Expired Carisoprodol (soma)

Updated

I am in excruciating pain. I found an old script for Soma that expired in 1996. Can I take it without doing any harm?

You could although it may not work like it did when new

Yes, Eddy is correct, expired medications can be less effective than when they were fresh and new.

The NIH lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and dry mouth.

This is also not a pain reliever, it is a muscle relaxant, so it may not help you in the way you wish.

Are you on any other medications? Have you consulted your doctor?

Pharmacist are eager to hurt and not help. They have no idea what your medical condition is and don’t care. They are judgmental, especially if you are in pain and old. Maybe they should take an oath. “First Do No Harm.”. Humans need relief from pain.

Kay,

Over twenty years old I think I would toss them. See a Dr. for your pain. Risk and reward.

My pharmacy is great, they even remind me of refills and always give good advice. I've been going there over 30 years and a couple of times the owner brought me my meds as I was too ill to pick them up. Find a privately owned Rx, not a chain. Walgreens is the worst and I've had good luck at CVS.

To the OP - Yes you can take, it just won't be as potent.

6 months. Including the first fill, you will find it impossible to fill 6 refills
