Hello I’ve been in Treatment since 2013 and live in VA. I don’t know where you heard that no pain clinic will touch you or see you or treat you if you are a drug addict and been in a drug treatment centers bc I’ve turned down Blue Ridge Pain Clinics offer to be their patient bc I don’t want to get back in the drug seeking habit again. Because once they feel you have had enough of their help they will discharge you from their practice. I pay $420 a month at CCTC in Christiansburg VA. With no questions asked like a regular doctor does. But I have to follow very strict rules to keep my take. All drug treatment centers don’t allow any type of benzodiazepines to be taken while on methadone bc methadone is very deadly on its own then you combine another nerve depressive drug then you will go into a slower breathing and then death.

I just had 2 very close friends die from combining klonopin with methadone. All I’m wanting for you to get from this is do your homework before you give wrong information out. You have some good points and some bad ones and have a great day. If you ever want to talk about recovery from drugs hit me up bc I’m very well knowledgeable.

Hello I hear you loud and clear my friend about anxiety bc I’m bi-polar, dual personality, ADHD, ADD and have social anxiety and hate crowds and I’m a recovering drug addict with 9 years in recovery and taking Methadone like you are.

I hate to be a bearers of bad news but buddy no right and legal doctor will write you a script of benzodiazepines while you are on methadone. I’ve tried every doctor from VA to South Carolina and no legal Dr would write me a script.

First, you are putting too much burden on yourself by taking care of your mom and you having healthy issues yourself. I just don’t know how SSI and Disability is letting you take care of your mother legally with her being mental. Not saying you can’t take care of her but you need not to. Your family needs to step up and help with your mom knowing how bad you are. Stress will kill when you get way over whelmed and no way out. Instead of trying to get more meds try and get a 24 hour nurse for your mom and then see if that helps with your anxiety.

When I get overwhelmed I go to my happy place which is my bedroom and turn off the lights and turn on my fans and slow breath and think happy thoughts. It works about 95 percent of the time. If you quit the treatment centers and go to pain management I don’t think they will write you a script for benzodiazepines and methadone together legally bc they know that they are a deadly combination.
