Exhaustion And Weight Gain With Lexam And Lamictal ?

I've been taking Lamictal 125 bd for about 6 months and recently had added in Lexam 20mg, upped from 10mg which I was on for a month or so. Both are for Bipolar II. I am sole parent of an active nearly 3 year old, with no family support and not living in my country of origin. Over the last month I have noticed weight gain - from no weight gain on 10 mg Lexam and have been experiencing almost debilitating exhaustion - flatness, extreme fatigue, lethargy. I pick up around 4 pm! It's affecting my parenting, and my ability to enjoy life (I want to exercise more, and acheive more in the day, but am tired). I average about 7 hours sleep a night, but am coming out of a bad patch of betwen 5 and 7 due to my daughter waking early (LOL).

With these drugs, could the exhaustion/weight gain be side effects? Is there anything I can do, or take, to compensate (especially for weight gain)?

Lexam contains the active ingredient Escitalopram and Lamactal contains the active ingredient Lamotrigine.

That said, yes, they can both cause drowsiness, fatigue and weight gain.

These effects, however, should start to taper off as your body adjusts to the medication. My guess is that the reason they are so bad right now is because you are new to taking the Lexam and have recently upped the dosage.

If they do not ease up or it becomes a real problem, then you should speak to your doctor.
