Hi tonya,

You might be surprised to know that certain drugs are actually okay to take for up to 15 years after expiration, whereas others such as antibiotics can become toxic. My personal assumption is that two-month old Cyclobenzaprine should be perfectly fine to take. Given the option, I would still feel safe taking it within that time frame.

The article linked below, by Harvard University, should help shed some light on the topic of expired medication:

I hope this info helps!

Cyclobenzaprine is a muscle relaxant and it doesn't get dangerous once past the expiration date, but it can lose some effectiveness.

I doubt there would be a lot of chance just 2 months past the expiration date, but a lot of it depends on how it was stored. For instance, if you had it stored somewhere warm, dark and dry there will be less degradation than if you had it stored in your bathroom medicine cabinet where moisture can get to them and there can be temperature extremes.

Really, the best thing to do would be to see your doctor for a new prescription and just dispose of these, but I know not everyone's going to do that, especially taking finances into consideration.

Are you having muscle aches or sprains?

Thank you Verwon, yes I'm having the same issues with a muscle in my back as I was when I was first prescribed the medicine. I can go back and get a new prescription but don't want to pay the co-pay

Thank you David for a response, I keep all my medicine in a cupboard in my kitchen. So I think I am safe and can take one to ease this back pain again. I started the "Insanity workout" again and re injured myself ..I'm sticking to my elliptical machine

I have 2 prescriptions for cyclobenzaprine: 5/30/2014 and 5/31/2013. Been taking 2014 and I want to put it all in one bottle. Is the 2013 still effective?

I have some from 2012 and 4 years later, it still helped my intermittent and recurring neck/back pain from a car accident. Granted, the older medication is slower to act, it seemed to be quite helpful
